They had a look at the other tyres and said the other front tyre needed to be changed as well. So I take the advice , the tyres were 4 years old so replacing them would be safer. Got 2 new continental tyres and left. Three weeks later , front right tyre blows almost causing an accident. No pot holes or anything were hit. Side of the tyre blew out. Brought the tyre back along with the receipt and warranty. They said I must have hit something really hard. I've seen blown tyres when they've hit curbs or pot holes and this was definitely not the same. The seem had burst on the side wall. They said that they wouldn't up hold the warranty as they implied I must have broken it myself. I even brought forward the fact my previous tyres lasted 4 years versus their tyres 3 weeks, my route to work involves no big potholes or anything to cause a tyre to blow out like it had. After some research online on continental tyres , there is over 230 complaints alone on http://www.consumeraffairs.com/tires/continental.html , they've been brought to court before on their tyres causing incidences and the common problem is the side walls seem to burst. The staff were very unhelpful and I advise anyone needing help NOT to use this place.

These morning I arrived around 11 am, and being ask to wait until they will have a look at my car. I have Fiat stilo airbag failure, common problem for these cars. After 2 h I realised my car is still not even touched! Girl at the reception was sitting in front of me and playing on mobile phone, bunch of mechanics walking around like on a staff party happy shaking hands and seems it`s only me who felt it`s something wrong !? After my unhappy but polite notice they pull in my car in for a 5 min check up( I wonder what they can check for that time!?) I have been told its sensor problem! Really surprised me! As I drive fiat for more than 5 years I know it perfectly sure its sensor, hidden under the seat. If it takes them two hours to have a look at my car , how long it would take to fix it!? By that time my kids tired and hungry, I have no time to spend sitting in a cold shop. And offer to fix sensor for 600e was not really friendly as all atmosphere and even little add from the mechanic that I wont be able to pass my nct without repairing it!!!Great news! These is way to much for me, as it probably half of the cost of my car. Any ideas of a good mechanic for Italian cars around north Dublin would really appreciate?!?

Only if it was a program Cowboy Mechanics they would win! 12 weeks of lies and promises and in the end the car is not fixed! David Stokes Motors Limited promised to rebuild my automatic gearbox in 1 week and took a deposit. Two weeks later after a call was told that the car is on a test drive and promised to send an update. Nothing happened. When arrived at the garage the car wasn't even there and was told that it was a mix-up. Work only started after 3 weeks. Every call or visit was told and assured that it will be fixed at a given time. After several calls, texts and visits I started really worrying that something was not going well and asked David Stokes for an update and had a suspicion that the repair was not going as planned. Gearbox went to the third party for work they couldn't complete themselves ( broken bearing removal toll was an excuse). After 6 weeks I collected the car. Straight after leaving the gearbox was still not working properly and other issues appeared on the dashboard. Car sent back to the garage. After testing l I received a report and a text saying that a Solenoid has a fault. The car was again brought to a third party electrician and settings were changed. I mentioned to David that I am not happy that my car is going from one garage to another and still not fixed with a lot of problems. Had to listen to the atrocious language and swear for simply asking the question. Another week later after inspecting again as they still have issues and they have found dirt and metal fillings left in a gearbox. So I assume the job wasn't carried properly and the gearbox wasn't cleaned and caused damage again. Went to the garage to meet David Stokes and see if there is an update. The gearbox was taken apart and was told that the clutch is now damaged. I was told at the beginning that this part is fine. For me, it looked like every test and removal had more parts damaged and needed to order. Gearbox stripped again as Solenoid has no pressure. The car was tested by David and Radar Light, Engine Light and Start / Stop errors appeared on the dashboard. David Stokes said that he is not happy with it as it is revving up, gears are not as they should be and happy to fully refund the money as he and his, ''professional team'' can not find a solution to fix the car and solve the issues. Also, several Fault Errors were coming up on the dashboard. To get a refund again took several emails and messages. AVOID this place to save your time and money!

They have shuttle buses that collect from the carparks and drop you off at the airport and these are regular enough. Also if your car does not start when you get back I believe they will send out breakdown service to sort your car out. The negative for me was that when I returned from my holiday I had to wait a long time for the red shuttle bus and when it did finally come along it was packed to the rafters which made it very very uncomfortable. Where was the shuttle bus that is meant to come along every 5 to 10 minutes? I felt I was back on the London underground with the invasion of space on all sides. I just hoped that everyone had taken a shower! Very tiring after a long evening of travel.

Let me introduce you to Stephen, who was recommended to me by a friend who used him for his commercial fleet. Too bad I got to use Atlas in Finglas first (see that review...quite an epic story) but at least Stephen's trustworthiness and professionalism was tested then because he advised me to go back to Atlas to get my exhaust fixed as it should be, he ended up doing it himself as the 2nd fix I had from Atlas wouldn't have lasted 6 months, and he offered even to go there himself, seeing they were so bad with me. The great thing about Stephen is that he will offer you the service you want : on the cheap, if there is a cheaper option like swapping parts or getting a decent 2nd hand or doing the most urgent things first and get the rest later, he ll be a very good advisor of this, and if you want, like me, to be told that there might be something dodgy here and there that he d like to have a look because I wouldn't notice stuff before its too late, he can do that too. Long working hours yet never short of a nice talk with you. The only nasty thing about his garage are the 3 mean ramps, do not attempt to go on them beyond 10km/h lol. Very highly recommended, someone who cares about your car, your safety and a 50/50 win.
I was just thinking about my experience with Baldoyle Auto Centre, and decided to write a review…read more I am from the USA (San Francisco) where auto repair can be rather, shall we say, predatory. Not in all cases, but in more than half, you're going to get gutted. Imagine my trepidation on moving to Ireland, buying a used VW Polo and having a loud BANG emminate from the engine compartment, followed by the smell of burning rubber. I'm in country 3 weeks. Don't know Polos ("3 cylinders? You're kidding!"), don't know ANY auto repair I can trust. Well, I had hired a carpenter who lived in Howth (near Baldoyle) all his life. He recommended Baldoyle Auto Centre. So I limped over there and threw myself on the mercy of the owner. I noticed his shop was clean and well-lighted. His workers were all very focused. No cigarettes. No shaved heads. No track suits. Hmmmm. The owner made a lot of eye contact in a way that led me to trust him. Sincerity is detectable. He said he could look at the car in a few days. He gave it a going over to make sure it was safe, then turned me loose. The problem was likely a broken spring. The car handled ok. The burning rubber smell was the serpentine belt, which had been crudely manhandled onto the car by a previous mechanic, damaging it. I returned in three days, the car was surrendered and I was kept abreast of the findings in the shop as work progressed. No unpleasant surprises. Broken spring. (replaced both sides at the same time. Minimal cost). Upper strut mount mangled, which caused the spring failure. Cheap fix. A bushing on the opposite side of the car required replacement. OK. Do it. And throw in a set of hubcaps because on Ireland's narrow roads, I had beaten the set on the car up pretty badly. Total cost: 400 euro. The car drives like new and the hubcaps helped with the cosmetics. Further, I was told that all the things that likely go wrong with Polos had now been fixed on this car, giving me peace of mind for the foreseeable future. It is so difficult to find trustworthy auto repair facilities, so when you find one, you want to share it with your friends, and that's what I'm doing here and on the streets. I later became aware of the amazing story of how Baldoyle Auto Centre came into being, but that's another subject. You can trust these people implicitly. What's THAT worth to you?
