A specialty dish that I don't know where else to find in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. This is a good place to sit and take your time. The service was very good. The staff dress in Swiss outfits. The raclette is simple but done well. Just a quarter of a cheese wheel to melt on meat, potatoes and bread. I highly recommend Meule & Caquelon. I will return to try their fondue options in the future.

A group of 4 of us decided to check out meule et caquelon on a Saturday evening . Our goal was to…read moretry Swiss raclette and fondue as part of our regular exploration of global cuisine that Ottawa and Gatineau has to offer . Without wasting much time here are the pros and cons of the place Pros 1. The experience : this is an experience tightly integrated with Swiss and Quebec culture and that's exactly what is being sold . Only that it is through delicious food and an unparalleled ambiance . Also to mention that this is a very family friendly setting and you see may Québécoise families gathering here for their weekly get together . 2. The space : the place is big enough to accommodate multiple groups of small medium large and very large sizes , complete with multiple rooms for family round table and corporate gathering 3. The parking : it's in a strip mall with a huge parking lot . But again don't let the entrance deceive you it expands sideways 4. Reception : you are received by the mascot and taken to your table . That personal touch 5. Service : knowledgeable , patient and takes you through a bit of history as well 6 kitchen : the kitchen is very clean and very professional 7 cheese : you dip in cheese here , multiple varieties with upgrade to aged once . Local and imported varieties are available . You may want to ask this to the server as all information is not reflected in the menu 8 AYCE weekdays - on weekdays they have all you can eat raclette and fondue , check them out , it's a killer deal Cons 1. Time : not a grab and go or smash and dash place , we spent a good 4 hours of wonderful Time with friends . There is no middle ground , the experience takes time 2. Food portions are huge so if you are strictly vegetarian you may feel left out in the group 3 Dessert : not many options , you are limited to chocolate fondue with fruit slices Now about the food we got I got the raclette with the steak and potatoes , comes with a complementary house salad . The meat was lean flavorful and thinly sliced . The highlight was the 4 kinds of sauces . My friends got a 3 course fondue meal which comes with house salad as well , this is a Chinese fondue where you cook the meat in a oil fondue and eat it with seasonings and sauces served to you

Unfortunately we were pretty disappointed. The price was very high for fondue but we were willing to give it a shot. But when the server brought out the fondue with a half inch of liquid on top and warned us we would have to stir the fondue a lot to keep it from splitting, we knew we were in trouble. I've never seen fondue split like that. There was an inch or so of runny milk on top and a gluey blob of cheese in the middle no matter how much we stirred. It was a shame because the flavor was pretty good but the texture gave me the ick. And the quality to price ratio was outrageous. We might consider trying them again for chocolate fondue but I wouldn't come back for cheese.

The fondue personally was good but not satisfying enough for a dinner alone. I actually preferred dipping the cooked meat and seafood from the other side of the table. It's a fun experience but for the price I wouldn't come back again.

The restaurant was quiet because it was Monday, a day that most restaurants are closed, and we really enjoyed the calm atmosphere where we could talk comfortably. We had the table d'hote ; as appetizers, we had a nice pate and my husband had the leek soup. For the main course I had the duck in a savory sweet sauce while my husband had the sautéed haddock . I could not have any of the dessert choices because of dietary restrictions and the chef made me a special dessert. Although we were visiting the Mt Tremblant area, we're glad we took the time to avoid the crowds and come to this charming establishment with its classic furnishings and nice terrace.

So I figured if I went out to place that specializes in cooking it it would be great but that wasn't the case. I went here on a Thursday which happened to be ladies night which meant that for 24$ there's was a fixed menu with a salad or soup starter a fondue and coffee or tea. The price was very reasonable and I liked that the fondu that came with it was a mix of chicken beef and shrimp. Where the problems first started for me were at the amount of time it took to order revive water and wait time between courses it took close to 3 hours from the time we walked in to the time we paid for the bill. I found myself starving between my salad and the actual fondu, and when I had to ask the waiter for more dipping sauce it didn't actually get to me until the meal was over. The actual proteins themselves for okay at best the broth itself lacked in flavour and I've had better stuff at home in my living room. The highlights of the meal were the starters and the side of potatoes that came with the meal For the price of the food and the wait time you have a lot of other better options :/

La Fonderie is compact resto, so space can be precious but it's pretty decor makes up for it... so ultimately they've managed to to create an intimate environment that are great for dates as well as group outings. At the end of the meal, I'd definitely lean more on the group thing. Their menu was a bit difficult to fully comprehend so we asked the waiter for our options, he expertly and very nicely given us some great options. He probably gets this A LOT. I ultimately went with their "Maitre-Boucher" "Feast meal" which consisted of a : 1. Entrée of Swiss Cheese Fondue 2. House or Caesar Salad with their Famous Toasted Garlic Bread (I went with Caesar!) 3. Chinese or Bourguignonne Fondue of your Choice (I went with Chinese! With Filet Mignon of Beef, Chicken Breast, Filet of Porc and Marinated Lamb!) 4. Choice of Dessert or Dessert-Coffee (I went with their Fruits!) 5. Regular Coffee or Tea or Herb Tea (I went with Regular Coffee!) The Swiss cheese fondue was very good, the bread that came it was addicting to say the least. I'm glad to report that no cheese remained and we had to push away those evil bread bites as far from us as possible. The Caesar salad was only OK, the salad was alright but the dressing was flavorless and watery. The Garlic Bread was ONCE AGAIN there to entice me. WHY MUST YOU TASTE SO GOOD BREAD? WHY?! SHOO! The meat was served in 2 beautiful platters with a nice variety of sauces that you can dip them in. I really liked this experience but as we ate it seemed to drag on. This might be more enjoyable with a group of people who can chat profusely while the meat cooks slowly in the bouillon/fondue. The meats were fresh, looked great and tasted amazing. The variety of sauces were good and refills were easy to get. My fondue dessert consisted of a few fruits like bananas, pineapples, strawberries and the such in a small pot of delicious chocolate. I believe I found a new love of bananas in hot chocolate. OH MAMA! The regular coffee was upgrade to a cappuccino and it was good. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive to us, I believe when we told him we were on a date night while our daughter was back home being babysat he went out of his way to be very accommodating. Nothing but praise here folks! The price-tag is pretty expensive, so this may not be something I'd do very often unless it's for a special event. I'd recommend to try this place at least once. A few bad notes. We waited 15 minutes when we came in, we had reservations but no one was manning the hostess desk. So our table sat unattended all this time. Oh and another note, the parking was difficult to find say the least. I had to make a spot with my SUV at the far end of the parking lot.

We started off with a bottle of wine which was great and than learned a bit about the menu. I decided to go with the cheese fondue with the beef which came with a salad and chocolate fondue at the end. With our cheese we decided to get some grison to dip with the cheese and it was fantastic never thought about doing it like that before but adding it to my fondue nights at home.
