I used the cardio machines, the pools, the sauna and steam room during my free trial. The pool was warm and clean, and was pretty quiet whenever I went there. The cardio machines were good, but some of the bikes didn't work properly which is annoying. I liked the changing areas and the showers, nice and warm and very clean throughout. I'd love to join, but £51 a month off-peak is too much for me at the moment.

The young…read morelady was extremely knowledgable and watched me run on a treadmill in 2 or 3 different pairs of running shoes before offering me a pair that would suit my running style. Everyone runs differently and l over pronate. These trainers will correct that and hopefully ease my shin splints. I've only had them 2 days but they feel different when l run. A brilliant place for runners and if you have problems of any sort with running then go and ask them. I cannot praise them highly enough. Well done.

A really good local Gym, with added bonus of a dance studio, and hair salon on site. all of the…read moredquipment is fairly new and there is plenty of it. you name theequipment you wantvto use and they have it. most of the cardio kit is in one area and there are normally 3 to 4 machines the same, so no need to queue for a cross trainer. a fantastic row of 8 to 10 treadmills see's you move into theare of core strength building machines and shoulder presses and then on into an amazing weights and strength trainjng equipment, though i havnt used it yet. plenty of classes available including spinning, aeorobics and Clubbercise (aerobics in the dark in a local nightclub with loads of flourescent and neon lights and glow sticks..... looks fun and hoping to try it soon) chnaging rooms and showers are a little small and could do with some upgrading, but they are functional and clean, however when busy there is sometimes a queue for the showers. recommended... definitely !

I have been visiting this gym for some time now and mainly chose it due to its lokcation and being…read moreclose to the station too is convienient. The equipment is fine ie the usual machines however not as modern as some other gyms in the area but it has all that you need. It would be good the have some additional machines such as power plates etc and maybe some machines with built in usb and tv etc. The pool is a great bonus and well maintained and there is a nice little sauna and steam room although the steam room is sometimes a little dirty. The service is fine, pretty non obtrsuive however sometimes you can get hijacked by all the personal trainers on the prowl but mainly they are polite and not too pushy. Opening hours at the weekends could be better as it opens quite late at 9am and also the classes all seem full in weekday evenings and nothing at weekends.

I used to go to a gym in another town who had a huge mebership area / café, nice changing rooms and good showers, jacuzzis and vast amounts of space everywhere, all of which LA lacks, so in comparison I'm not overly impressed, but LA Cambridge is now the one closest to my new flat. However I joined mainly for the classes - I DID mention this to the membership advisor, several times. They don't have a huge selection of classes and for the most popular ones it seems one would have to stay on the online "memberzone" class booking website until past midnight, when a new day becomes available to book, to get a place for a popular class 9 days down the line. I was rather surprised to find that a particular class I had been planning to book was already full around 9am on the day it had become available. Surely this is something the HO / Gym manager / other timetable planning body should have already noticed and changed the timetable accordingly, either adding more classes to it or moving the popular ones into a bigger studio. I think the membership advisor should have at least mentioned this when selling the gym to me. They seem to mainly push the personal trainer / gym equipment & weights side, which does not interest me like I said in the first place. Rather than listening to my wishes and how i would like to use the gym, the advisor kept repeating the same things which were largely irrelevant to me ("if you pay a more expensive joining fee, you get a free personal training session voucher." "yes, but I'm not interested in a personal training session" "but if you pay more you get it for free!" you get the idea...) I have also emailed the HO and have received no reply whatsoever. All in all - the little I have managed to go to the gym has been fine, but the "office"staff do not listen to the customer (instructors are nice) and neither does the so-called customer service at HO. Regularly over-subscribed classes mean the timetable does not respond to demand. They run what is their idea of what a gym should be, not a service to customers.

Plus points: long opening hours (though they don't always stick to closing times if you're a late bird), good range of machines and weights all on one level, hot showers, plenty of lockers and changing space. Pick the right times and the place is surprisingly poseur free, with more than enough machines and space for you to work your guts out without interruption. Low points: fairly disinterested staff imo (I know it's cheap membership and guess they are on peanuts but still), not all machines that look the same act the same (I think this is due to wear n tear, so tend to have a favoured machine for each exercise to be consistent). In peak hours there are a few fitness fanatics who make you feel like why bother. Music is a bit too loud, take an mp3 player if you don't like chart music.

I joined 18 months ago and it's the first time I haven't given up on a gym membership even before the trial period ran out - I love it there. The reasons I stuck with it are the quality of the equipment on offer, the great variety of classes available in the studio that keep you from getting bored with your workout as well as the fact that it is never so busy you've got to wait ages for a particular machine. Above all it's to do with the great friendly atmosphere created by the team of fitness instructors who are always happy to give advice, motivate and chat. They provide you with a fitness assessment and a tailor-made programme when you join as well as regular update reassessments, if desired. There is also a sauna and steam room, a couple of sunbeds and supervised children's area which needs to be booked ahead as well as a treatment room for physiotherapy and sports massage. The changing rooms are clean and tidy with lockers, showers and hairdriers available but there are no free towels provided. The opening hours should suit early birds as well as night owls. The prices are very reasonable compared to other gyms in Cambridge, it is possible to pay monthly as well as annually and they offer a student discount.
