Unfortunately, certain post op complications can't be foreseen or avoided when they are not necessarily related to your procedure. (Note: I've had surgery to my back and SI joint in the past, so do not consider these issues his fault.) That said, Dr. Wellborn immediately addressed the issue by referring me to a highly respected neurosurgeon as soon as he recognized there was an issue. He even called the guy ahead of time and greased the skids so I didn't have to wait the month to get squeezed into his schedule. Back to the normal expectations: I was able to ditch the walker within the first week and only used the cane if going long distances by week 2. I rode my bike around the block at day 6! And for a mile at 2 weeks!! It is still easier to ride my bike than walk for long distances but I suspect this may be due to my back. He did a phenomenal job on the wound closure, which was approximated perfectly and really looks beautiful. My hip is functioning quite nicely and the pain I had in the joint was gone when I woke from surgery. I had the expected post op pain but that was relatively short lived and I was able to stop the pain meds very quickly. Advice I wish I'd had...don't wait if you need this procedure. Likely the reason for some of my complications has to with my delays and the resultant weakened muscles in my core, back and legs. The surgery and recovery time weakens you even more. Do all you can before and after to get strong. You will need those muscles! Then, pick the best surgeon you can. For me, he was it. And he operates out of Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. I've been there now for two surgeries and can honestly rate them as one of the best hospitals I've ever been to!

Dr. Grant is not only exceptionally professional and skillful in his field but is also very knowledgeable in the areas of injury rehabilitation, alternative treatments (e.g., dry needling, frozen shoulder fluid therapy, etc.) and prevention outside of chiropractic medicine. After an aggressive and punishing series of initial appointments as well as following Dr. Grant's suggestions for stretching and exercise, I was finally able to be pain-free for the time in a half decade. I continue to see Dr. Grant as issues flare up and have never had a bad visit because he, along with the office staff, are excellent. I am happy to highly recommend Dr. Grant for anyone experiencing similar chronic issues from exercise or long sedentary periods.

I first went to see Dr. Guidi in 2009 for shoulder pain, I knew I did something bad to my shoulder…read more After almost 20 years of rock climbing, including going to the climbing gym multiple times a week, I completely tore my rotator cuff and separated my labrum in my shoulder. Dr. Guidi accurately diagnosed the problem on my first visit. He sent me to get an MRI with contrast to help determine the extent of the damage. From injury to first visit to MRI to surgery was maybe a month, and much of that was my being in denial and my busy work schedule. Dr. Guidi repaired both injuries in one long surgery. He recommended an aggressive physical therapy regime, which I appreciated. All of my office visits were highly professional and informative. Most of all, I appreciated that Dr. Guidi was working with me to get me back to triathlons and climbing. I did a triathlon 14 week post-surgery (that was not doctor approved) but I did it. At 4 months out, I started climbing again. At 9 months out, I was back to my full climbing strength. In 2012, I was a repeat customer for Dr. Guidi. This time for an elbow injury, also climbing induced. Dr. Guidi accurately diagnosed that I had a partially torn tendon in my elbow. I had the choice of months of rest followed by physical therapy or surgery to repair the elbow. Given that the pain was really bad, I opted for surgery. This was a quick surgery, not too much damage but enough to require surgery. Two days after surgery, my elbow felt much better than prior to surgery. One month of physical therapy and I was back to climbing again. Once again, I got back to full strength. I trust Dr. Guidi's judgment and appreciate his willingness to get you back to the sports that you love. I highly recommend him if you have a sports injury. I just recently did exactly that for a friend who moved here from Atlanta. My friend took a bad fall playing basketball - I'm told there were loud popping sounds in his ankle. After the ankle didn't heal, I recommended my friend visit Dr. Guidi. MRI showed two torn ligaments. I took my buddy in for surgery and got to see Dr. Guidi. That man works hard on surgery days. He did a great job fixing my buddy's ligaments. My buddy is not 100% yet but it's less than 8 weeks post-surgery. I trust and highly recommend Dr. Guidi

I was having pain under my knee cap because of this...the meniscus tear was small and not very noticeable to me. Dr. Guidi suggested Hyalgen injections which are natural synovial fluid that provides an increased cushion between the bones and it worked like a charm. The tear got worse so I decided to have arthroscopic surgery. Two and a half months post surgery I am pain free. I cannot say enough about Dr. Guidi and his staff. He has incredible bedside manner and you cannot find a more competent orthopedic surgeon. The group has a rehab facility across the hall from the office and they are great. If you are seeking the comfort of knowing that you are in good hands, I would highly recommend Dr. Guidi as your orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine physician!!
