As a speech pathologist myself, I knew my son's dysfluency was not developmental in nature and needed skilled intervention. After interviewing speech pathologists in three different states that specialize in dysfluency I chose Tim Mackessey, and could not have made a better decision. We travelled from Savannah for several visits over a period of months in combination with Skype calls and the home therapy he directed. My son was initially diagnosed with profound stuttering and by the time we were discharged he was within or above normal limits and his pre-school teacher said he was the best speaker in the class!! Now, 2 years later, he continues to be highly fluent and sound exactly like or better than his peers. Tim makes his therapy sessions the most positive experience for children and provides extensive support and education for parents. I brought my 3 year old to Mr. Tim when I noticed that he was stuttering with exaggerated head, eye and hand movements. No one in my family or his teachers seemed to notice so I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not. Mr. Tim used his diagnostic tools and definitely agreed with me that an intervention was needed. We made visits twice a week for 7 weeks, bought the games that he recommended and completed homework assignments as instructed. At the end of the treatment my son was speaking without bumps or movements. I am very happy with the result. A couple of months later when my son started at a new school, I noticed the stuttering begin to creep back into his speech and I quickly referred to the homework assignments and games and it faded away again. It is important to follow everything that Mr. Tim tells you to do. It does seem like a lot of work after you've worked all day, etc...but it makes all the difference if you want to control the stuttering. read more

I'm long overdue writing this review. Mr. Tim is an exceptional therapist and coach. My daughter had serious stuttering problems, and the Children's Hospital in the area planned a 6 month treatment program that our insurance denied. We were at a loss for treating our pre-schooler, and was referred by another therapist that said, "Tim is the best!" He was such a help, and after two months our child was significantly improved. He also helped her become a well-rounded listener. He taught us to do speech games at home, and she has improved so much we use the time to work on reading and Spanish now. She has NO SPEECH PROBLEMS at all. I'm so grateful for Mr. Tim. My daughter asks to see Mr. Tim because therapy was a "fun game time" for her. She is doing so much better now!!! Tim was recommended to us by another SLP who said, "If my child had a stutter, this is who I would go see". And she was absolutely right! Tim is great with my 3 1/2 year old, who loves to go see "Mr. Tim and play word games"! Tim not only works with the child, but works with parents to help us really understand how to help at home. Tim is very serious about his job as a speech therapist, but when working hands-on with my child, is silly and playful, which makes it so fun for him! When my 7 year old started to stutter I was told to go to a regular speech therapist. But as I researched my options, it became very clear to me that I needed an expert, someone who knew all about stuttering and more importantly how to treat it. Tim is that expert. He has given our child the tools and confidence to help catch and correct his own disfluencies. He has also taught us as parents how to play our part in keeping the therapy going at home so we can work as a team to eliminate the stuttering. Tim is a miracle worker. We took our son (on the spectrum) to see other speech therapists however we had no luck helping with the stuttering issue he had developed at age 10. Our son's speech was affecting his ability to interact with peers and participate in school. Tim's framework was incredibly engaging using a system of reward and games to reinforce the concepts he was trying to implement. I wouldn't say my son in cured, but is 95% there. He now has the tools to speak and think clearly in any situation. We cannot recommend Tim highly enough. read more

Absolutely sooo incredibly pleased with the treatment my son received from Tim. My son was a sophomore in college with a very prominent stutter. He was basically unable to make phone calls as well as having difficulty with school presentations. After his intensive therapy with Tim, he is able to control his stuttering incredibly well. I cannot say enough good things about Tim and the work he does with those who struggle with stuttering.
