Wish I had had more time to browse at Auburn Old Town Gallery today. It is a coop for local artists -- and even better than I remembered! I was impressed with the quality and range of art work. Auburn Old Town Gallery is one of my favorite places in Old Town. It is an art collaborative that showcases and sells artwork from over 50 local artists. The art ranges in various media... woodwork, jewelry, paintings, sculpture, glass, ceramics, etc. The price points vary from under $10 for postcard prints to upwards for original pieces. I entered the Auburn Old Town Gallery today prepared to support the local artist community as I am wont to do a couple of times a year. I donned my mask because of a condition that would cause severe illness should I contract a respiratory virus. I was greeted my two women that told me that 'this was not a bank and I should not rob them'. They both thought this was high humor. I assume they were referring to my mask. I was surprised that I would be the victim of such an uncaring and unfeeling comment. It did cause me to leave very shortly thereafter, and upon leaving I took off my mask as I was going outside. Again, I was provided with a sigh of relief from the two women and that 'they could see me now'. Suffice it to say, I will never return. This is indeed unfortunate as I always want to support the local art community. Since this is a cooperative, I would question why such people are permitted to work there. read more

Excellent selection of works by local artists in different media. Great place to find unique gifts that the recipients will treasure.

My son and I went into the gallery looking for one specific thing--a painting of Auburn or of our local terrain--to be given as a gift. This gallery has a variety of artwork from local artists. Some are jaw droppingly intricate and realistic. Others are whimsical. This gallery allows you to support local artists while spending any range of money. If shopping at an art gallery seems daunting to you, you can start small. I am done buying $5-10 Hallmark cards at grocery stores when I can buy cards here. There are so many neat finds and styles by our talented local artists there! read more

This gallery features local art and artisanal works. Most are not eternal masterpieces, but both I and my wife were shocked at the quality of most pieces. The works were not fundamentally shocking or unconventional, but they were very well executed. Maybe I'm jaded, but I don't think of the local, kinda small-town showcase as having to many excellent works. There were many very good sculpture pieces priced far, far under what they were worth. The paintings were good. Some technically were very good, but my tastes run towards the less conventional. Very good photographs as well. I was cursing myself for still being a pathetically poor student. Many excellent pieces of different forms were UNDERPRICED but not cheap. There was one bird bath in particular that was at least 50% below what its price should have been in a more metropolitan area. There are more artists listed at the web site (www.auburnoldtowngallery.com) than I remember. Again, this is a local gallery. Don't expect every piece to be world-shattering. But we encountered some shocklingly excellent pieces on our visit . The physical pieces were the best by my feeling, but that's easy to say without the artists present. Definitely worth a stop if you're travelling between NV and CA on I-80. read more

Gorgeous work! There is a diverse selection of art, all of it crafted with care & creativity. Auburn is a great spot to day trip to. Came here in the evening. This place is really a hidden gem. So many interesting art work and really has diversity. People here are so friend and welcoming. Will come back next time stop by Auburn. read more

Very nice gallery with a variety of art: sculptures, glass works, jewelry, photography, paintings and more. The owners are very nice and it's a fun place to visit. Parking was pretty easy and the prices are more than reasonable. read more

This gallery will surprise you with its diversity and quality. I'm a jewelry aficionado and found many pieces that were top drawer and unique. Definitely worth a visit regardless of your art/craft interest. read more

Fun place. Nice selection of unique art pieces...some one of a kind. Great place to buy gifts of the 'non-touristy' kind for yourself or friends. I found an absolutely beautiful pottery sculpture way way cheaper than I would have paid in Sacramento...and the quality of design...amazing. Certainly worth a visit. Beautiful handcrafted items. Many are 'one of a kind' which makes for truly unique and special gifts. There are paintings, pottery, jewelry and some clothing. But since items are handcrafted, merchandise changes frequently, so it's hard to say what specifically you will discover. We've bought some lovely jewelry pieces and well as pottery. Because they are all hand crafted, we know our friends have something they aren't going to see again at one go their local gift shops. Prices are reasonable. read more

Great selection of local artists that work in all kinds of mediums. Bought a small glass dish for next to the sink to put my rings in but there were some really unique things there. Of particular interest to me were the small paintings of fly fishing ties (if my dad was still around these would've been a great gift) and the wall hangings where the artist used watch pieces to make things such as a dog ("watch dog") or a gun ("time piece")! ha! read more

Greatest gallery around. So many fresh ideas from so many wonderful artists. If you haven't visited this gallery you are really missing something special. It is worth stopping to see all the wonderful art work, you will love it. The artists run this gallery, so you may get to meet artists and learn how the artist does their art work. I've been to my fair share of art galleries around the country and I rank this one above most others. My reasoning is this: In my opinion art should be accessible to everyone who wants to investigate it. Many private galleries have a pompous quality to them. You walk in and expect to see a guy decked out in Banana Republic swishing and spitting a glass of Cabernet while listening to his own review of a white canvas with an orange dot on it. And the other galleries who aren't arrogant still feel self-absorbed, as if the art they currently have is the most special there is. Where is the humility? The Old Town Gallery has checked their ego at the door, and what's left is a group of people who love to share, talk about, and sell art. It's as simple as it gets in my opinion and it's refreshing. Although I did not pick up any pieces on my first visit, I will be returning in the near future to do some shopping. read more

I agree with what everyone else said, the art was extremely diverse so everyone should find at least one thing they can't live without!

My daughter and I bought a felted stuffed animal here 2 weeks ago. By the time we got home the foot had fallen off. Very poor quality. I went back to the store to try and see if they would exchange it. I was told ALL SALES ARE FINAL. The rude sales associate gave me the artists card and told me I had to take it up with the artist. I didn't buy the piece from the artist I bought it from the gallery. Don't shop here they don't stand behind the quality of their work. read more
