We visited Au Bureau to get out of the brutal heat, (3rd week of June 2026) and get a bite to eat before we reboarded our bus to Trier.( where we picked-up our Viking river boat). Very fun old style pub and restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was pretty slow, but I guess I can partially blame that on too few servers for the number of patrons that poured-in shortly after we arrived. BUT! They had the most DELICIOUS "red" cheesecake, and I reluctantly (but really happily!) shared it with my husband. It was gone in a flash it was so good. It took forever to get our check, even after several requests (busy, remember?), and I was worried we'd miss our bus! Luckily, it all worked out in the end. We made a stop in Reims on our way from Paris to Trier because of the old cathedral there. It is indeed impressive, especially when you consider how may kings of France were crowned there. We had time for lunch and patronized Au Bureau. This was not the best meal of the trip and our time in France. In fact, it was easily the worst. I can't really speak for the Tartines that our travelling companions ordered, but my Pastrami Club sandwich was simply bad and Ms D's Crispy chicken was not anything special. The Pastrami Club was made of the driest bread I have ever eaten. It was not bread that you expect in a country where bread is a religion. It was ordinary sandwich bread that was so dry it cut the roof of the mouth. The Pastrami was tasteless and nearly AWOL. The dressing or spread that was on it had no flavor and did not contribute to the sandwich. I was disappointed with this meal. It seemed like we were in a tourist trap near the cathedral. We were in Reims visiting the region and looking for a spot to have lunch nearby the cathedral. I have been to another location of "Au Bureau" in the past and everything went well but this location was horrible. We had a group of 10 and were placed on the outside terrace. Everything went well at first, the waiters took or order and came back with our drinks fairly rapidly. However, the waiter messed up some orders and most people in our group got their food quickly then two of us were left waiting for at least 45 min. Despite asking repeatedly about our food we were assured that it would come out soon. Everyone finished their meals and my mother and I were still waiting... so I went inside to seek the manager and he ran back to the kitchen, saw the food on the counter. He started yelling "where are my runners?" so I figured the food was ready but nobody cared to bring it to us. There was no apologies or explanations. Service patchy. Great blues music being played - all came up on Shazam but Apple didn't pick them all up later so I guess it was someone's own Spotify list??? But it wasn't too loud (see Cru Chanzy!) Caveat emptor - the veggie burger is a deep-fried cheese patty with delicious grilled vegetables tucked underneath. I intend this warning as an added bonus, because cheese makes everything better. But for y'all vegetarian purists - this is not a Boca Burger w/sprouts. It was remarkably tasty though, and Au Bureau adds their own sauce on the side in a ramekin... sriracha aoli w/added spices/herbs? regardless, it was delicious and better than ketchup for the burger's accompaniment of fries. Service is amazing (as has been my experience at most French establishments). Once I closed the menu the waiter was table-side. Oh, dined outside in the shadow of Notre-Dame de Reims... so it's got that going for it. read more

The restaurant had good food, we had the cheesy platter, Italian flatbread and the chicken roma, but we mainly went for the location and convenience to our place of stay. I would recommend this place for those looking for a reliable spot for lunch/dinner near the cathedral. read more

Although this place gets points for its location, in front of the beautiful cathedral, and the decent food, they handle the pouring and serving of beer atrociously. Even though, the Champagne Region may not have a beer culture, if you are going to sell Belgian beer from draught at outrageously exorbitant prices get your glasses right and get your pouring technique right! read more

Laid back service is the norm, but 2 hours to get a beer, soup and salad is too much. Ordered the meal and did not get the included dessert, since the waitress asked if we were ready for the dessert and walked away and never came back. Twenty minutes later, we chased someone down for the check. Other patrons seated after us ordered cooked meals and dessert and left while we were sitting there. Masterful French Inefficiency - came here on a Sunday afternoon as there were few options. Beer selection was great. But even for two very patient Americans, used to slow service being an art form, this restaurant beat out all the competition and deserves a medal for masterful inefficiency. Went in as it's one of the few restaurants in town with service continue for dinner. It was busy but we were served quickly; we had to wait some time to get our check as our waiter seemed to disappear for a while, but we were quickly taken care I after flagging down another server. The food was absolutely delicious. I got their basic hamburger and have to say it was one of the best I've had in a while, but note that it comes with a sundried tomato sauce so beware if you're not a fan. The portion was huge, meat was fresh and cooked to a perfect medium rare. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the entire restaurant, and drinks did not disappoint either. Would definitely recommend and will not miss the chance to go back if I find myself back in Reims. read more
