That includes a good selection of e-books and audio books. This branch also has puzzles! You can check out puzzles! I'm looking forward to that for this winter! The facility itself is clean and well-lit. There are private rooms that can be booked, and there is plenty of public space to work or read. There was a good amount of FREE parking, and they have someone keeping an eye on it, so that it's not misused by the crowds who are in the area for restaurants.

Parking is scarce but this is midtown Atlanta and we need to stop expecting parking everywhere we go anyway! Walk, bike or use MARTA to live the real ATL life. Mr. Ken and his toddler story times are useful for parents and kids alike. It's like being in studio for a children's tv program. They mostly happen Monday and Wednesday from 1030-11am but be sure to check online for ransoms date cancellations. As mentioned above parking is tight and becalmed even more impossible when it's toddle time.

There are a few parking spots around the back for those that travel from far away. There are weekly adult and kid activities that take place in their meeting room. The best part of this library is the weekly baby and toddler time with Mr. Ken! He reads stories, sings nursery rhymes, and plays musical toys with the babies. You can tell he really loves his job by the way he interacts with the kids. He even remember names. We are very lucky to have this program and Mr. Ken in the neighborhood. My daughter looks forward to going every week. I have seen the class grow almost double in size since last year.

After I hadn't received the *two* absentee ballots I requested to vote in today's (January 5, 2021)…read moreGeorgia Senate runoff, I decided to come to this polling location - the Ponce de Leon location of the City of Atlanta / Fulton County Library System - to early-vote in person. I had to complete and sign two affidavits to void my absentee ballots. I completed one of the affidavits in-person here. I visited on a Tuesday and entered the line at 12:16 PM. I was done and on my way at 12:36 PM, only 20 minutes later. Pretty good. The entire process was smooth and uneventful. Everyone knew what they were doing, whether they were a poll worker or a voter. All voters showed up masked and stood in line socially-distanced. A couple poll workers monitored and guided the line. Phones could be used outside the library, but not inside. The line moved at a brisk pace. I ran into my neighbor, the Honorable Stephanie Davis, standing in line behind me and we chatted for a bit. I was seen at the first desk (#1). The masked, soft-spoken lady, behind the wall of plexiglass, was very polite and kind to me. She was also efficient. I explained to her my situation. She had me complete and initial/sign two documents and then directed me to one of the now infamous Dominion voting machines. It had been a while since I voted in-person. I mostly vote by mail for the convenience. I was impressed with how "modern" the system was with activation card, stylus, and giant tablet. After I made my selections, I had to feed my hard-copy ballot with QR code into the scanning machine myself. On the ballot were: Senate: Kelly Loeffler (R) vs. Raphael Warnock (D) David Perdue (R) vs. Jon Ossoff (D) Georgia Public Service Commission: Lauren McDonald Jr. (R) vs. Daniel Blackman (D) This runoff is huge because it will determine control of the US Senate. I've never been prouder to be a Georgia voter than these last two elections: November 3, 2020 and January 5, 2021. This state is extremely important right now in terms of politics and the future the country. For early voting, the parking lot for this library was busy. I just parked on the street: Frederica St NE. It's a residential street and free to park on. There was a poll worker directing traffic in to and out of the lot for those who wanted to try and snag a really close spot. There was an absentee ballot drop box positioned outside the front door. Also, right outside the voter exit door, Georgia-based celebrity chef Hugh Acheson (Empire State South, by George) had two guys offering free tacos to voters as they left. The guys had a folding table, warm tacos in insulated containers on wheels, and a chalkboard sign with Hugh's name on it. At first, the thought did not occur to me that what they were doing was illegal. Instead, I thought it was a sly marketing move by Hugh. While perhaps not exactly right, I know they meant well and I thought what they were doing was cool. The library facility itself was nice. Clean, quiet, and up-to-date. It looks like it's had a facelift relatively recently, inside and out. The library had a small fleet of Dell workstations - that looked to be in good condition - too. Believe it or not, after becoming a Georgia resident in 2000, this was my first time inside an Atlanta public library. It took me over 20 years to get to this point. Note: As of today, my first absentee ballot is still missing. My second absentee ballot eventually did show up, 13 days after I requested it over the phone with Fulton County.

Looking for a free place to get some work done? This is an option. However, in true "you get what…read moreyou pay for" fashion, the Decatur Library is in need of an update. It's tidy, but not clean, and the carpet and furniture is ready for replacement. I'd be able to comfortably stop in here briefly to get something quick done, but would not be comfortable here for a full day. For context: I was seeking a place to do some work remotely while my daughter was in day camp in Decatur. This was one of the first places I tried, but I found better locations after this. I'm certain this is a great resource for the local community. There appears to be a community center next door where small children (maybe a day camp) were out playing in the "backyard" area; there was a small gathering of likely unhoused people on the front lawn of the library (likely a welcomed gathering spot for them during the day); inside the back entrance, there was a beautiful display of award-winning artwork and poetry from children across the county; there are clean restroom facilities; and there is ample parking in the rear of the building plus a rear entrance for easy access after parking.

I've been to most of the presidential libraries. This is less fancy than others. No boastful…read morewartime tales like Eisenhower. No scandal like Clinton's. No WWII like FDR. No bomb like Truman. But that's Jimmy's style. This is probably the most apolitical "makes everyone happy" museum there is. It really focuses on his wins, especially in the Middle East peace accords. Doesn't mention the Reagan scam to hold the Iranian hostages until after the election. Doesn't say anything about his unpopularity or how he handled it. Downplays the energy crisis (but doesn't avoid it altogether). Glosses over his loss of the White House. Talks a lot about his humanitarian feats, and that's okay, because that's the crux of the Jimmy Carter presidency and the majority of his life after. The museum also focuses more on the First Lady, Rosalyn, more than any other museum I have in memory. If you watch the 15 minute film in the beginning, it tells you everything you're going to see in the museum. Maybe that makes the mental work easier, but also a little boring. The Jimmy Carter library is the only one I've seen that offers so many activities to take throughout the museum, including word searches, crosswords, and quiz sheets. I really like this because it is Jimmy's spirit--engage children and others to interact with the world around them and think about how to make it better. I think I paid 12 dollars to enter, which is more than fair. The staff was super kind and accommodating. Worth a stop if you're nearby, but I don't know if I would pull off the interstate to see.

The exterior of the building is beautiful with a pool leading up to the entrance. The pool is blue and undamaged (take notes Trump). There is a walking path with a pond in the back along with a Japanese garden in the back. There are also statues and separate buildings for research and a peace retreat. Inside the Museum, there is the usual gift shop to get your token souvenirs. The museum is setup in chronological order starting with him growing up on a farm in Southern Georgia, his military service in WW2, his rise in local politics, his Presidency and then in my opinion his most impactful part, his post Presidency. The displays are very well done with artifacts through all phases of his life. They have his paperwork from his military service, gifts given to him while president from other heads of state, his Nobel Peace Prize, and lots of other stuff. During his presidency, they have a timeline wall with pop culture events that happened during that time. The mock Oval Offices are always my favorite part of these museums. I like to see what each president had in their offices. Jimmy was far from a great President, but he was a phenomenal man. The museum does a great job of capturing all of it.

Stone Mountain officially opened as a public park in 1965. However, people had been coming here…read morelong before it became an international phenomenon. It was a ceremonial and meeting place for Native Americans up until the 1800's when Aaron Cloud built a 165 foot wooden tower on top of the mountain, charging a small fee to climb it until it blew over a few years later. The railroad surrounding the mountain was once upon a time used to haul granite quarried from the mountain all over the world. It is said that nearly every state has at least one building (likely a government building) using stone from this mountain. In 1958, the State of Georgia purchased the mountain and the land surrounding it. Soon after, a sky lift, train, riverboat, memorial hall, museum, golf course, beach and even hotels opened on the grounds, making stone mountain a premier tourist destination. In the same year of its official open, two historic structures were brought to the park to serve as their permanent home.
