The management is unresponsive to customer emails of complaint. I rent an outside unit to store my Boat and Trailer. The area is terribly eroded and I have been complaining they should repair.... The area needs some investment in grading and mitigating the effects of rain water so it drains into the retention pond near by and stops the erosion.... There are huge potholes which mean huge puddles when it rains. I do not recommend this location. I will be looking for another storage for my Boat and Trailer. read more

This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a storage unit. Upon arriving to put our things in the unit, there is a ticket stating "this unit has been cleaned" but there were spider webs and dirt everywhere. We used the unit for a month and many of our things were ruined from a leak. We have also had a roach in almost every single one of our boxes. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

BEWARE!!! Anyone thinking of renting a storage unit at CubeSmart on 8th Street in Fernandina Beach should read this. In April of last year, we rented a climate-controlled storage unit from CubeSmart in anticipation of a move this year. The unit was located in the center of the ground floor of the 14th Street building, so you would think it was not only secure from the weather elements but any outside intrusion as well. For the next couple of months we filled the unit from wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling. Thereafter, I visited the unit two or three times to squeeze in a box or two, and once to remove a folding bed that was right at the roll-up door. On July 5th of this year (14 months after renting the space), Amelia Island Movers and I went to retrieve our furniture, housewares, and personal items, and found the unit had been overrun with rats. There was rat feces and urine over everything, holes had been gnawed into cardboard boxes, and a 4" hole was chewed out of the wicker façade on one of our master bedroom dressers. Before removing anything we called the office and had the young lady on duty come and look at the condition of the unit. Additionally, we took some 50 pictures as we unloaded the unit, and while we sorted through the boxes in our garage. Now you would think that this couldn't possibly happen in a climate-controlled unit in the center of the building, BUT IT DID! And, if you think it's improbable, try swallowing the story we were told by the staff that "no one else had a problem and they have never had a problem with rats." Well, unless these were magic rats that can mystically appear in the center of the building...(I used an ellipsis so as not to be offensive). The following day we contacted the insurance company THAT CUBESMART INSISTS YOU INSURE WITH, AND CHARGES YOU SOME $12.00 PER MONTH FOR COVERAGE. THEY DON'T COVER SUCH DAMAGES! Rodents are an exclusion. The insurance carrier suggested we contact CubeSmart Corporate Offices. We did that, and they denied liability. After our persistence they offered us some $600.00 as a good will gesture. The rental charges alone for the 14 months were over $1,700, not to mention several thousand dollars in damages to our property. In spite of all the self-serving disclaimers in the contract I believe it's the storage company's responsibility to take reasonable care of customers property. We intend to pursue the matter. I've used various storage facilities for years. This by far was the worse experience. I booked online to reserve the unit and did not receive a confirmation. The manager did call but could not explain the error. We discussed in detail the need for environmental control unit and cost but he neglected to mention the additional admin. fee. I explained that I am handicapped and he verified that the unit was located on site on the second floor next to the elevator. Once we arrived he said we needed to drive off site to a different location behind Walmart. Once we arrived at the site and took the elevator to the second floor he mentioned that he transposed the unit numbers and that our unit was around the corner and down the hall. Even though though this really put us in a bind with so many mistakes and misleading issues we decide not to do business with this cube smart location. First time renting with CubeSmart Storage. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility. Our unit is on the second floor and access to the elevator to get to our unit was perfect. There is plenty of room to back your vehicle up and load the elevator. They even provide a rolling cart. Thanks CubeSmart! read more
