I have been a patient with Atlanta Neurology for many years and my dad was a long time patient before me. I can't say enough wonderful things about the care I have received from Brandy Hughes and Laurie Chastain. I never feel rushed in my appt with Brandy. she always has the time to listen to my concerns. I always leave knowing I am being well taken care of. Laurie, her nurse practitioner, too is amazing. There hasn't been one time I have called with a question or a rush to have a prescription refilled that she hasn't gotten back to me almost immediately. Brandy and Laurie make a wonderful team and I can't thank them enough for their exceptional care. My condition will necessitate ongoing lifetime care and I know I will be well taken care of. HORRIBLE - HORRIBLE experience with Dr. Gwynn. I couldn't even make it out of the office without crying.. and im not a cryer. He was completely dismissive and condescending, and clearly does not have basic understanding of migraines medically and either doesn't know or doesn't care about how debilitating they are. I've struggled with chronic severe migraines for 5 years and have spent 38k out of pocket going to every specialist I can find and doing every treatment I could to cure myself so I can work again and get my life back. I cant do anything to even live a normal life much less work. My migraines last up to 6 weeks non stop each time, I am unable to drive, or work or go outside or do anything during this time from extreme light sensitivity, blurred vision, and cant think or speak clearly during this time. I only had a brief chat to go over my case with a nurse and then dr Gwynn came in, all he did is prescribe a medication.. no questions or concerns or interest at all in anything about my symptoms or case. He said im 23 yrs and im fine and migraine's are not a disability. Actually im 45 years old and yes they are a disability according to the federal government. Im sorry.. are you saying I look good so I must be good? How should I "look" to be suffering with migraine? This is extremely condescending and demeaning. Did he graduate from neurology or cosmetology school because since when do you determine someones neurological condition and ability based on their outward appearance. I wish I read the other reviews before I went, but at the time I scheduled I was desperate in a migraine and not able to read so I made the mistake of going. I was also lied to at the front desk when making the apt because after going to 10 other specialists and finally realizing I have to have financial help, I specifically made the appointment to find a dr who would be willing to help with my disability paperwork.. not immediately, but at some point as my treatment provider. I was assured in the apt call that he would be willing to do that.. she said there was another dr there that would not, but this one would. I confirmed and was assured multiple times. I was specifically looking for a dr who would work with me on this until I'm cured and can work. Total lie, total fraud to add further insult to injury in all of this. I hope someone sees this, and is able to avoid a traumatic experience. I was self pay so I had to pay $400 out of my pocket when I was lied to just to get me in. read more

I called the place 4 times and left multiple messages. They finally called me while I was in a meeting at work. I asked the person if we could speak again in an hour as I couldn't interrupt the meeting. Of course, no one called back. Of course, when I tried calling back, it was only voicemail. I waited a few days before this review thinking that I would get a call back -- perhaps they got busy that day. Well, no call. Horrible customer (non) service. read more

I have used Atlanta Neurology for almost 20 years seeing Brandy Hughes. She has literally saved my life in her guidance and resources. She is very patient but probing in her questions to make sure that she and I are on the same page. I know everyone is anxious seeing a neurologist but with her experience and guidance and my confidence in her has really help save my life. My daughter was a established patient of Brandy Hughes saw her for an intractable migraine. I went along as my daughter was too incapacitated to drive. We requested a sick visit on a Sunday thru the portal, and were accommodated for Monday afternoon. Then we get a message that Brandy was sick and we couldn't be seen after all. We requested a visit with any other provider from the office. We received another message that Brandy could see us after all at noon on Monday. OK! We arrived and were called back to Brandy's office quickly. She did not appear to be, nor did she act sick, or have a mask on...She proceeded to review my daughters info and said that we really needed to go to the infusion center and get a migraine cocktail, but that was impossible because of the saline shortage. Why is there a saline shortage? Brandy had no idea. (A quick search when I got home revealed that a mfg plant in NW N. Carolina was damaged in Hurricane Helene, and that is causing a shortage) . So in lieu of the migraine cocktail, she proceeded to prescribe whatever medicines we asked about. And in a confusing manner. All of them were from ads we'd seen and we were looking for guidance...guidance is not what we got. She was very confusing to talk to and did not make it clear which were for pain relief and which were for prevention, despite me trying several times to pin her down on what was what. In the end we felt she was trying to get rid of us and all she ended up doing was prescribing the high dollar fancy migraine meds that take several days if not weeks to get approved by insurance. (We did get samples of one of these meds). At one point she asked had my daughter had a CT scan. She had had one. She then asked if it was normal... I said are you not in the Emory network, you should be able to see all of that thru the portal...she said oh, yes I can.... Then she mentioned a drug that she said did not work with high blood pressure... she looked in the portal and said , yes , her blood pressure is a little high, and prescribed the med w/o any explanation or without taking my daughters blood pressure right then and there. Feeling very not seen, heard, or confident in the medical advice we were given, we scheduled a follow up with a different person in her office, but after thinking about it for 2 days, I canceled that appt. We're already in with another provider, different neuro group, and that experience was one of complete competence and solid customer service. Just had a medical procedure done & needed further treatment. Due to having a pacemaker I need to schedule an EKG etc & very complicated time wise. I've suffered from chronic migraines for 10 years and left two neurology practices because the doctors told me that they had tried everything and there was nothing else they could do for me besides prescribe triptans for when I got a migraine. They gave up on trying to prevent my migraines at all because I was not responding to treatment. I was referred to Brandy Hughes by a friend but wasn't very hopeful after two doctors had told me they'd done everything they could do. It took Brandy and I a few years to find something that actually worked to prevent my migraines but she never gave up or labeled me "hard to treat." Every time I arrived at an appointment with little hope that anything would ever change, she always had something new to try and never gave up on me. Her assistant, Laurie is awesome, helpful and responsive too. I highly recommend this practice. read more

I've tried with this office. I've been very disappointed in their patient care. I've had appointments scheduled that apparently were never made and haven't even received an apology. When I asked for one I was told I was arguing. They prescribe brand new medicines typically not covered by insurance, they may be receiving payments for doing so by new company pharmaceutical reps. While this is legal and not considered unethical it imposes cost. Whether they are doing this or not, the brand name only Rx can drive up client costs and time appealing insurance, though they offer a $100 annual payment for the office to do this on your behalf. I will say I'm not perfect, I'm a human in pain trying to receive treatment, and I don't feel cared for with this office. I love this practice! Brandy Hughes is amazing! She not only listens to my concerns thoroughly but takes time to ask about me, my family and other things going on which is actually way more compassionate than any other neurologist I have ever seen! I have suffered with migraines for 7 years with no resolution and I was terrified to try Botox. Brandy was the first person to actually take time to explain the procedure in detail and finally I tried it and it was a game changer. During my botox, she always talks to me and makes me feel way more comfortable and always asks if I'm doing alright. At the end of every appointment she never hesitates to ask me if I have any questions and lets me know if I need anything to call. I also have to give recognition to Lori. She is so hard working and amazing as well. She always makes sure that my appointments are handled, my insurance and pharmacy has my Botox sent over on time. Recently I had an issue with Accredo not getting my medication released, Lori really went above and beyond going back and forth contacting them and me during everything to make sure I could get my Botox before my benefits ran out before the end of the year. She didn't have to do this, she has so many other patients, but it just shows the dedication she has towards all of her patients. I travel approximately 3 to 4 times per year to see Brandy for migraines, with pretty severe vestibular issues. She has successfully teamed with other physicians in my treatment plan over the years which has become somewhat more complicated as I age. The opposite of what I expected. Another physician recently referred to me as a "migraine " brain...it sounded like the Middle Ages. While my treatment is varied, I do not use Botox because of vanity (think of the animated film "Up") with me as the main character. What this means to Brandy and Laurie is a significant investment of time and effort working through options. While Brandy may be determining meds, medication interactions and best approach...Laurie will be the one pursuing pre authorization with a very strict insurance company. Brandy has always done this without a drop of resentment. I have an overlying medical condition that other doctors have turned me away for..but of all my current doctors Brandy and Atlanta Neurology has been one of the most consistent and kindest. Neurology offices see many difficult situations...but I believe all office staff are just tired. If you need a quick referral..then try and have your family physician make the appointment or the referring doc. All specialists are becoming more and more difficult to see. Migraines bite..but there are quite a few options for treatment. I feel unbelievable lucky that I was referred to Brandy well over 10 years ago. read more

I've been seeing Nurse Practitioner Brandy Hughes for at least 4 years for management of my migraines. Often times, health care providers seem to shrug off the suffering that comes with migraines. I met with Dr Keith Sanders the other day. I had been referred to the practice by another doctor for "possible MS", which is frightening, and I have been going through hell, and just needed a doctor that would take the time to talk. Well, he gave me maybe 10 minutes of his time, "examined" me by basically looking at me, and then told me he couldn't help me. I had made a list of my recent symptoms since I have been having memory issues, and I wanted to talk about it. He took my list and tossed it on the desk without review. Any symptom I brought up, I was either ignored or cut off. Then they charged me $266 outside of my insurance for that 10 minutes! I left feeling that it was a waste of time and money, and I still have no answers. read more

After two days of leaving messages trying to make an appointment. I got a call back and was told that their earliest appt. was six weeks away. And this was after she insisted that we discuss my insurance coverage for over ten minutes. The woman was quite rude to boot, you know who you are Ext.647. I explained that this was an E.R. referral and that they said that I needed to see someone in 5-7 days. Didn't even register, I guess the folks that make appointments don't know what the Hippocratic oath is. read more

I'm not sure why this practice is getting so many negative reviews. I met with Ms. Hughes for a consultation this week regarding migraines and felt that I had a good experience. Ms Hughes was professional and accommodating and outlined different available treatment plans and how they fit with my insurance coverage. I have been going to Atlanta Neurology for years now, and have literally never had a complaint. I have seen Brandy the entire time and absolutely love her and her saint of an assistant Lori. I've also seen Dr. Gwynn in a pinch and he made me feel like I've been his patient as long as Brandy. I *HATE* going to the doctor and needles and they make it so simple, no production and actually listen to your questions rather than a quick appt with no explanation. Brandy was the first person to find a routine to eliminate my daily migraines and truly changed my life. Anyone saying the medical botox is too expensive, Brandy and the rest of the team helps you to guide through the Botox reimbursement program - I have never paid a penny for the treatment that has literally given my life back to me. Going into this new year, my insurance decided to stop paying for my medication, and Brandy and Lori made it so easy for me to switch to a new one before a trip overseas. I may have written a review about my terrible experience with Dr. Johnson. Since that time, it appears that their billing department is just as bad and nonresponsive. I never received a bill for their services 6/28/18, however, my insurance company issued and Explanation of Benefits and sent them a check on 7/23/18. Northside apparently lost the check and have yet to find it or submit another statement to Northside for reimbursement. I paid a part of the bill on my charge card and are due a reimbursement. After several telephone calls, leaving messages, and writing a letter, I still haven't received anything back from their office. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND INEFFICIENT. I found the staff unfriendly and I wasn't happy with the Doctor I had. I feel like there was not enough time spent. I canceled my last appointment, switched to a new doctor and had my medical records transferred. Now I receive a call that my appointment was not canceled. I received this at 4pm on a Friday and when I call back, I speak to an unfriendly answering service that can't take a message. Their website says they are open from 9-5 Monday-Friday. They need to either let you cancel an appointment when they call to remind you of an appointment or call you with appointment reminders during actual business yours. read more

Dr Gwynn is an AMAZING doctor. I've been seeing him for almost 10 years for debilitating migraines. All of his experience and knowledge made all the difference and I now only have a few a year. I can't thank him enough for making such a difference in my quality of life. I see others felt it was hard to get in to see anyone. This is because he is one of THE BEST in Atlanta. I saw Brandy Hughes recently for evaluation of my horrible migraines which I have had for decades. She listened to me and provided me with great insights and strategies to help combat the migraines. She is a nurse practitioner and has her doctorate degree which very few NPs have. I think she's great and I'd recommend her to anyone. Also, I didn't have to wait very long in the waiting room which is a huge plus. read more

I recently experienced numbness in my leg which my other physician could not explain. Initially, my other physician wanted to conduct a nerve study to find the cause of this problem. After doing some research, I wondered whether this was the best first step for me, and I was then referred to Atlanta Neurology. Immediately, I was struck by the office staff, who was professional and courteous. They reached out multiple times and promptly scheduled an appointment, working with my busy schedule to do so. My appointment with Brandy Hughes lasted one hour. I let her know that I sent over previous blood work and upon review she noticed that my B12 levels were extremely low. This was something a previous doctor had missed. She began a treatment plan which was very effective, and I began feeling better shortly afterwards. Additionally, she used my concerns as well as family history to inform further testing. My mother died of a brain aneurysm at a relatively young age, and my physician ordered an MRI to ensure my health as well. When there was a potential issue, Brandy was supportive and communicated via e-mail quickly, as well as by phone. Thankfully the concern with my MRI turned out to be nothing, but the attention and care I received during this time was invaluable. I was surprised to read the more negative comments posted, as my experience has been extremely positive. My ongoing treatment has been collaborative and personal, and I highly recommend Brandy Hughes, DNP, FNP-C. One of the complaints I often hear about specialists' offices is that they are impersonal, speak only of their narrow expertise, and are not willing to work with patients to determine the best treatment plan. Ms. Hughes has proved to be an exemplary clinician: from looking over prior tests to inquiring about my medical history to inform assessment. She began at the simplest level of analysis, my blood work, before ordering expensive tests to determine the cause of my symptoms. I hope that others find their experience with her as beneficial and personal as I have. I was seen by Brandy Hughes and she was nice enough on my first visit. Started having a cycle of migraines lasting for 3 weeks. First off no one ever answers your call you must leave a message. I left a message with Lori Chastain on a Friday no call back. I left a message on Monday no call back I left a message on Tuesday no call back. I finally had to contact the Dr. on call at 5am Wednesday morning and let him know that I had been calling since Friday. He assured me someone would contact me back. It's now 12:00 on Wednesday still no call. I called back and left another message also with each message I left, I stated that I had called the day before with no call back. This is now day 4. Lori Chastain finally calls me back and I told her I had to find a new neurologist because I had been calling since Friday with no return phone call. She was exceptionally rude and unprofessional; she was literally ARGUING back and forth with me telling me that I had not called and then tells me well I'm glad you got another doctor. So why would a person with daily migraines LIE about calling their doctor? Why would I have the on call doctor paged at 5am on day 4 of not receiving a call back. Absolutely unprofessional and rude. read more

Dealing with this practice, and Brandy Hughes in particular, have been a complete and total nightmare. I cannot imagine a worse place for a migraineur to seek any sort of guidance, get support, or even receive proper treatment. This practice's methods seem to encourage suffering and I have been put on treatments that have caused significant risks to my health without proper monitoring or consideration. This place seems to function mainly as a Botox mill and is run by the coldest, laziest, most frustrating people I have ever encountered in the medical profession. My personal experience with this practice has been horrific, after suffering through a period of significantly increased migraines, I was put on a calcium channel blocker. My last visit, I had a migraine that had lasted a week, Ms. Hughes prescribed for me to take steroids and another medication which I had told her previously caused uncomfortable side effects and did nothing for my headaches. Meanwhile, she pushed for me to consider botox treatments. This migraine continued for another three weeks, before this point, in the past, with my previous (Pediatric or Out-of-State) who were fantastic, top flight neurologists, I would have been hospitalised. I developed symptoms atypical of my usual pattern, and after playing phone tag with her useless assistant and sending multiple ignored emails to Ms. Hughes, begging to be seen for evaluation, in an ideal world by an ACTUAL doctor. Instead, after four days of leaving messages, I was accused by the assistant of improperly taking my steroid medication (which is ridiculous, I'm not new to the migraine game, also, I can read and follow directions) and that I should increase the calcium channel blocker, which even on a low dose was causing me to become dizzy and feel faint (as I have low blood pressure anyway,) without monitoring or examination. I was told these medications need time to work, but as a person suffering with a severe migraine for a month...after being on these medications for a month...with no relief, I ended up seeking treatment in an urgent care center where they encouraged I follow up with Ms. Hughes, and had temporary relief from their treatment for vomiting. When I tried to follow up with the practice, they announced they had gotten approval to go ahead with the Botox treatment, and I would be to have them done at my follow up appointment. In the meantime, they referred me to a pain clinic. When I arrived at the pain clinic they told me that I had been referred to have nerve block injections, which was news to me. Referring me to the pain clinic was the only worthwhile thing that has come out of my dealings with Atlanta Neurology, as the anesthesiologist was actually sympathetic and quite frankly, confused, by how little consideration had been given to my case. These injections made the Botox treatment slightly redundant, and even when the anesthesiologist called Brandy for her opinion of the necessity receiving both treatments, Ms. Hughes told the doctor to "Do whatever she wanted with me" and that I should still go in for the Botox treatment later in the week. Fast forward to my follow up appointment... As for the Botox, no one informed me of the cost, how to prepare for the procedure, or what to expect from the treatment. When I arrived to the appointment, after being told that the appointment would be my normal co-pay, the person at the front desk expected me to pay $1400 on the spot. After being surprised by this bit of news, that I had no time to prepare for, I inquired about payment plans, the lady told me I could pay a reasonable sum for five months, I agreed out of desperation, to the sum, when she suddenly that option went off the table and she insisted I pay $1000 on the spot. I didn't care so much about the Botox, and instead was concerned about the medications they had put me on and the fact the migraine had not yet broken, I asked to just see Ms. Hughes, as I had made an appointment anyway. They told me I would be unable to see Ms. Hughes without paying the $1000 for the Botox they never performed after waiting 45 minutes even though I had an appointment. I made an appointment with my PCP who was horrified by the fact I was put on blood pressure medication, that made my already low blood pressure dangerously low, and the fact that they increased that medication without any monitoring. He was able to refer me to another, actual neurologist whom I am currently waiting to see. In my 17 years as a migraineur (with admittedly rare and difficult to treat migraines) I have never been treated so poorly, with so little consideration to the debilitating effects of these episodes that effect my ability to work and function in daily life. From my experience, Ms. Hughes is a sadist and a quack and her assistant Crystal is useless. I hope no one has to suffer the way I have. AVOID THIS PRACTICE LIKE THE PLAGUE. read more

Most unprofessional, and unfriendly office staff I have ever encountered. I am used to waiting days before called back, and could overlook the several times they had to move appointments, and the pharmacy not receiving a call back for refills until I called, but when a recent accidental on my part insurance issue came up and I then had their staff lie to me about the amount I owed, was assured that someone would call and didn't, and outright lied to about office procedures, and then hung up on, I decided I had had enough. I have been a long time patient and had an upstanding account, and by no means should anyone ever have to endure office staff treating anyone with so much disrespect. No matter how good the providers are, their office staff are horrendous and vile. read more

I have had migraines for almost 8 years and have been to several neurologists in town. I had almost resigned to the fact that nothing would work until I started going to Atlanta Neurology and working with Brandy Hughes. She has really renewed my hope in finding a solution for my migraines and I feel like we have made so much more progress than I have had with any other doctor in the past. Whenever I have appointments, I don't just feel like a number or that she is rushing me through to get to the next patient. She takes her time with me and makes sure that she answers all of my questions and is very thorough explaining any medications and/or dosage instructions. This review cannot rate the effectiveness of the physicians or other professionals that practice at Atlanta Neurology PC. It is a review of how difficult the Building was to find. Certainly not new patient friendly. The woman I spoke at length with about my mother's problems never mentioned how to find the building. My elderly mother's doctor made the referral of this group since Mom was having significant memory loss and cognitive issues. I called to make an appointment 2 months ago. Today, I drove my mother to the doctor's office, using my GPS for directions. No problem. I found the parking garage, saw signs that pointed in the direction of Building F and slowly helped my mother down the inclined driveway to an entrance of what I thought was the correct building. It was an assisted living facility. I asked 2 employees how to get to Building F. Neither had any idea where it was. I realize now that this facility was adjacent to Building F! By this time we are 20 minutes late for the appointment. I help Mom back up the incline and call the office. Just after the automated greeting I was directed to press 8 if I was a patient with a scheduled appointment and could not find the building. The woman who answered told me to walk straight ahead and turn left into the building. We were still not sure if we were walking toward the building and stopped to look at a map. A woman came toward us and asked if we needed help. When I told her we could not find Building F, she said it was very hard to find. She recommended that I go get my car because it was a long walk. She offered to wait with my mom. This kind woman directed us to go down a level and we would see the sign for Building F. We were asked if we going to the neurologist. She had the same problm when she made an appointment. She warned that she was told she would have to reschedule because she was late. By the time I got mom into the office, we were almost 45 minutes late. Mom went up to the desk, gave her name and appointment time. The receptionist made a call to say the 2:00 appointment was here. After hanging up, she informed us that because we were so late, we'd have to reschedule the appointment. Nothing was available for another month. I was livid! I had called to say we couldn't find the building, pressed 8 as directed by the prompt for patients unable to find the building, and there was only one other patient in the waiting room. I asked if they might squeeze mom in, and we'd wait. Without even looking, the receptionist replied with a firm no. I did speak rudely to the receptionist, and went back to apologize to her, but told her to cancel the appointment for February, we would not come back. What a poor impression I have of Atlanta Neurology! I suggest looking for another doctor whose office is easier to find. read more
