Review for Dr. Newsome and Atlantic Foot & Ankle Specialists In May, while I was a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital, I found myself in need of having a couple of toes amputated. It was a frightening and emotional experience, but Dr. Newsome's exceptional care made all the difference. He treated me as a whole person, not just a foot, and that compassion made this journey much easier to get through. Dr. Newsome is incredibly communicative and takes the time to explain everything -- what's happening, why, and how to stay healthy moving forward. His professionalism and empathy truly stand out. I also want to recognize Sharon, the nurse in the office, who is kind, caring, and always greets you with a warm smile. She makes every visit comfortable and reassuring, and her gentle touch when changing dressings really puts you at ease. I can't recommend Dr. Newsome and Atlantic Foot & Ankle Specialists enough. I saw Todd Newsome for mild foot pain on 9/4, followed by a second visit on 9/12. He taped my foot and told me my pain was likely from soft tissue injury or damage, though no formal diagnosis was provided. At the follow-up visit, he recommended a cortisone injection. He did not explain any potential risks or side effects, nor did he conduct any imaging (e.g., ultrasound) to try to provide any more information. There was no mention of serious possible complications like tendon or nerve damage, tissue necrosis, etc. Trusting his judgment, I agreed to the injection. I definitely would not have consented had I been properly informed since the potential risks strongly outweighed my minor pain, level 2. Within a week, despite rest and icing, my pain significantly worsened, more than at any point before treatment. I contacted the office and received a call back from Todd Newsome on 9/19 after office hours. During our conversation, I mentioned that I had felt something "pop" during the injection and asked whether a tendon or bone might have been affected. His response was unprofessional and hostile, he accused me of lying and "trying to turn this around on him," and shouting that I had come in with "extreme chronic pain" which was clearly not true. My attached medical record shows this. At no point during this call did he show any concern regarding the outcome of his treatment or ask any follow-up questions about what symptoms I was experiencing to rule out infection or provide help. When I pointed out that I never reported having extreme chronic pain and that his reaction was very defensive, he told me to seek care elsewhere. I have since seen another provider at Ortho Pooler, who was far more thorough. They confirmed that a cortisone shot was not appropriate treatment for my level of pain and should be reserved for severe cases of pain levels 8 or higher. The experience here has left me in worse condition than before seeking treatment and raises serious concerns about the level of professionalism and patient care provided by Dr. Todd Newsome. read more

I wouldn't recommend anyone going to this office/doctor/business. They circle around what is needed and try to sell you on products that are needed, but have to come out of pocket as oppose to what insurance would cover. I recommend going to another foot doctor. read more

I Suffered a really bad ankle sprain in Historic Savannah late on a Sunday Evening. I was able to see Dr. Robitaille first thing Monday Morning in an emergency. The treatment that day and the follow up visits were out of this world and above and beyond the call of duty. To this day my family Dr. and my Physiotherapist can't believe how well it's healed and how strong my ankle is today. Dr. Robitaille is very thorough and takes time with each patient. However, her staff falls short. Over a month had passed after my visit and my insurance company had not received a claim from the office visit. I called Dr. Robitaille's office and left a message inquiring about this. Never received a call back. Called again a week later and spoke with one of the staff. She informed me that they had a year in which to submit insurance claims but mine had recently been submitted. A few weeks later I received a bill for the remaining balance and mailed the payment. Three weeks went by and my check had not cleared my bank. I called and spoke to a woman in the billing department to see if my payment had been received. She checked within the office and told me yes, my payment had been received but not deposited. Two days later I get a second bill stating that I am 30 days past due on my payment. How can I be past due when my check is in the office? read more

The entire experience from my first phone call to the moment I walked out the door was beyond positive. All of the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and seemed to be happy to be there to help, which I feel stems all from the top. Dr. Newsom and his PA were exceptionally knowledgeable and concerned regarding the pain that I had been experiencing. They took excellent care in diagnosing and explaining what was going on and suggested several options as treatment. I can't say enough great things about, him, his staff and this practice. I have a Morton's Neuroma on my right foot, which was treated by a different Podiatrist. My Neuroma was treated by a Corticosteroid injection, but the relief was short lived by lasting only 1 to 2 months. To compound the situation, I developed a Plantar fasciitis on my left foot and decided to make an appointment with Dr. Robotallie. The staff at Atlantic Foot & Ankle were courteous and professional. Dr. Robotallie's treatment plan included ESWT or electrical shock therapy, orthotics, and a brace. Although skeptical of the ESWT treatment, it is without a doubt a treatment that works. After my first session, the left foot heel pain went from a nine on the pain scale to a two. The Morton's Neuroma was still painful when exiting the bed in the morning, but I no longer had numbness of two toes. Dr. Robotallie explained that she does not recommend the previous injections because the relief is temporary, and the side effects of multiple injections can cause weakening of muscles and ligaments in the area of the injection. I plan to continue the ESWT treatment in addition to custom orthotics. The reduction of pain has created a customer that is One Hundred Percent satisfied at this point. After experiencing foot swelling on the inside of both feet, I went to see Dr. Clauther and was greeted by his physician assistant who asked about my problem and proceeded to do a ultrasound on my right foot only. He then left the room and Dr. Clauther came in and told me the ultrasound showed a ruptured posterior tibial tendon. He said he wanted to put me in a cast for 8 weeks however since I had to drive home he would put me in a cam boot instead. Since his diagnosis was major, I decided to seek a second opinion from a podiatrist in Savannah who has been in practice over 30 years. He performed the same physical tests that Dr. Clauther did plus some and just did not feel I had a rupture. He ordered an MRI and sure enough it came back negative. Though both the physician assistant and Dr. Clauther were pleasant enough, something told me there was a lack of experience in the manner in which they communicated and diagnosed my problem. I even asked again and was told by the physician assistant that it was a definite rupture. My advice is be leery of this practice unless you have a simple foot issue. read more
