Took a cab this morning to the airport. Charged 50.00. Paid for it in cash. I ordered the cab on the app. I received a charge on my card for 10.50. When I called to ask about it, I was TWICE hung up on when I mentioned I have a question about the charge. I also specifically asked for a van for a wheelchair and got a regular car. My ride was at 4:50 am and I can't imagine every van was busy with wheelchair passengers at that same time. Edit: checked my credit card statement. They've actually changed the 10.50 charge to 61 and change and there's a SEPARATE charge for 12 and some change. Keep in mind that I've already paid them 50. Disputing this with my bank and this company can kiss my ass and sue me. read more

Sure wish I'd checked reviews first, but it never occurred to me that a cab company that has been around this long could be so lousy. I had jury duty on a Monday morning at 8:30. Called Checker at 7 PM on Sunday and asked for a cab at 7:30 AM. Everything was confirmed and was told to expect a call when the driver was on the way. Went outside at 7:25 to wait. Started getting nervous at 7:32. Called at 7:35 and was told there were no cabs available. Un-f'ing believable. First and last time dealing with Checker. Booked a cab for 4am to go to the airport 12 hours in advance, indicating that I couldn't get voice calls as they went straight to voice mail (I am Canadian), and said to text me. Got confirmation email that the car was booked. At the designated time, no one showed up. I waited 10 minutes then tried to call them: got a voice mail. A few minutes later, I checked my own voice mail: they had just phoned me telling me that they had no driver available. Later that day, I got a receipt (!) by email, indicating that the trip had taken place. Fortunately, I had not paid in advance, nor used any app that they could charge. read more

I play favorites when it comes to cab companies. Atlanta's nowhere near the level of New York, where the streets are painted in yellow and black cabs awaiting your hail, so I like Checker enough to program into my cell - they've always come for pickup in a reasonable amount of time and have my previous pickup locations saved. If you'd like to charge it, be sure to request a car with a credit card machine, and they have vans for groups, too. Drivers vary just like any other city - but you could get an entertaining story from the cabbie, and there's also the really cool female driver with the afro. I don't understand why atlanta checker is still in business. Their drivers literally ignore pick ups even though they are in the area. The customer service reps never know how long the wait is or if a taxi is even going to come. This is the worst cab company i have ever seen. A few weeks ago, I needed to go to the airport really early on Saturday morning, so I called on Friday evening to schedule it. About 30 minutes later, I got a call from the driver to say he was there to pick me up. I said "no, it's tomorrow morning!" A week later, early Saturday morning, I got another call from a driver: "did you call for a taxi?". Yeah, last week. For 3 weeks in a row, they called me every Saturday morning to tell me my cab was ready. They took a break for a while... And then i got another call: "did you call for a taxi?". Yeah, in JULY! I appreciate Checker Cab. Why? Because they remember me. Actually, I'm not sure if that's good or bad and depending on the evening it can be pretty amusing. I called them Friday night and the operator asked "are you at Swinging Richard's?" Nope. Not this time. Actually, I don't remember being there recently, so I guess I'm extra glad they picked me up. Their telephone number is extremely easy to remember (four oh four, three five one, eleven, eleven) and they even take credit cards. Please note that they will not pick-up on street corners. If I could give this taxi company zero stars I would! It wasn't like I had one bad experience with Checker Cab, I had three in two days! The first occurred when my friend and I thought we could take a cab to the World of Coca Cola. We got into a taxi at our hotel and thought nothing of it. When we got to WoCC, we discovered that the cabbie hadn't even turned the meter on and he charged us $30 off the top of his head for driving two miles. It was a mistake not to complain right then and there. Being two quiet Asians, we were confused but paid and got out. The second incident happened when I took a cab from the Georgia Tech dorms to a hotel downtown. The cab driver had the meter on and it seemed fine, but then when we got to the hotel, he basically threw my bags out of the trunk! Rather than place them down nicely, he let them fall out before pulling them upright. No tip for that guy! The third incident occurred when I was trying to go from the hotel to Zoo Atlanta. This time, I checked that the meter was on before we departed. However, the cab driver obviously didn't know how to get to the Zoo! The Zoo is a major attraction in Atlanta so there was no reason for him to not know how to get there. Rather than pull over and figure it out, he kept driving around without a clue. Meanwhile, the meter kept running up. Finally, he stopped and asked me how to get there. I've never been in a cab where I had to give directions. When we finally got there, he turned the meter off and approximated the cost of the ride--$20. I didn't give tip because I was so mad. In closing, even though the MARTA system might not be the fastest method of transportation, I would recommend using alternate forms of transportation (i.e. renting a car) versus taking a cab. The cab service proved itself to be unreliable and dishonest. Grrrr! read more

DO NOT USE THIS CAB COMPANY. I just returned from the hospital with my mother, who was having a procedure. She has used their services in the past, and always with their senior discount, which is clearly stated on their website. The driver shows up, and before we can even close the doors, he loudly tells us that he is NOT going to honor the discount. Thinking this was some kind of joke, we tell him about using it previously (that same morning even), and he again says he won't honor it. Long story very short, he orders us out of his cab, then 'calls the police' (I am serious- this person is actually unleashing this craziness on a patient who JUST got out of the hospital) which was bogus and used as a threat, and refuses to give me his name until I find it under some papers on his dashboard. This utter insanity was made worse by the fact that this all took place in the freezing rain in front of the hospoital (that my mom had JUST been releaed from, did I mention that?) and was completely unnecesarry and the most unprodessional display I have EVER witnessed- and I've lived in 7 major cities, including L.A., NYC and Vegas! My mom is actually contemplating suing these people due to blatant age discrimination and physical and emotional stress from the situation. Do yourself a favor and STAY FAR AWAY. read more

I have a unique experience with Checker Cab Company to share. In the fall, one of Checker's cab drivers rear-ended me in a Midtown residential area, when I was braking for a pedestrian, illustrating that this particular driver is fond of riding other motorists' behinds. But, I digress. I am not writing this review to comment on one Checker employee's driving incompetence. I instead would like to detail the company's overall courtesy and pleasantry in dealing with the repairs to my poor little Civic. The cab driver indeed followed through in providing me accurate information (his actual name and the true address of the cab company). The driver, whose name I have forgotten, asked that I request to speak with a specific person at the office about fixing my car. So, I went to the front desk and asked for that person, whose name I also have forgotten. Anyway, it turned out that no one with that name worked at Checker Cab Company, much to my surprise. When I explained to the manager, Tracy, the incident with one of his drivers, he shouted something like, "I told so-and-so that if he hit one more car, he's OUTTA here!" I find it amusing that this driver, of some sort of Caribbean heritage, had been going around hitting other people. Tracy made arrangements with me to drop off my car at Checker Cab Company that Friday, and it was fixed by the next day. He also made sure that I received a complimentary cab ride home, when I dropped off my car. The repairs were quick and flawless. I believe that I have peered through a unique window into Checker Cab Company's customer service and was pleasantly surprised--although I would have preferred for the cab driver not to have smacked into my bumper in the first place. read more

Stay away. I booked Checker from my hotel to the airport. I was at the entrance five minutes early, and no Checker. Talking to the dispatcher, I learned that it wasn't his fault that I wasn't going to get a ride, because "the valet put someone in the cab." Perhaps parking valets exercise a mystical charm over taxi drivers that make them forget the name of the person they're supposed to pick up? The manager keeps saying give them another try but 6 bad experiences. Used to be better. On New Years left 4 girls stranded last night until 430 am. We called at 2am, they said it would be 20-30 mins. An hour later they said 20 mins. more. 2.5 hours later cab NEVER showed up. Had to make other arrangements. I am giving this review two stars because I have always gotten good service from Checker Cab via "Taxi Magic" in the past. First, I tried calling Checker repeatedly during the late afternoon, always getting a generic message that said that no one was available to take my call. I left a message, with no call back. I then used the online booking tool that allowed me to book a cab. I received a that said I ordered a cab at 7:37 pm. I was trying to get to a concert at the Lakewood Amphitheater, which started at 8pm. I received a text that my cab was NOT dispatched, and placed another "order," via Taxi Magic and was told via text that the cab was dispatched. After another 20 minutes, I decided to just drive. I just want to know: why are cab companies, especially affiliated with Taxi Magic, not available via phone, and why are they not jumping at a cab fare that would be around $35 with tip???? read more

Checker Cab is very reliable and really is the only cab company I call for pickups. They can get very busy during peak evening times and also on Monday mornings (when I used to require airport rides) so be sure to call with plenty of advanced warning during these times. You can also call and schedule a pickup - I used to call the night before. They have really good tracking when you call to inquire about your cab and the dispatcher will hunt down the driver and find out exactly where they are. Usually my cabs get here very quickly (or before I am actually ready), but sometimes I do have to call and check. When they arrive, they will have the automated system call you to tell you your taxi has arrived and ask if you want the taxi to wait - I like this. They state that all their cabs have credit card machines but I think it is worth telling the dispatcher that you plan to pay with credit card just in case one car has a broken machine or something. They were the only number I had saved in my phone, so I went out on a limb and called, not without some reservation after my last disastrous experience with them. The wait to speak with a dispatcher was about five minutes on a Friday afternoon, and they neglected to ask me when I wanted the pick-up and dispatched immediately, even though I wasn't quite ready. Despite that, I will give them the extra star back for their nifty automated confirmation system that can call or text you when your cab has arrived. read more

I really did not want to believe the other reviewers here. I mean they have setup a way to make a reservation online and seemed rather efficient. So two days out I booked a cab online for Saturday morning around 5:30AM. Afterward I realized I needed it for 4:30AM so I called the company. I finally reached someone who was more or less helpful and changed my time for me - we confirmed the reservation then. Flash forward to Saturday morning. About 30 minutes before they are supposed to be here I get a call from dispatch - the "official word" was they could not get a cab to me in that time - which is I am sure very busy at 4:00AM on a Saturday. I imagine they did not feel like sending a cab for a $10 fare - something they could have told me when making the reservation. I ended up having to call a separate company to come out and pick me up at the last minute. With professionalism like that - why even bother. read more

Cabs are cabs. You call, they answer, they drive you, they charge you. $2.50 for first 1/8 mile, 25¢ each additional 1/8 mile. It's $21.00 per hour if they wait for you, and $2.00 for each additional person. Doesn't sound bad, right? Ehh, even short distances can get expensive FAST. So I would avoid this service unless 1) you're in a rough area, or 2) need to get dropped off at the airport. read more

After reading through some of the bad reviews, I was a little apprehensive, but decided to give Checker Cab a chance anyway at the behest of a family member...and boy, am I glad that I did! I was in town for some business and these guys really came through for me. The dispatchers were very helpful and the drivers always arrived 5-10 minutes early, whether I had called in to book from the night before or even if it was last minute. Highly recommended. I havent taken a taxi in years. So I called one up, cause I needed to get to work and my car wouldnt start and MARTA was not an option cause I didnt have 2 hours to spare. Called up, they told me the driver would call when he got here. Well 25mins later some rude ass guy calls and tells me he is in Stone Mountain and will be here in 30 minutes. Now Im no expert on cabs, but I felt like the dispatcher should have told me if it was going to be an hour wait, so after this rude ass driver went on to tell me how he didnt want to drive all the way to East Point, uh excuse me sir....Im in Atlanta, and I not be here when he got here was a waste of his time. I reminded him that I was a customer waiting to be serviced and he better NOT pull his ass in my drive way. I called back, got the dispatcher again, and was told that they had dispatched the call over 30 minutes ago, and this rude ass was the only person to respond. I told him that I still needed a taxi, and I wasnt waiting another 30+ minutes for one to show up. He told me he would call me back. Finally about ten minutes later, a driver is out in the driveway. Rob said that he started his day late, and that he lives near me, so he picked up the call becuase he knew that a fare from where I live, all the way up to Buckhead would be a nice fair....it acutally came up to $42.00 He gave me his card, and cell number and told me that if I ever needed a taxi again to just call him directly. I dont plan on spending $42 to get to work again in the future. In additon, he explained that most drivers dont like to leave outside the city limits, I didnt really understand the logic of that, but told him that with all the hotels in Buckhead, it would be easy to get a fare back to the airport area, he said that was true, but in Buckhead, you normally get people wanting to go from one hotel to a shopping center or another hotel and that you spend the day making smaller trips and less money than if you p/u a fare at the airport and then have to take them to whereever. I guess that reasonable....so basically I got out the cab thinking, damn....if they dont make at least $40 a trip, they dont even think you are worth being picked up. I ordered online 8 hours before I needed a ride - After over 45 minutes past the time I was supposed to be picked up I called and was as polite as possible while being chastised that "they were busy" and "that I'd just have to wait". Whats the F-ing point of making a reservation then???!!!! I mean, don't take the reservation 8 hours before my pickup time. Don't take reservations at ALL. This wasn't new years eve or anything! Zero stars - this is why people are left with no alternatives in Atlanta. Taxi cabs on a whole in Atlanta are rude, late, expensive and completely uncompromising. This review is based on their customer service (disbatch staff) and the driver of Cab #0156. After a wild Friday night I decided to get a taxi home. I must've been digging in my pocket and accidentally left my new iPhone in the cab. Got home-slept it off and didn't realize I had lost it till the next day. Ahhhhh!!! I had my receipt from the cab fare and decided to try their "lost and found". I explained the situation to the dispatch operator, read her the info on receipt, and she gave me the cab driver's number. I called the friendly driver and he had the phone! He said he could swing by to drop it off after he was done with his current ride (in about an hour). I was elated! I use this service a lot and they never fail to disappoint me. The operators are rude, the drivers are rude, the drivers don't take down your destination correctly and take you round about town. One driver took me to the wrong place once after I gave him the address, I had to walk 15 mins to my actual destination. The drivers are always talking on the phone, sometimes yelling. Wish I was making this up. They are the closest to me so I don't really have a choice, I have to cope with this poor service. This place is THE WORST!!! I looked up cabs online trying to find one to take me about 2 miles on the weekends after work. The first time I called it rang and rang and noone EVER answered.. the time I finally did get through after 25 mins of holding the nice gentle Joe I believe his name was gave me the direct number to dispatch. I reserved a cab online and called just to verify. They told me that they cannot set a reservation and that I need to call when I got there.. whatever that means.. I waited for 20min when walking home takes me 20 min from Marta. Once he arrived I told the driver where I was exactly. He COULDNT FIND ME!!!! He turned the meter on b/c he said it took 6 minute for ME TO FIND HIM!!! I had to walk to the OTHER side of the station! The cab fare ended up costing $9.00 when it should have been max $5 (there went his tip!). I called Saturday evening and said I will need a cab in 15 min (I was @ 5 points Marta and needed to go East) the man said that was fine. The driver then called me and said he was outside, I said it would be another 5 min before I arrived... HE LEFT!!! I then called his cell he WOULDNT ANSWER!! So I called dispatch they said they would send another.. no one EVER called, I then called back and they said that they cannot make someone take someone to their destination- and the driver refused to pick me up! Needless to say it was freezing cold and I had tons of bags in my hands! I decided to not wait and walked home (in the rain!) no one ever called from the company! Some friends of ours ordered the cab for us so we could go back to their house and change for the Midtown festival, that we`d travelled from the UK to see. After a good 5 mins of telling us what a super duper company they were, we were finally put thru, and told the cab was being despatched take us to Hosea L Williams Dr. We waited for 1 and 1/2 hours in the most torrential rain we have ever seen, and despite promising to call when the cab was nearly with us, we never heard a word. And had to rely on our friends to come back out of the festival to take us themselves. Poor show chaps. read more

Well they did......over two days after my initial request during which time I had flown back to London and have been here nearly 2 days. Phoned to book a cab to take my wife and I to dinner at the weekend and after giving the dispatcher the time and addresses was told to call on Saturday to make sure that they have a driver, because if they're busy they might not have anyone available. When I queried whether or not I had a reservation she repeated that yes, I had a reservation, but to phone and make sure they had a driver in case they were busy. I'm sorry, but a booking to me means that I've booked a cab and driver for the time that I asked for - I therefore expect them to turn up. They might be ok if you need to be picked up right now, but I can't risk ruining a good night out because they're 'a bit busy'. Edit: Just phoned to cancel the booking and they didn't even ask for my name, just said 'it's cancelled'. I wouldn't be in a hurry to call these guys again. read more
