Dropped in here while passing through town, after getting a tip from a sound guy up in Knoxville. So glad we dropped in here! The atmosphere is great! The red light really sets a tone - as you cans see from so many of the photos, but the food was on point! I had the curry ramen with chicken, and it was fantastic! I don't know how they get that crust on the chicken, but it held up in a bowl of noodles for a shocking amount of time! Love food piping hot and they delivered! Went to Attack of the Tatsu and honestly... I was not prepared. We found this by chance and decided to stop by. Given that the seating outside was full, they took us to the bar, and it was WOW! The ambiance was just subpar. Walked in thinking it's just another Japanese spot. Walked out questioning why this place is ONLY in Chattanooga! the drinks were fun, but the food was next level. So, my focus this week has been Chattanooga's Buger Week and we visited another local spot that offers a burger only one week a year. Being a Japanese restaurant, they of course used Waygu beef and the thickest burger I've seen this week, fused with a variety of Japanese flavors and ingredients. It was a great burger and I accompanied it with some pickled vegetables and edamame. The food was superb and with their expanded Japanese beer options, it made for a wonderful meal. Man- Chattanooga we then found out! Attack has been one of my favorite dinning experiences in a while! From the food, to the ambience, the free arcade games, and then the fire food! Yall dont pull up because I want a table! I arrived at Attack on a Tuesday night after a long drive in from the coast. We were seated immediately and waited on by a great server. We tried everything, Japanese sodas (4/5, coolest part was the open) chicken katsu sando (5/5 especially with the chilli oil),edamame (2/5, was dry while soggy when salty, while flavorless lol idk), and an order of Ramen (4.5/5). Feels like I just stepped into a side street in Japan! Great! First impression in the back room of this place. We sat at the bar and could watch them make ramen. Very busy, loud, active environment. I ordered the vegetarian ramen which was great. The portion size is amazingly huge but I have a belly for ramen and so I ate all of it. Their sauces are definitely commendable and you should try them out. They also had a free sake shot for select guests in that room. Definitely a good buzz. Great spot! I almost forgot how good this place is. Asher was our server. He answered all our questions. I had the classic chicken Katsu bowl and my wife had ramen. It was all delicious. I thought we were done until Asher told us about the late night menu which had drink and food specials. We had the dumplings and 2 shots of hot sake for $1 each. We sat I. From the moment that you walk in, you get the feeling that you stepped into some Back Alley, Ramen shop in Kyoto. I mean that in the best way. The motif is distinctly Japanese and the menu is a little bit of eclectic. But I suggest that you start off with the scotch egg. Yes, that's right - SCOTCH EGG. If you've ever had a scotch egg, you'll like this one because it's taken to a different level by using Panko as the crust. The egg in the middle is a perfectly cooked Ramen egg, and the combo in fusion of traditional meats. Japanese is amazing. Next, let's talk about the Ramen. There are other things on the menu, but why not go for what this place really does well. For this adventure, I chose the Japanese curry Ramen.. The thing I like Japanese curry for is the distinctive heat and bite. It meets all the criteria of a good curry sauce, but there's a very subtle wasabi element to it it doesn't just add heat, it adds punch. The curry Ramen had a very tangy and warming field to it right along with the perfectly cooked Ramen noodles and the perfectly cooked chicken Katsu cutlet. The service was excellent by the way, and our server was always attentive. There's a back room that has more of a cocktail bar feel to it, and that's where you can get a variety of beverages. If you're feeling adventurous, I would suggest the Japanese whisky. Enjoy a glass of Japanese malt is a scotch egg. I think the combination pairs perfectly. read more

This place is dope, we took a chance on a place that was close to our hotel and it did not disappoint! The ramen was insane, made especially delicious with the black garlic oil. The servers were so kind and attentive, we were sat quickly and received very efficient service. I got the tonkatsu ramen and it was alright. Nothing to report; I was actually pretty surprised at the high rating, but maybe I just got unlucky with my ramen! The broth was decent but I've had much better authentic and flavorful broth. The vibe was awesome though, cool place to hang. I just wish the food was just as good! Tried this spot on our last day in Chattanooga! The interior is super cute and trendy. There's a bright, airy seating area in the front and a moodier section in the back with dimmer lighting. We chose to sit in the front since the music in the back was a little too loud for us. For appetizers, we ordered the sliders and chicken karaage, both were delicious! For mains, I had the Pork Katsu Bowl and my boyfriend got the Menchi Katsu Sando. My katsu was on the dry side but still tasty. Came here for dinner on a friend's recommendation. We were in town for business, and I was excited at the prospect of good ramen. OVERVIEW/AMBIANCE: Attack of the Tatsu is located on a main road, but the entrances are either in a (slightly creepy) back alley or on a side street off the main road. The storefront is small, but if you go further in (and you have to be 21+ I believe), you can sit in the cooler back room with red lanterns lining the ceiling and a view of the kitchen. Flat water was available tableside in repurposed Japanese alcohol glass bottles, which I thought was very cool. I will say, about halfway through the meal, my eyes were constantly stinging and watering because of the smoke coming from the kitchen. SERVICE: Our server was great, she welcomed us, walked us through the menu options, and made some recommendations of her favorites. FOOD: The menu was plentiful, with lots of options. I actually struggled to decide what to get. For appetizers, I got their edamame, but didn't love the sesame dressing they did on it. Maybe it's the purist in me - just give me clean, steamed edamame with a sprinkling of salt. The dressing took away from the edamame's flavor for me. I also tried their Katsu slider, it was pretty good, had a good crisp from the breading. The tonkotsu ramen was a bit of a let down for me - the broth was watered down, the pork cuts were i think BBQ based, and the noodles were undercooked. RECOMMENDATION: I'm unsure if I'd visit this place again to try other menu items if we were ever in town. I feel like they took Japanese cuisine and opted to make a fusion or put their own spin on it, which is fine, but I am a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine and flavors - simple, clean, and perfected over their long history, so I don't think this was my cup of tea overall. read more

Visiting Tennessee during a rainy day, I was craving ramen so bad and decided to try Attack of the Tatsu . It was packed (always a good sign), but the food came out so good it was 100% worth the wait. The whole place is such a vibe super dim lighting, cozy, and lowkey feels like you stepped into an anime scene. Even the bathroom had anime playing on the TV, which honestly just made the whole experience even cooler. Our server was so sweet and made everything feel welcoming despite how busy it was. I've eaten in attack several times since it opened and it's always pretty good (if a little smoky in there). Today I was feeling a bit under so I got miso ramen for pick up. I'm not sure what broth they gave me but it wasn't miso. It tasted more like the curry broth. I also got 4 tiny cubes of tofu and for this to be the same price as the meat ramen options is really disappointing if that is the portion of tofu. Food first, thoughts after... After a run, my love and I stopped by to get take out. My my my this was such a treat. I love the stickers they used to identify the ramen and soup. Attack of the Katsu has a lot going for it, but my Tofu Katsu Bowl felt uneven in execution. The components were high quality and flavorful, but the ratios missed the mark. The tofu itself was very thick; the breading was excellent, so two thinner katsu-style tofu pieces would have created a better bite. The rice was well prepared and held together nicely, but the portion dominated the bowl. The katsu sauce was incredibly flavorful, though there wasn't nearly enough to match the amount of rice. I added three veggies to bring balance, and while the shiitake mushrooms were outstanding and the edamame well seasoned, each add-on amounted to only about a tablespoon of ingredients despite the extra cost. Great ingredients and flavor overall, just needs more sauce and refinement in portions. read more

In Chattanooga for a 3-day orientation, I had already been searching for local restaurants with solid reviews and great food. Japanese cuisine was on the radar, and when my buddy mentioned Attack of the Tatsu again, it instantly re-jogged my memory. I didn't even realize it was located downtown--beautiful area, very peaceful vibes all around. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted promptly. At first glance it looked quiet, but we quickly realized they actually have two separate lounge areas, which was pretty interesting. Then once we turned the corner, the atmosphere completely opened up. You could hear people enjoying themselves, and the energy immediately felt right. Our server greeted us quickly (if I remember correctly, her name was Mary). She was super attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. If you're unsure what to order, she'll gladly walk you through the menu and their to-go drinks. We had a few cocktails and highballs--strong, refreshing, and dangerously tasty. I had never had a highball before, and those pack a punch. For drinks, we tried the Apple-Plum Highball and Akuma Highball, along with an Old Fashioned and a Midori Yuzu Sour. Everything was made to order with fresh ingredients, and honestly, one drink is more than enough. We started with the Tsukemono (Pickled Mushrooms). They ask if you want them paired with vegetables, and I highly recommend saying yes. They came with carrots and daikon, each pickled differently. One had an herby note, and the other tasted like it might have been infused with fried garlic or something similar. A great, affordable appetizer. Next up were the Tempura Oyster Mushrooms--crispy, great texture, and paired perfectly with the Tatsu sauce. Our last appetizer was the three Katsu sliders, and I was in love at first bite. Crispy chicken, tangy katsu sauce, crunchy cabbage--small but absolutely mighty. For the main course, I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, and my buddy got the Katsu Curry Ramen. The broth was rich, silky, smooth, and packed with flavor. The pork was tender, the egg was cooked perfectly with a soft, slightly runny yolk, and the ramen noodles were cooked just right. Portion sizes were very generous across the board, and I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. My buddy attacked his ramen with full force and left no broth behind. If you're ever in Chattanooga, Tennessee and craving ramen, this is absolutely the spot to hit. You can't miss. I'd give the experience 10 stars if I could! I absolutely recommend and all the positive reviews are spot on! I can't say enough good things about the entire experience but even with the restaurant being absolutely packed, from the moment we walked in we were greeted and put on the waiting list. We were just going to get take out but the server in the front let us know it would be a short wait for a seat in the back. And it was! Less than 5 mins and we were seated. Everyone even on the way to our seats greeted us. We sat in the rear seating at the bar with Gracie as our server/bartender. She was absolutely fantastic! She was personable and recommended food and drinks to myself and husband that went with our tastes. Wonderful recommendations because it was all delicious! It was a very late night and relaxed environment. Loved the decor and atmosphere! This really could have went another way. We arrived and while it was full we were able to grab a seat rather quick in the front dinning area. Mac was our server and we placed an order for 3 ramen and a menchi katsu sandwich which we wanted first as an appetizer. I'm not sure what happened or what was going on but I watched 4 other groups who came after us get fried items including katsu sliders before we got our menchi sandwich. While I understand some items cook faster than others ours should have still went in the fryer first and if not come out first be very close behind. That was not the case. When the menchi sandwich came out it wasn't hot as if it just came out the fryer. Which for how it took is interesting. I shouldn't be able to immediately chomp down on something that just came out of a 350+ degree fryer. But of choice if was cold so we just accepted it so we didn't have to wait 30 plus minutes for another one. The kids got chicken broth ramen which had a very flavorful and well seasoned broth. They enjoyed it. Sadly the tonkatsu broth didn't get the same love. Tasted watered down and lacked the robust flavor that the chicken ramen had. I loaded it with soy sauce and chili oil but still needed to ask Mac for salt to attempt to waken up what flavor the broth didn't have. Which really still didn't do much. The pork inside the ramen was tender and juicy and the egg was well cooked. Finally was the matcha cheese cake. Which came out with 2 spoons for a group of 4. So I asked the bald heavyset server for a couple (2) extra spoons so we could share and he ignored me. So I said it again louder to assure he heard me and he rolled his eyes and walked away. He eventually comes back with a handful of spoons and sets them On the cheesecake plate like a childish fool. Absolute ignorance for no reason when asking for 4 spoons so 4 people can share a dessert is pretty standard request. Unfortunately for Mac her coworkers really ruined the experience and lacked the same hospitality that she brought to the experience. I'd even say it was 2 star based off the issues but I feel like Mac deserves better than that. read more

I've heard good things about this place for a while, so when the cards lined up I was finally able to try this out with friends. There's a parking lot out front but every single parking spot was full unfortunately. However there were empty parking lots further down where we just paid for parking. It wasn't a far walk at all. The four of us got seated immediately in the back area that was 21+. The vibes were very cool, there were a bunch of red lanterns hung up and created a hip and cool ambiance. Our water for the table was served in a repurposed alcohol bottle which I thought was neat. I ordered Kaarage, and the Katsu Curry Ramen with a chicken broth. I thought the Kaarage was okay, it was flavorful and . However I felt like I tasted more batter than the actual chicken itself per bite. I also tried some of my friends fries and they were delicious. The fries were crispy, tasty, and warm. Also the curry sauce was a great addition too. The Kaarage came with a garlic aioli type sauce that I preferred to pair with, and the combination was so good. It also came with a horseradish sauce that wasn't bad, I'm just not a huge fan of horseradish in general. For me, I have mixed feelings about the Katsu Curry Ramen. I thought that the broth was spectacular. It had all the flavors of the classic Japanese curry but combined with the chicken broth it tasted much lighter. The servers also gave me a spicy chili paste/oil on the side which was nice, but I barely added any to my ramen because the broth was perfect. The veggies in the ramen were good, the scallions added a nice pop of freshness to the overall dish. However the noodles weren't good. It seemed like they were overcooked and too soft. And don't get me wrong, I love a good soft noodle. However these noodles were way too soft to be enjoyable. I wasn't a fan of the noodle consistency. Lastly, I don't think I would sit in the back again. It was cool for a moment, but my eyes were hurting. I think the kitchen is a little open and there's no ventilation in there, because my eyes were so irritated. My friend felt the same way too. We were thinking of moving to another table in another area but the table would barely have space for all our food. Our server cracked the exit door open which I think helped a little, but I just wish we weren't suffering that long. Despite the disappointing noodles, the broth really impressed me. Attack of the Tatsu feels like a magical ramen shop straight out of Japan! The ambiance outside reminds me of a small local japanese town. Inside there are multiple different seating options available: outside, inside, 21+ back room. The outside is super cutesy with lanterns above head, inside there is plenty of natural bright lights with bar seating available. However the real moody-intimate setting would be the back room. It is dimly lit with red decor and lights, it is superb! Let's talk food now. The portion of the noodles is so so generous. They provide much more noodles than places like Jinya. The broth is also surprisingly flavorful, and tastes even better with the chili oils they have on the table. Not only that, everything is extremely fairly priced and the appetizer was very unique and delicious. 10/10 would come again!! Working Saturday at the office means the company buys lunch. This Saturday was a new one for me. I love Chicken Katsu so ordered the Katsu bowl. The chicken was crispy but the sauce had too much twang to it, like overkill on the Worcester sauce in the recipe. That high tang mixed with the red pickled made the whole dish too vinegar forward - yuk! The rice was nicely cooked tho. I hate my first experience was so disappointing but I would go to the restaurant again and try a ramen dish because it could have been a bad day in the kitchen. read more

Came back the very next day after work.. and let me tell you that was the best experience I've had in a long time.. They greeted me like they've known me for a long time. "Bones" and "Olivia" are really really great host. Those are the only two I know by name. But the whole staff was nothing less than perfect.! Had the vegan bowl, and few sake drinks that were really good! Came back today 9/25/25 to try the ramen and got a tempura mushroom appetizer that was really good as well! My daughter attends UTC, so she comes here often. She said it's her favorite restaurant in the area thus far, and insisted on us (her mom & dad) eating here.
