Before the workout / sweat sesh with Goddess Carlyn

Older building on an older street. Fortunately they include decent signage so you can make your way thru without too much difficulty. Enter and up the stairs to the second floor. Hook a sharp right turn at the top of the stairs to to "front office" to checkin. From there you can follow the music and voices of the instructor for the class in session / the receptionist could escort you if it's your first time. At my friend's strong suggestion, I took Intro to Pole with Carlyn. This was my second class ever (I took my very first demo session at Sedusa in San Jose). Carlyn js an MF BEAST!!!!! Like, hella goals and so sassy but with a great disposition and teaching style. This is a super welcoming environment where various experience and skill levels are present and I highly recommend this dance studio / instructor! Minus 1 star for the location/building which definitely needs renovations. Tan duct tape on the floors and the residents of the neighboring apartment were definitely peeping toms via the sheer curtained window. Great entertainment for them but I definitely regretted selecting the pole in the front (wanting to see/hear Carlyn best) because I had an audience I wished would disappear. Overall a great workout and I was legit sore for the next three days. Definite Leg Day vibes

Ask the Community - Atomic Allure

Do you have introductory offer packages for new students?

Can anyone provide drop in/class package pricing information? It's not on the website and I can't reach anyone by phone. Thanks!

Hey it actually is on the website! If you click “view schedule” it’ll take you to their MindBody site. You may have to have a login to see the price points but I think a drop in class is $20 :)

I appreciate how professional this business is + how kind everyone here is! And how pole + dance offers discounts to extend itself to the community in an effort to be more accessible to folks :) It is a bit pricier than other studios but the quality is amazing. My only "complaint" is that at one of the classes I signed up for, there were more students than there were poles so some of us had to share. I'm not sure if this is typical for auditioning instructor community centric classes, but I found it a little odd as I've never experienced that at any studio class before, and I've specifically taken several of the $10 classes. I'm not sure if it's an over-booking issue, or the intent really is to have people share but I prefer to have my own pole. Perhaps a helpful feature that could be implemented in the app is showing the class capacity that you're signing up for, I.e. "8/10 spots"-- a studio I used to go to had this feature and it greatly helped me decide on classes to sign up for. Overall a beautiful space and I look forward to more classes here!

I first learned of P+D from Netflix's documentary, "Strip Down, Rise Up". I have since been to all 3 studios in the bay (Oakland, Berkeley and SF). All the instructors bring their own style and personality to pole. The instructors that I returned to were Celia F and Marguerite. Amy has done a great job with her studios. I really admire that they offer scholarships for students and people from disadvantaged backgrounds/going through tough times. Gotta give credit where credit is due!

The adult drop in class packages work best for me and I've been consistently attending Sam (primarily silks and lyra) and Megan's (trapeze) classes. I called the front desk to make my initial purchase because there were so many options, I couldn't decide what I wanted based on my schedule. Fortunately, Janelle (front desk) was very patient and helpful, and I ended up getting the 10 class pack. When I got there, it was a bit intimidating because I was more used to smaller studios, but everyone here was so nice. Janell also made sure to check on me to see if I was doing ok when I took my first class. The other students and teachers were very welcoming and supportive to check out other classes, which is how I ended up with taking two classes back to back at-least once a week instead of just one class. In regards to the teachers, "great" would be such an understatement. I love Sam's class because even though it's primarily silks, they'll put one other apparatus (hoop mainly, and recently flying pole!) for us to try out-so it's more than just one apparatus in this one class. I also really like that they'll give us challenging *enough* moves because it's so satisfying to execute steps after struggling so much for it. I also love Megan's trapeze class because she's very flexible with our experiences. This pace is great for me because I don't have alot of experience with trapeze and the ropes on it feel so different from silks! Nikki and Zi have substituted for their classes and they're both amazing as well. I'd highly recommend taking classes here. It's a fun and challenging workout compared to a regular gym...I also love that it's spacious too!

I received a glass flameworking class as a surprise for Christmas, paid for, with the option for me to move it to a number of dates. I chose the March 8th date. It's been THREE MONTHS of multiple calls, voicemails, and emails per week to The Crucible. We have gotten ONE single response the entire time: something to the effect of "so sorry we dropped the ball - we'll get back to you," then.... nothing. None of our calls or emails or voicemails have been returned. The March class date has now passed, and not a single offer of a refund or a reschedule. We're doing a chargeback, which we really hate to do since it's so detrimental to the business, but... if it weren't for all these other reviews I'd wonder if this place even exists? Three full months of effort on our end and not a single useful human answer?Hoping this review plus the chargeback gets us some sort of resolution.

It's fast-paced and she throws a lot of information at you, but the whole process is warm, interactive and accessible. I immediately felt like I could leave Ruby's home and make these cheeses (and other dairy products!) we had learned in my own. I especially love that she's found what seems like the perfect middle ground between science lesson and home-cook/homesteader understanding. She brings her personal experience in with just enough of the science and technical understanding to make home cheese making incredible accessible and attainable. I also love that IUH also has a sliding scale for fees because it demonstrates the value they put on what they teach in making these classes more widely accessible.
