What…read morestarted as a $579 quote turned into a $1,200+ disaster that left my belongings broken, my apartment half-empty, and my storage unit a dangerous mess. 1. Property Damage & Negligence The most devastating part of this move was the complete disregard for my electronics. I provided professional TV boxes with foam corners; instead, they shoved my TVs into two-piece boxes with the screens exposed. Now, both TVs are ruined. One screen is visibly shattered, and neither unit will even power on. They took "professional" equipment and treated it like trash. 2. Price Gouging & Bait-and-Switch This company practices predatory pricing. I was quoted $579. Once they had my items on their truck overnight, the owner demanded $1,260. I felt completely extorted. He offered a measly 10% "discount" when I complained, but the final price was still double the estimate for a job that wasn't even finished. 3. Chronic Unprofessionalism The movers arrived 1.5 hours late and spent the first 30 minutes on the phone with their boss. Despite having a reserved freight elevator and a storage unit only 4 miles away, they moved at a snail's pace. They went "radio silent" for over an hour while I waited for them at the storage facility, later claiming their phones "died." 4. Incomplete Work & Reckless Packing * Abandoned Items: They left numerous boxed-up items sitting right by my apartment door, forcing me to deal with the move myself after paying them over $1,100. * Storage Disaster: They packed my unit so poorly that I can only open the door six inches before items begin falling out. Sentimental items were crushed and broken because they lacked basic stacking skills. 5. Zero Accountability When I sent the owner photos of the damage, he spent 30 minutes on the phone defending his "professionalism" rather than offering a refund for the damaged TVs or the unfinished work. To do so though I had to move everything out of a 1000 sqft, 4 car garage for the better part of 5 to 6 days. I was actually very lucky that the Shark Coating company has set up an arrangement with go minis of Jacksonville to provide storage units for a week or a month. The process was very simple. I called the phone number and talked to the owner who gave me all the rundown and cost to have a 20' x 8 x 8 unit dropped off at my house in Ormond Beach. Because of the extra distance from Jacksonville there was some extra charge in the round-trip transportation, but this was still cheaper than a Large chain company (P@#$) that is just down the road from me. I even asked how much time prior to the "need date" they require a call and he said he could have it to me within a week of me calling. I didn't want to push it too much so I set everything up two months in advance. The day arrived for the delivery of the storage unit and because of my OCD, I had staked and put out caution tape as to the exact location that I wanted the unit placed on my driveway. I even sent pictures to the owner, who also forward them to the driver. The driver contacted me on the way to my house and gave me a time range that he was going to be there with a 10 minute range and he hit it on the mark. Although I was not at my home on the day of the delivery I could watch everything from my security cameras and saw a driver who took great care not only in the delivery of this large storage unit in the exact position that I requested, but took care not to damage my driveway. The unit is clean and fresh. No funky or smoke odors as I was going to be putting some of my wife's clothing racks in as well. I would say I wish they had a ramp or offered one to be added. Luckily I have a small ramp that worked fine. At the end the pick up was just as simple and again I was back at work so watched on the cameras. Overall a great experience.
