I am pleased to be the first English speaker to review this wonderful gem of a restaurant. When I…read morefirst entered this restaurant, I felt that I had hit a true French restaurant. Unpretentious, (the name roughly translates to the "Table of the Market Salesman" friendly and warm, its all about having a good time. I very highly recommend this restaurant. Now, for some details . . . First thing you have to know, is that you must reserve a table in advance! This restaurant is very popular with the locals as well as the odd, well-informed tourist. I saw a few unhappy couples turned away due to the lack of space. The restaurant is truly a small gem and very much worth the visit if you can. The second thing you should know is that the hostess / owner / waitress, Isabelle speaks perfectly good English so language should not be a problem. Her partner, Marc resides mostly in the kitchen working his magic, but he did pop his head out from time to time to see that everything was all right. It was more than all right! Finally, what can I say about the food? My girlfriend had the appetizer of snails, and I had the appetizer of fois gras. The snails were amongst the best I ever had - and since the portion was abundant, served shelled and in a charming glass jar, my generous partner allowed me to sop up the remaining sauce after she had finished the actual escargot. Was it divine? It was divine. I'm a bit of a fois gras fanatic. It's hard to get here in the USA, and when you do, it's very pricey! At Isabelle and Marc's the fois gras was, literally, as good as it gets. It is served sautéed in a pan (not in a pate) with a wonderful side of fresh fig. I wholeheartedly recommend both these appetizers to anyone that wants an outstanding rendition of typical French fare. Our main courses were both wonderful and very memorable. Mari, in keeping with her non-meat preference had the fish, and I had the lamb. They were both wonderful!! Don't think that the French portions are small, we practically rolled out of the place and that's having split a dessert! One final counsel. . . if you can, have some of the eau de vie that they serve there. This is a very strong alcohol similar to vodka, but infused with whatever fruity thing they make with it. I had the pear and Mari had the apple. Wow! If you are familiar with these drinks, you will see that the quality of the eau de vie served here are truly outstanding. Overall, this was not just a great meal, it was a wonderful experience. Isabelle made us feel very much at home, like we were honored guests, not just tourists passing though. Everyone else at the restaurant was (at least) speaking French, and if you can read the French reviews, you will often see something to the effect that this is where the French go for their French food. Please go, and let me know what you think! Say "bonjour" to Isabelle and Marc for me!

This place was filled by 8:00 on a Tuesday night and no one looked ready to leave in less than two hours. When we entered just before 7:00 no other customers had yet arrived and most tables contained a "Reserved" sign. The gracious lady who seated us took the time to read the menu, including the specials, to us English-speaking folks. She even allowed us to sample two different Pinot Noir's so we got the one we both liked. Who even bothers to that nowadays?! My better half ordered the Escargots and the Cordon Bleu nature and I ordered the Spring Roll special and the L'onglet De Boeuf medium rare. Both starters arrived pippin' hot and were delicious. The American-sized entrees were as good as we have ever had. The potatoes, cauliflower, zucchini and carrots were amazing as were the shallots covering my perfectly cooked medium rare steak. It was an experience not just a meal. Though it took a bit of effort to find this fine gem in the Colmar maze, it was definitely worth it. Don't forget the reservation.

I met up with some American friends and we enjoyed one of the three course pairing dinners. We were a little rushed as they need the table at 8:30 which was surprising as usually they consider you have the table all night. We started out with a small appetizer which included fois gras (which was my first). Found out later that you are suppose to make a wish you for time, well that got wasted.. The rest of the meal was perfect. They assigned us a waiter who spoke English which was very helpful as we had no idea what we were eating. From my understanding the owner has changed direction here and has gone quite gastronomic. It was really special. Highly recommend. Must have a reservation.

We opted for the Prix Fixe menu as it was too tiring to ask for the entire menu to be translated and to enquire about food allergies. Amuse Bouche Starter: Foie Gras Main: Duck Burger Dessert: Strawberry Carpaccio The best dish was the foie gras starter this was neatly presented and gained an astonishing remark of 'this place was definitely worth trying' from a dining companion who rarely cares about food or where they should dine! The Strawberry carpaccio dessert looked carefully assembled was a light and refreshing dish to end the meal. The Prix Fixe menu at 38 euros was competitively priced. Service was professional, one waiter was able to translate the French menu sufficiently. As we were leaving I was amused to discover that I had been mistaken for an overseas food critic by the staff.

We made a reservation several weeks before. Which was a good thing, since they had to turn away several guests that night. Our English Bulldog was welcome here as well, which was very nice of them. The menu in this Michelin restaurant is compact, but has something for every taste. It's modern french cuisine I'd say. We ordered a glass of local Riesling with our starters. There was a complementary Amuse-Bouche. A kind of cream-puff, but savoury with a creamy, cheesy filling. A really tasty appetizer. For starters we chose the Galantine duck and foie gras and trout carpaccio. Both fantastic choices. Wonderful duck and foie gras (mi-cuit), matched the Riesling perfectly. And the trout (pink/orange) was better quality-wise than most salmon in any other restaurants we know. High quality, fresh, highly enjoyable. For the mains we ordered the Veal shank confit and the Milk-fed lamb shoulder. Both excellent dishes. A bottle of red with that . I know duck confit, but veal confit (72 hours) was new to me. What a tender, juicy piece of meat. Actually: Piece of art! And the sauce...heaven! Confit is something you need to try. And this place here would be perfect for that. But also the lamb was wonderful. Equally tender, very smooth and with a rich sauce. You wouldn't even know it's lamb taste-wise, it was just perfect. There wasn't any room for desserts after this rich meal. A really fantastic dinner in a wonderful restaurant with a classic and cosy setting. It was pretty packed, so the staff was pretty busy. But they were quick and attentive, just didn't really have time for a quick chat or so. Price-wise it was fair. Around 150 Euros for two glasses of white, a bottle of red, two starters and two mains. For this quality? I would actually even say more than fair. A great place.

Full disclosure, I'm not a gourmet and this was my first michelin restaurant, so I'm probably…read moreeasily impressed. I chose this restaurant as a stand in for Thanksgiving. It jumped out as a memorable experience. As you would expect the service was excellent, we were greeted at the door, our coats were taken. A table was ready for us, with a high chair for our baby. All of the staff worked well as a team and we dealt with everyone in the restaurant during our stay. In particular the server who took our orders was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. The wine server did well but I could tell was a little less comfortable communicating in English but did guide us to some excellent wine based on our preferences. The decor felt hip and fresh. Bright white with darker wood work, openings in the wall provide a small division of the dining area while making it feel open and airy. The silver wear and plates were simple which leaves the food the center of attention. The lighting is warm and there is a small amount of modern art decorating the walls. The food was all very precisely prepared. I like a variety of flavors and foods so the grande galleries with 7 courses suited me well. The courses are pretty small, if you order a la carts you get a slightly larger portion. For example I got a plate with 4 scallops, my mother in law who ordered that specifically had 5. The textures were the most incredible part, with soft oyster-like jellyfish, thick custard like flavor custard, frozen beet disks. A pair of hor'doerves accompanies the meal complimentary. There may be a few things that don't jive with a more conservative palat, but they also had a nice lamb shop and quails coquette that would satisfy most diners. Definitely pricey, I paid 89€ for the gallerie, but I felt the quality of the food and service were up to it. I'll let more refined goers make the determination about how it compares with other gourmet restaurants, but if you are a foodie that wants a fancy meal while you are visiting France, make the trip here.
