Might've been those legends that were breaking in the Cottages. A nearby group hit a hole in one on the fourth hole! And by hole in one I mean they got it relatively close to the pin but not close enough to make birdie. But the celebration was fun to watch! Again might've been those Cottages legends. Later in the round, Jimi saw a gentleman "Happy Gilmore" swing a drive well over 200 yards. Actually ran into this legend post round at Hagen's and found out he's a 2 handicap. In that he has not one but two physical handicaps that make him suck at golf. The round was going great until some corporate big shot I presume took a work call on the 13th tee box causing a logjam. I overheard him scream "Tanjit we are not aligned!" Then he threw the phone down in anger and topped his tee shot. But even this couldn't take away from a memorable round at the Don Ross! 5 stars

The battle of excitement continues and satiated today!! Playing golf at the famous French lick…read moreand wanting to take this challenge on alone!! I geared up durning the predawn hours with a little warm up and driving range. And then properly equipped after a stop at the club house I assaulted the course. I was happy to find I was first on and all alone and quickly found my groove. The course was neat, well maintained and with the exception of the first hole all grounds team quickly stood aside as I played thru. Unfortunately at hole one the guy waited for me to show up then proceeded to place the flag and groom the hole. Had to wait for 10 min while he took his time. Otherwise it was peaceful and a great time. Hole by hole I conquered the excitement and adventure Using my tradecraft and long honed skill of well placed mulligans i finished with 3 over. (Probably more like 9 if I am honest). Mission accomplished. Thanks French lick!!

It seems like there is a lot of construction around the area where 3rd Avenue crosses the Patoka…read moreRiver. The Riverwalk runs along the Patoka for quite a distance. I thought I would be able to find parking at the address assigned on Yelp, but that parking has signs posted that state the parking is for specific businesses only. Fortunately, I found a nice parking lot on the south side of the Patoka and one block west of 3rd Avenue. (Take Brucke Strasse west to Cemetery Drive and there will be shaded parking on both sides of the street.) This lot is really convenient for anyone who wants to check out the Jasper City Mill (when it is open) or the City's first handicap accessible playground (at least that is what the tombstone style marker claims.) Because of time constraints, I didn't try hiking the entire 2+ mile length, but was able to check out the downtown area. Next to the Mill, a bridge spans the Patoka with great views of the small dam/waterfall next to 3rd Avenue. It also offers views of the working side of the Mill. The trail goes east underneath 3rd Avenue to avoid the traffic and soon leads to an area called the Dave Buehler Plaza. Back near where I parked, the playground has equipment targeted towards smaller kids. There is also a fitness station with several pieces of workout equipment available. Note that during my visit, some construction cones were in the area, so be advised that at times, passage may be limited until the work is completed. Review #3190

This riverwalk is absolutely…read moregorgeous and a perfect way to get out and get some running, walking, jogging or biking in after all and the meat and potatoes you consume! I wish this trail was closer to where I live because I would be on it every day! The Riverwalk "stretches 2.1 miles from the Ruxer Golf Course on South Clay Street, to 15th Street. It follows the Patoka River through scenic wooded areas and along farm fields." As you pass through the 2.1 mile route you take in the Jasper City Mill and bridge, a deeply wooded area where you'll find some fisherman throwing lines and some squirrels that aren't afraid to stay on the trail and eat the corn that passers-by leave for them. It makes for great photo ops! The trail can obviously get a bit hot and sweaty in the summer months in the unshaded, sunny portions but it's well worth the time! There's even an ice cream shack you can stop by to cool you off a bit and if the river is high enough, it's fun to just sit and listen to the running water. A truly beautiful place! Know before you go: No restrooms! However, the owner of the Mill lets me use his but I ALWAYS buy a little something when I do. Their old candies and cornmeal are my top favorites! A perfect place for my 300th review!!

During the spring, summer and fall months they host many different events including a Luau beach party, and HillyBilly hay days just to name a couple. They often host live music with a lakeside amphitheater in the works!! The camp sites are good size, most having electricity hook up. They fill up fast so making a reservation is the smartest way to assure you've got a spot to pitch a tent or park your RV. They allow golf carts and have several different trails throughout the woods and park, NO SIDE BY SIDES.

They always have an amazing light display over the holidays but it has definitely gotten much better over the years. They turn the lights on after Thanksgiving and they stay on thru the end of the year. The lights around the water are stunning with the way they reflect off the lake. Some other displays they have are nativity scenes, several action displays and tributes to all the divisions of the United States Armed Forces. Overall this is a great little place to take the kids if you're wanting to see a nice display of Christmas lights.

Although I have been to Washington, IN before, I had not made time to explore East Side Park. What…read morea great amenity for the city! The entrance to the southeast side of the park is at a five point intersection, so be careful pulling into the park. Fortunately, the entrance is one way so you don't have to worry about meeting another car on this narrow road. The park has lots of gazebos and benches for visitors to enjoy. The high ground near the entrance also has a memorial area for service including military and firemen. Farther into the park is Baumert Lake and a nice walking trail around it. Fountains and a mini lighthouse on island add to the view. On the northwest end you will find a pavilion, a playground, basketball courts, and a stage with seating. To the northeast on top of the hill is an area that I'm assuming is part of the fairgrounds since there were structures labeled with farm animal names. Lots of mature trees for shade, several places to pull off for parking and a large central parking lot (paved) just north of the lake makes this a convenient place to visit for awhile. Review #3181

So, it's not a bad little hike to take. This particular day it was gloomy and sort of wet. I was chilly, and couldn't seem to get warm. This particular Park cost a fee to enjoy but because its not in season the shacks gate was open do no charge. I definitely would recommend and go back again.

Guided boat tours of the twin caves are offered every 30 minutes from 9-5 each day for only $3 a…read moreperson! The tours are in high demand, so make sure someone from your group gets there a few minutes before 9 to line up to schedule your time slot for the day. We did a tour with tour guide Morgan a few weeks ago, and it was awesome! Very interesting and educational. The tour takes about 20 minutes and you get to see a lot of different areas of the cave with different features, as well as some crayfish! There is one part where you can reach out and touch the cave as well. The boat is small and all riders straddle the bench inside for the duration of the tour. Could be difficult for older people and a little scary for some folks, especially those who have claustrophobic tendencies. You also need to be able to go down 85 steps to get to the boat and back up those steps after the tour. Life jackets are provided! Important to mention that my family is NOT outdoorsy at all, but we really enjoyed the tour! I recommend wearing a hat of some sort to prevent panic if any water drips on you as you go through. Highly recommend to those visiting the park!!

As a first timer, I didn't think to protect my keys. I came out and my car wouldn't start. I asked if they could assist with a jump and they were willing but realized my battery was fine. The guy mentioned my key fob (apparently if water get in it can disable the sensor leading the car to not recognize the key). He took it upon himself to go use a device to dry my keys out for me. Our hero!

From Louisville takes about 45 minutes, easy drive and through beautiful farm land. We were picked up at the pull out, easy and careful. We took our own kayaks and paid for the service fee. Rooster's down the way was the perfect place to have dinner after a trip down the river. We hope to make this a tradition and return for a scenic, peaceful and calm trip down the river.
