I was craving some Indian food so decided to check this place out this past summer... Our waiter was very friendly and told me they've been in operation since '79. He assured me they could make other plates that aren't on the menu so you just have to ask. I got butter chicken and it satisfied my craving. But I guess he didn't take me seriously when I requested spicy. Anyway I agree with other reviewers who said the portions here are smaller. All the food we had was good though. Two meat dishes, two naans, rice, and a mango lassi came to 40€. So why come here if it's a bit pricier and the portions are smaller? For the ambiance. It's a nicer-looking restaurant with beautiful decor throughout its intimate, dark space. Good for a date or dinner with family, etc. read more

I try to avoid writing yelp reviews but this place really earned it. I have never seen such a poor ratio of food portions to price in any restaurant ever. It is a complete rip off. The food is tasty but is at least 33% overpriced if not 50%. I can get the exact same meal for half the price at my local indian traiteur in fontenay-sous-bois where they literally microwave the food in front of you. It tastes the same as this for half the price. I don't know the full Indian food scene in Paris but this place is definitely overpriced/a rip off and definitely not outstanding culinarily in any way. Paris isn't particularly strong on Indian food -- it's no London for sure. But for Paris, this place is great. We found the recommendation through an Indian guy who lived in Paris for a while and kept coming back. They use very high-quality ingredients for the sauces. Every dish I've had there has been great, from butter chicken to lamb vindaloo. If you're looking for something spicy, you have to beg and plead. And then it will only be what I would call a little bit spicy. I hear that the red peppers are spicier than the green peppers, so I will be asking for those at my next visit. Gluten-free notes: Indian food is generally gluten-free, except for the breads though some are made out of lentil or chickpea flour (but naan is definitely off-limits -- no worries, you can have rice instead). This is the best Indian food I have every tasted, and I come from a town in the United States with a high Indian population. On two separate occasions, I had the chicken tandori, chicken biryani, palak paner, and the chicken masala (I apologize for spelling errors), and all were very, very good. My mom and I even managed to convert my Aunt over to Indian food! Also, the service is exceptional. When my mom and I walked in to order for take out, we were given an appetizer and a drink (both on the house) to have while we waited. And, when I told the waiter I was looking for ginger ale for my friend (to settle her stomach), he had some one run out and get some for me. Went here for dinner with five people. Pro: The server was nice and spoke English. He took our orders, and our food arrived on time. Con: extremely small portions that are about a third of a normal sized entree one can get at any Indian restaurant in America. The price was around 10-12 euros per entree. The entrees we got tasted well seasoned; however, the naans were burnt on the bottom. Bottomline I would not go again simply because of the disproportionate size and price ratio. read more

I've eaten in 50+ different Indian restaurants on three continents, so I've had quite a variety of Indian food. The food here is very good, and the service is quick and attentive. The atmosphere is also very pleasant, with classical Indian rajas playing in the background, low light, and intricate wood carvings covering almost every surface. I had a lamb biryani that was packed with flavor, very moist, and came with great sauce on the side. We also had Chicken Tikka Masala, which was good, but came with much less sauce than we're used to. Maybe two or three teaspoons in the bottom of the little metal bowl the chunks of chicken are served in. We're used to the chunks of chicken swimming in sauce, which is great to sop up with naan. We asked for the food to be spicy and it was spicy without being overpowering. On the downside, they served the naan first, which gave it time to get cold and dry while the rest of the food was brought. Then they served the appetizer at the same time as the main course, so the table was overflowing with dishes, and again, one or the other was going to get cold before you could eat both. Another thing was that some tables, including ours, were so close together I had to squeeze past a patron at the table behind us to physically get into my seat, and I'm a small, thin guy. read more

Chicken Jalfrezi and Chicken Tikka Masala were both very delicious! The portions are very small though, some of the smallest I've ever seen, but tasted great! Warning: they do NOT come with rice. It is an additional charge of 4 euros each. Overall, it was good quality food, but I will not be returning here because of that amount of food for the price. Also, if you plan of paying with a credit card, their machine is not reliable since my credit card that I always use did not go though on their machine. read more

I am an American college student fluent in French, doing a semester abroad in Paris. While I have the advantage that my friends and I speak French much better than the average visitor, at the same time, I tend to go places in big groups and speak English, which can definitely frustrate some servers, and cause us in turn to feel that they are condescending. Also while I do not know everything about Indian food, it's my favorite kind of food and after growing up in big east coast cities eating Indian I'm quite picky. This restaurant completely surpassed all expectations. This restaurant was overall a wonderful experience! Even though one of our party members was late, the server was quick to accomodate. I would disagree with those who said the portions were small--you just have to order a plate or two of rice for the table with your food, and even so, prices are quite reasonable for a Parisian dining institution with intricately-curated atmosphere. Often when I ask for very spicy food servers quite understandably do not believe me. I was so happy to find the food well spiced, with interesting and memorable flavors--their sauces are not generic at all, and the restaurant seemed to playfully incorporate traditional Indian dishes with their own flair. I ordered the chicken Korma, and I tried and loved my friends' chicken tikki masala as well. We ordered garlic naan, rice, and samosas (as an appetizer or entrée) for the whole table. All of the food was excellent and the samosas are a wonderful combination of tastes. To top of the meal, we had an incredible surprise. While I've sometimes met the managers of restaurants, it has always been with parents or family. As young adults, that just doesn't seem to happen very often. The owner of the restaraunt, Ray, actually came out and talked to all five of us, asking how we found our food and apologizing for not meeting us earlier. He then proceeded to give us all free after-dinner drinks of an excellent melon liqueur. He made sure to bid us farewell as we left too. All of this in addition to the wonderful food made us feel very welcome, a great feeling to have in a new city. We are looking forward to coming back! read more

The staff where friendly, the food was excellent and the cost was very reasonable. The restaurant itself looks quite unimpressive and the interior decor is dated and tired. We were the only customers there on a cold Thursday evening and I would say that we did not anticipate anything special. However the two vegetarian dishes we ordered were well prepared and as good as any we have tried at much more salubrious restaurants. The kebabs and naan were fine and the rice was freshly made. We would definitely return. read more
