Back home I managed to find the best doctor ever- this little Belgian woman who was thorough, funny, and had an office with amazing support staff. I was worried about finding a doctor to meet my very high standards. Most of the time you don't think of the BMC for high quality care- it is located right next to a meth clinic and we've seen the people walking around the South End with their plastic "patient belongings" bags. But then I found the Women's Health Group. It's a group of doctor's completely dedicated to women's health issues. No boys allowed! My very good friend, who is a med student, recommended them to me. I couldn't be happier. I currently see Dr. McKinney. She's awesome. Attentive, caring, and really knows what she is doing. I feel safe and comfortable with her. Now all my girlfriends go to the clinic and all are incredibly happy with their practitioners. The only downside is the scheduling- sometimes it is very hard to get an appointment with the quickness. BMC has a huge patient base and you are competing with a lot of people who need help more than say, my privileged south end ass. But, I was surprised how hard they worked to get me in- all I needed was a script filled and even though I hadn't officially had an exam with the doc they let me come in for a short appointment to get things situated. Regardless of the scheduling this place gets five stars. People deserve ten stars for dealing with me when trying to get my blood drawn. I'm one of those fainters. They had the smelling salts all ready to go.

She even made an appointment with me for 2 months later to check up on me and see how I was doing. She's moved to Beth Israel now (which totally bummed me out), but I'm staying at BMC cause it's convenient for me and everyone there is so helpful. I had an urgent issue, called the office, and they squeezed me in the next day, which is like UNHEARD OF.

Not Even Your Worst Enemy …read more.. As a nurse with thirty years of experience, I have never encountered such blatantly unprofessional behaviour as with the staff at Rehab Hospital of RI. The staff were rude over the phone. They were "too busy" to discuss anything with the family member (who is, coincidentally, also a nurse), discharged the patient too early without a care plan in place, refused to discuss aftercare concerns two hours after the patient left saying "once you're discharged you're on your own". This patient could not walk unassisted, was released without an assistive device (a cane!). The most insane piece was two nurses assisting this patient down THREE FLIGHTS OF STAIRS because the elevator was broken. He was going to be discharged and they didn't want to wait for the elevator to be repaired. Absolutely the poorest care, the most unprofessional attitude. NOT recommended under any circumstances.

No. Nonono…read more I had suffered from an Achilles tendon strain and my doctor recommended RIRH and one other facility because of their location near me. I picked RIRH and I regret doing so. RIRH is a part of Landmark which has recently been bought by an out of region hospital chain . The facility itself is outdated , and much of the hospital has been shut down (MRI, XRAY, etc) and moved to Woonsocket . I came in with an open mind and tried to give them a chance. Some things right off the bat: Parking. Its no fun to walk in an air cast. The hospital isn't designed for outpatient services and it shows. If you need a cane to walk more than 50 yards, bring your cane. Signage for outpatient physicial therapy is nonexistent. Luckily the kind janitor was able to direct me to the basement. Outpatient PT seems like an afterthought. They do have a pool at least, which seems to be one of their big talking points. I had called for my first appointment and got attitude when I asked for evening appointments. I called on a Tuesday and couldn't be seen for over a week, with an appointment that wasn't in the evening (I was trying to be flexible.). Great way to start the healing process. As soon as I walked in to my first appointment I was given a list of appointments for the next 8 weeks. All on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I wish I had some input into that, and when I asked to change an appointment due to prior commitments, again, attitude. Billing is done off site, so there is no one to easily speak to if you have a question . If you do call, again, expect an attitude. I have hit my out of pocket this year. I received a letter from RIRH saying I would have a copay. I called to ask what was wrong so I could call my insurance and they said "well that is for your info only, so if your insurance says otherwise, disregard it.". Uh, what? These are all things I could be ok with, if the actual care provided was adequate . Now here's where the fun starts My first visit (eval) was awesome. John was thoughtful , explained what was going on, and answered all of the nitty gritty odd ball questions I had. He felt that my strain was due to tight calves and that if I didn't fix that, that the injury would keep happening . Awesome. TENS unit, some ultrasound , and I was optimistic for my next visit. Enter other physicial therapist. All they seemed to care about was my pain level and that we got everything done in 30 minutes (because that's how long the appointment could be, no more, no less.). I expressed my concern about my calves and they retorted "well I didn't do your evaluation so I don't know.". Great. That's great. Ultrasound, no tens unit, tape, stretching, and away I went. The next few appointments went like this. Again, concentrating on pain levels, not on prevention. I was having pain while doing my exercises at home and hearing a popping noise, and I couldn't get an answer as to why, or why this new symptom was occurring . Just "as long as it's not in extreme pain, I don't care that it's popping." I went back to my doctor, explained what had happened, asked about my calves , and he said he agreed , that it needed to be addressed . Also agreed that if I wanted to that I could find a new therapist. Gave me a new script, and I promptly cancelled the remaining appointments I had at RIRH. Please, go somewhere else, unless your health care provider has a specific reason why you must go to RIRH. I know others have done well with specific people here who specialize in certain things, but never again for me.

I mean...REALLY? The doctor came out...saw me for 5 minutes...said I had a virus, but not swine flu..and I should get an over the counter medicine--and bounced. This is why I hate hospitals. Could have saved me so much freaking time. What a waste of my sick day.

The hospital is and dose AMAZING work for kids. It has some of the top notch providers and is well regarded as a top hospital for children world wide. We had to make a appointment with Dr. Micheal de Moor he title Chief of Cardiology for Pediatrics. We got a appointment on extremely quick. We also were PTs of this Dr. de Moor so that may have help get us in quicker. The issue I have is with Dr. de Moor and his grossly dismissive and completely discriminatory behavior. We came into the hospital for a Clarence letter. Part of Dr. de Moor assessment was to get a EKG done that went very well the lady who conducted this was very nice and made it playful for the kids. Also part of Dr. de Moor's assessment was listen to the heart using a stethoscope. After his assessment I requested to borrow a stethoscope to also listen to my daughter's heartbeat and his finding. After my request Dr. de Moor rudely asked me "if I was a doctor?" And then bluntly discriminated, and bullied me and by saying "oh your not a doctor so you won't hear what I hear" WRONG WRONG WRONG I'm the parent's father that alone supersedes any and all medical knowledge I have. In fact I was so shocked about Dr. de Moor's saying this to me that I asked again and yet again I was told no. The fact that I was prohibited from this is total against what I learned. What give Dr. de Moor the right or the audacity to say I won't hear what he just did. Was he lieing about his diagnosis??? Was he trying to hide something from me? Was his ego to large to allow me, a parent to listen to my daughter's heat beat? What Dr. de Moor did by discriminating me is far to common in the USA. People don't usually ask doctors follows up questions. People go to the doctor and take what ever the doctor told them and go with it. I however don't. I go to amazing lengths to properly vet any medical provider I meet. I check the status of there license via the Mass.Gov website. I check there school's standards and GPA. Let say I go full investigation on them. Full background check Dr. de Moor not only told me no to my request he did so in a way that was so comfortable for him to do. He did so in a way that I take into question his ethics as a provider. I take into question about his medical diagnoses. I take into question the entire visit with him. He I think got mad that I asked a question. I saw him thinking in his head this guy is a complete loser not being a doctor why the hell is he questioning my medical opinion" Dr. de Moor treating my family and I as 2nd class citizens is not only prohibited by the policies and procedures of this facility but more importantly unmoral. I have all the rights to asks a million questions I have all the right to ask to listen to my daughter's heartbeat. I have all the right to be concerned about my daughter's well being. I have all the right to be A informed parent. Dr. de Moor has a fiduciary responsibility to answer those questions and properly inform me. I did out reach to the Hospital. I did get a call from the head of the pediatrics (that's a big deal) that Dr. Did apologize about Dr. de Moor actions. I also go a call from Dr. de Moor he said he was sorry. He said he was having a bad day and that I should mark this event as such. He also said that his behavior was unexcusable and he did not want to make excuses. This terrified me as the man works with children's hearts he can't afford a bad day!!!!!!!!!. His bad day may cause him to mistakenly diagnosis a child or even mistaken cause a surgery compilation. If he brushed me off like that on a "bad day" I don't even want to think about what he would mistakenly do if he had a real bad day. I will follow up the top brass of this hospital and inform the State of what events took place.

By far the best care and treatment from the staff of the nursing homes/rehabs that I've been in…read moreover the last few years - staff here treated me better than any other place. I have no complaints about the CNA's, the nurses, how I was treated during intake, moving to another room, how they treated my roommate when he was brought in... They were so welcoming to him because he'd been there before ... So that Nursing staff and the PT/OT people were terrific. Everything about my experience there, including the food was great, and I would recommend them to anyone needing short term or rehab care. I cannot speak about what it's like to live there long-term I did not see that part of the facility, I was on the first floor ... That being said, I have a major complaint with the social worker/case management worker who completely BOTCHED my transfer to the Westview nursing home/rehab in Warwick, which is 45 minutes away and also run by the same company that runs overlook. I was never notified when I would be transferred, or what time, and nobody visited me to discuss discharge and go over medication and paperwork, and prepare me for the type of transfer. This was a huge problem for me. I am unable to breathe sitting up in a wheelchair for more than a few minutes. I've only ever traveled by ambulance from house to hospital from hospital to facility and from facility to my house in the past. Always on a stretcher. So when a lady in a soccer mom minivan showed up in 5° weather and they told me suddenly "OK get your stuff together. It's time for you to go!!!" ... I was shocked and upset. They had told the lady coming to pick me up nothing about who I was and what I needed and transport. So she was helpless. They were extremely incompetent in failing to prepare me for this journey, failing to explain to the driver what she would be dealing with concerning me as a patient, and not providing me the care I needed to be safe and secure and medically supervised in the transfer. What was so frustrating was with no notice and no time to get ready, they expected me to sit in the wheelchair in 5° weather in a T-shirt and no socks, and no coat while that lady fussed around with the van moving stuff around to make accommodations for my wheelchair in the back of the van, which she had to push up a steep makeshift ramp into the back of the minivan, and then get tied down with both side and rear doors open, so she could get in from the back and also from the side, not to mention find a place to store the oxygen bottle and make that safe to travel, all of which caused me to be freezing cold and lose my breath and have my heart rate accelerating into high tachycardia, bpm range - and there was no help by the facility staff - it was the worst experience of transport I've ever had and they were just un concerned and nonchalant about it. The lady who finally secured me in the minivan was not a nurse or have any experience that way she was just a driver. So I was freaking out and unable to get the care I needed, which is to stretch out and let my heart calm down before we start driving in traffic and I start being jerked around by the normal movements of a car in traffic... truly a horrific traumatizing experience, but I considered to be seriously lucky to have made it to Westview, despite tachycardia and high blood pressure and extreme anxiety during the whole journey. So I give them a four star rating for the great care of the staff and the great set up and the great vibe of the short-term care, rehab floor... However, my main complaint is revealing - both the the social worker and case management lady failed me big time in a way that put a serious risk to my health by screwing up how I got transferred to the other facility in Warwick.
