West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

It will be years before my husband and I can stay at this hotel and have a true 'date day or night' and our kids are five and three. Honestly they'd get more money out of us if they offered babysitting for younger kiddos!! Food here is very standard and nothing to write home about. That applies to every restaurant off property we tried in the area. Activities we tried and enjoyed 1. Kids pony ride 2. Carriage ride. 3. Mommy and kiddo pedicure (expensive for what you get but also standard pricing for hotels). 4. The free!! Trolley train ride to the sister property. Activities are easy to book over the phone ahead of the stay and easy to do at the front desk or calling from your room. Very excited about the new bowling alley building they are almost finished with next to the hotel. The stables area is very picturesque with a large covered 'patio'. Patio seems too small a word. More like covered event space. Wedding perfect. Room was clean. Beds are not very comfortable. Killed my back and my husband's. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for the four of us. It had two balconies overlooking the atrium which I will never, ever book again. Too loud! All night long too loud! Even from the sixth floor, even with earplugs. Only exterior view next time for a stay. I would return next year for all of the holiday events. My kids loved this trip because of all the new experiences they had. Lots of things to do in the area that get you outdoors. Lovely part of Indiana in the Autumn (when we visited).

If you're looking for a place where you simply need a room for the night, keep scrolling…read more If you're looking for a weekend where you can slow down, wander beautiful grounds, and actually enjoy the hotel instead of just sleeping there...this is it. French Lick Springs Hotel somehow manages to feel both grand and incredibly relaxing. Everywhere you turn there's another detail worth appreciating--from the breathtaking domed atrium and historic architecture to the beautifully maintained grounds that practically beg you to take a leisurely stroll. The wraparound porch quickly became one of our favorite places. We spent a ridiculous amount of time rocking in the chairs, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking in the peaceful views. It felt like stepping back to a time when people weren't in such a hurry. One thing I didn't expect was how convenient it was to explore the area. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. We rode over to the casino resort, spent hours walking the grounds and exploring the restaurants, and on the way back the driver even dropped a few guests off at CVS and simply told them to call when they were ready for pickup. It's little touches like that that make you feel genuinely taken care of. Our room service breakfast was another highlight. Everything arrived hot and beautifully presented, from the biscuits and gravy to the fresh fruit oatmeal and perfectly cooked breakfast. Starting the morning with breakfast by the window overlooking those incredible grounds was hard to beat. The hotel itself has so many little spaces to discover. We wandered through the historic bathhouse, found a billiards room tucked away, admired the architecture, and never once felt rushed to get back to our room. Every hallway seemed to tell another piece of the hotel's history. And yes... The robes absolutely deserve their own paragraph. They're still some of the most comfortable hotel robes I've ever worn, and I'm standing by my original statement--you won't want to take them off. French Lick is one of those rare places where the destination and the hotel are equally memorable. We left already talking about coming back during another season just to experience it all again. The resort really needs updates to the rooms. Keys are not digital old school metal with 25.00 fee…read moreif you lose one as well. The check-in office is not really inviting or vibrant. The staff are friendly and are welcoming, but it is so dark that the colors of walls etc needs a update. The unit we had was 97A, 97B so we had both upper and lower units. Let's start the lower unit 97A it had a large TV in the main area and no TV in the bedroom. The cabinets were from the 70's and need to be refinished or replaced from the kitchen to the bathrooms and even the drawers that hold things. The bar stools are fabric and are stained and look disgusting they need to replace them with bar stools that match the table in that unit in 97A. Modern chairs. Couches were up to date pain for needs to be done and done properly. It looks like they have just painted over old paint and stuff never really sanded and replaced anything was issues. Also, the bathroom toilets are so low and small that it's like toddler toliets in church schools not ok for adults of any height or size. The shower needs work, and remodeling it is gross, and the drain is completely hard water and lime rusted and crusted super nasty if you actually wanted to use that half Jacuzzi tub. 97B the upper unit that dinner table is out dated and the chairs match the downstairs bar stools so at some point the replaced things half way and mixed matched stuff that is pretty bad also both stoves are old and outdated but the fridges were ok on both levels dishes were ok but again lots of mixed matched stuff and each floor had one shot glass per unit that I found funny. The upstairs door or glass has dew or water damage in-between the panels probably from the Jacuzzi upstairs that can seat 2 or 3 grown people however the hot water runs out a quarter way filling the tub and takes so long to heat back up the water level will drain it self before it can actually be filled properly. Design flaw or need better water heater for the unit to actually use the Jacuzzis either one. Same thing for up stairs cabinets needs updates lighting seems dark either bright white bulbs or med white bulbs would help make the place look more vibrant they Yellow bulbs with paint color make it seem dark and ugly once the sun sets just depressing. You can easily take a few of these recommendations even if just updating the stained yellow lamp shades on the lamps and changing the yellow bulbs to fresh lamp top shades and led bright white bulbs would make the place so much better. Right now, you have a few bright white led bulbs and mix matched yellow bulbs. Not only does it not match, but it shows you could give it potential with such minimal changes. I'm still on-site bit don't want to be bothered this is my shared opinion and none of these things can be fixed overnight or while I'm here I want to enjoy my time unbothered so no point in bothering the front desk and the binders that are passed out could be updated to smaller information with those binder part showing restaurants and area attractions etc that should be kept in the room on the table in a separate book that stays there showing all the things to do. Not lugged around forced to check in and drop off when you leave just leave a book version in the rooms with all that second half of the binder and cut the stuff someone has to carry around down. So that is my experience it's quiet people were friendly, but the Villas them selves I'm sure charge their owners for upgrades, and they need to actually do so. Upgrade the investments, people! More will actually want to come.

You can enjoy the swimming pool, mini-golf, volleyball court, walking trails, and the best golf cart parades. The main bathhouse was nice, the camp store is very well-stocked, and the snack bar area is super convenient. You also have the option to buy tickets directly for their onsite waterpark, and our pups really enjoyed the dedicated dog park. The biggest perk is definitely the location. Being so close to Holiday World & Splashin' Safari is unbeatable. As far as value goes, the pricing is good if you manage to book during a Black Friday promo. Otherwise, the extra fees really start to stack up. The mandatory resort fee covers Wi-Fi, select activities, and facility access, but on top of that, you are hit with Indiana sales tax on the rent, plus they tax the golf cart rental rate too. Most frustrating of all is the absurd "site lock fee"--if you don't pay extra just to lock it in, your site number is subject to change prior to arrival. A few tips and areas for improvement: * The Shuttle Service & Safety: While the free shuttle to Holiday World is great, during peak times (like a Saturday in July) it is extremely slow. The limited buses get incredibly overcrowded. Small children should really sit on an adult's lap rather than taking up a full seat so more people can fit. More importantly, the buses need to be checked regularly for maintenance, especially low tires. We witnessed one overly crowded shuttle where the tire was almost completely flat--it was so bad that my family and many other guests all noticed and felt it was a major safety hazard. With as much money as this campground charges, they really need to invest in more buses or even open-air trams to handle the crowds safely. * Golf Carts: Make sure to book a golf cart in advance (while making your reservation if available). If you wait until your stay, you likely won't be able to get one--and you will want one because of how hilly it gets once you pass the check-in point. That said, the rental carts themselves could use better maintenance, and the strict rule of only 1 cart per site feels outdated; larger families really need two. * RV Spots & Noise: Some of the RV spots are a pretty tight fit and can be quite unlevel, so bring leveling blocks and patience. We have never had a problem with noise here, but I always make sure to choose a pull-through lot off the main roads to stay away from the heaviest traffic. Given how much the costs have gone up with all the extra fees, combined with the frustrating peak-season shuttle issues, the cons are starting to outweigh the pros for us. Because of this, we are honestly on the fence about continuing our annual trip here. It's a fun place, but management needs to address these logistics if they expect families to keep paying premium prices.

I had the opportunity to stay here a year ago for a work function, and then more recently for a quick getaway. For its age, the rooms are pretty spacious. The rooms have been remodeled (although the paint on the wall of one room was peeling). Check in and out is quick and easy. The restaurant is seasonal so it was closed this last visit. The previous visit, the food was good and priced well. The staff accommodated 50 of us with no problem. As the property is adjacent to the marina, access is easy. There is an indoor pool as well. There are restaurants off site close by (I recommend the golf course). I would definitely recommend a lakeside room for a great view.

We walked in, greeted immediately by a very sweet friendly girl, asked for a seat outside and were accommodated and sat immediately. It was a Sunday at 6:15, very few tables were occupied inside and out. It was breezy and comfortable. They offered to attempt to find us someone to open the umbrella the rest of the way (it had a plastic knife shoved in there, I assume to keep it halfway opened) but we had shade so we declined. We got water and our order taken very quickly by an attentive server, drinks served quickly. Things were looking good. After we ordered we waited quite awhile but that was ok, we expected to get our appetizer and just relax while we ate. After quite a while the server shows up with the appetizer AND our entrees. I was not happy. What about an appetizer says it comes out with the meal, you are barely busy inside and now we have to shove it all in fast so our meal isn't cold when we hurriedly get to it. If you can't serve an appetizer as an appetizer, you obviously have time management as well as leadership issues in your kitchen. Bang bang shrimp: Shrimp was good sized. Cooked well. Tasted like it was dipped in that awful cornmeal bagged type "breading" you buy at a local grocery store and then topped in that fake "Bang Bang Shrimp" recipe you find on Facebook that people swear is a copycat of Bonefish Grill. Fish and chips: Again that awful cornmeal bagged breading taste. Cod without it was actually good, that breading made it so off putting. Coleslaw: Cabbage with a dollop of what seemed to be just mayo. My husband said that is the worst coleslaw I have ever tasted. It went untouched. Tartar sauce: Just a ton of mayo and little seasoning. Fries: Actually delicious. Pizza: Come on now...it's obviously a frozen disaster. If they are really trying to claim they make the dough...find someone new to learn how to make dough, it's very easy. It's like actual flavorless cardboard. My husband said I think they buy frozen pizza and top it with these uncooked veggies (they were so underdone he scraped them all off to try to eat it unsuccessfully and I refused to even finish a slice) and call it their own. Those tomato's needed another week to ripen. It came home with us and he threw it away when we got here. Drinks: Strong and good. Service: GREAT Food quality: Cheap tasting and felt like it was grabbed from a freezer. Worth the price: Absolutely not, the view is pretty but skip the food, grab a drink and go home to cook for yourself. Furthest thing from the "four seasons" that I have experienced. Cockroaches in every single cabin…read more I wouldn't stay here again under any circumstances. We rented a cabin for a family Christmas only to find cockroaches all over the cabin. They moved us to 2 other cabins after our discovery, and those BOTH were infested with cockroaches as well. This place needs condemned by the health department. Just because they're not located in the City doesn't mean they don't need to keep things clean. Ridiculous.

the worst shower I've ever taken, and I've lived in dorms, student housing, used public showers,…read moreetc. the shower in #14 is ridiculously small (like hard to turn around in small), only has a flimsy piece of fabric as a shower curtain which must be for decorative purposes only because it doesn't keep the water inside, has no lighting, poor water pressure, limited hot water, and has zero shelf space. the hook near the shower does not hold the towels they provide. it's just not functional or comfortable at all, especially if you are a woman trying to shave your legs.

This is one of the golf courses at French Lick Resort. We didn't play golf here, though. We played…read morefootgolf! It's like golf, but you play by kicking soccer balls around a course into large holes. It's way more fun than golf, in my opinion, especially for kids. The footgolf course will have you walking about a mile as you travel to each of the 14 holes on the course. The golf course is beautiful, so along the way you'll see lots of pretty trees, cross over a bridge and other things. One session took us about an hour, but if your aim is better than ours, I'm sure you can get through it quicker. Paying for a footgolf session means that you can play multiple times -- your pass is good for the whole day. This is a great deal, especially if you're staying at the resort. You can play, go get some lunch, then play again at your leisure.
