Twenty Years a Member
After joining the Atrium in 1994 I am finally leaving as work takes me elsewhere. I have been to a number of gyms but the Atrium has undoubtedly been the friendliest. Although I can't do what I used to do 20 years ago I don't feel embarrassed, as there are lots of people like me, who are just ticking over and trying to improve or maintain their fitness and weight. Things were a lot different when I worked in Leicester and went to a David Lloyd Centre, where most members were "fit young things" and I was one of them! The mix of members is one of the Atrium's big strengths and, yes, there are members who can leg press 500lbs, when I'm pushing 160lbs, and I did use to see Goldie Sayers (Olympic Javelin finalist) but recently I have seen a partially sighted woman and a guy on crutches. So it has my recommendation if you want a gym with a good range of aerobic machines, sauna, steam room , pool, jacuzzi and free and pulley weights. But, for me, it's really the friendly staff and members which make it a good gym to join. So long and farewell. read more
