The front desk and back office really has their act together, very efficient. They promptly started the procedure, and made sure I was comfortable. The tech also gave very clear instructions during the IVP process. Everyone was very friendly and they provided excellent patient care. I knocked one star off because when they initially inserted the VERY large needle into my vein, they let a bunch of my blood spill onto the sheets which was kind of awkward. It sounds bad, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Other than that, no complaints.

When I arrived, I learned I had an outstanding bill I didn't know about. I was stressed, surprised, and admittedly irritated -- not at the staff, but at the situation itself. Even in that moment, the front-desk team handled everything with such patience and grace that it completely shifted the tone of the visit. They were calm, kind, and compassionate when they absolutely could have mirrored my frustration. Instead, they chose empathy. They chose understanding. They chose to treat me with dignity at a moment when I was overwhelmed -- and that meant more than I expected, especially since the bill was mine to take care of. I want to emphasize this because it matters: people always have a choice in how they treat others. These amazing women chose to elevate the situation instead of escalating it. I couldn't get up and down even a curb, my leg was aching even when it was elevated, and my cast was falling off. Great patient care, folks! (Yikes ) I ended up finding another PCP that could get me in within a few days of the 1st of the month. No compassion at all. Its sad that our medical care is so crappy and good care is not consistent and hard to find *sigh* As for the daily operations, without requesting it or having seen a doctor there, Vista Care sent my hubby a Cologuard box with instructions to send in a sample. Well, my hubby's proctologist previously told him that with his history, he has to get colonoscopies and that he should not rely on Cologuard! Seriously. What a waste of product, and it's now in the trash. Vista Care does not care about your health or you as a person. It's all about the number of patients they see per day and forcing products on patients whether or not they should be using it.

I was asked to strip down while the door was left wide open in view of the waiting room. He did not knock when coming back in, just sort of barged in. And he was commenting on my body in non-dermatology related ways. Secondly, and this is a big one - ZERO informed consent. Dr Hornbeck was more than willing to start procedures (that would knowingly have a long recovery time) without informing me as to why or getting my consent. He would just say "sit still" in an overly joyful tone, and I had to physically recoil and repeat "wait, wait, wait" just to get him to divulge any information, like what he was doing and why. This happened TWICE. And when I was nervous because of the lack of information provided, he and the nurse were making fun of how much I was sweating. Absolutely terrible experiences. Avoid avoid avoid.

He is very thorough and I trust his medical opinion. Dr. Hornbeck does his own pathology on biopsies, but he will send it out for a second opinion to another lab when necessary. He loves to talk politics, which I think is great! It puts you on a more personal level with your doctor. Some people may not like this, but what else are you going to talk about during your head to toe examination? It makes me feel more comfortable anyway. Dr. Hornbeck also practices dermatology in New Zealand. He travels there a few times a year, however, he told me today he was trying to cut down on it. The cost and the constant traveling is getting to be too much. And trying to manage practicing medicine in two countries is exhausting! He runs a busy practice and sometimes he's running a bit behind. He is a good doctor and that happens. I am usually done and out within an hour; that is for a full skin check and two biopsies.
