It's now July 2013 an unfortunately she is headed back there for rehab again. Good news is she's happy to be going there. I came in from out of town a few days before the hurricane, I was not looking forward to seeing my Nan in a nursing home but when I got there I was very surprised. It did not smell & the residents looked really happy. The staff always seemed happy as well. During meal hours anyone who was visiting was welcome to eat as well. We often saw whole families sitting around a table in the dining room all eating meals. I thought that was great! There was also a room set up like a little cafe. They had a single serve coffee, cappuccino, latte machine, tea, hot chocolate and bagles and assorted pastries, and not just for the residents anyone was welcome to have some. And then after the hurricane hit and we had no electricity, no clean water, no car, no nothing we walked over to visit Nan & they were even more accommodating. I couldn't believe it!! These were people who also didn't have electricity, water or cars at their own homes but they still came to work & took care of anyone who needed it. It was really great.

The activities are wonderful, and it keeps everyone busy for as long as they want. The food is good and the meals are well planned. Wendy the Director is always available to take care of all matters and answer all questions. She is a wonderful compassionate person and they are very blessed to have her there. Wendy also made the process of putting mom on medicade easier for my family. I recommend the Bristal it is very clean and it is a wonderful home away from home for your love ones.

Floors 1-4, assisted living, are always temperature controlled, clean and fresh smelling. The fifth foor, memory care, has non-working air conditioning, the floors are littered with food and trash and seldom smells fresh and clean. Add to that the aides on the floor seem to think they have to do the bare minimum for the residents, after all most of them can't advocate for themselves. I have found my loved one dirty, unkempt and wearing someone else's clothes (even though all clothing MUST be labelled with the owner's name). I don't move her out of here because, at this point, at least this is a familiar surrounding and I don't want to disorient her but for the exorbitant fees, they should be ashamed of the "Cottage".

They are doing their life's work. They are not only skilled but are filled with compassion and love. They have unending patience. Two of the extraordinary caretakers were Promise and Rachel but there were many others as well. They could not only arouse my mother out of a stuporous state while she was in hospice to feed her or clean her but they could get her to smile and respond. They brought out the best in her at the worst time. It was like taking care of an infant. The connection that they had with her was nothing short of remarkable. We all end up at the end of life the way we were in the beginning. We are helpless and need angels to care for us. Within 2 days they couldn't locate her clothing we brought in for her. A few days later they lost her close up glasses (not cheap ones) when we had a change of room. I reported this to everyone here from the volunteers all the way up to administration. There is no communication here and most of the staff is very lax and slow. They almost never delivered her hearing aids and I had to ask for them every time I came. (They are taken out and put in a cart at night ). The TV wasn't working for the entire first week even though they called maintenance. Into her second week she developed an infection and nobody called family to let us know nor were we told what the treatment regiment was. I just felt that overall the care wasn't great. I have nothing else to compare this to but I am overall very disappointed. I know working here isn't the greatest job ever and it's very demanding but I'm sorry I didn't see the overall rating on yelp before she came here. The best part of this place is the free bakery in the lobby.
