Here's a great place to spend some time and hike though the woods. The Aullwood Audubon includes a nature center, educational farm and farm discovery center and a 200 acre nature sanctuary with 8 miles of walking trails. And it's dog friendly as long as they on a leash. There are also 3 huge trolls to see along with various art pieces here and there. You can park and enter off of Frederick Pike (farmhouse) or off Aullwood Road off of Route 4 (Education Center). As of 4/26/25 admission was: Children 3 & under - free Age 4-12 - $8 Age 13-64 - $12 Age 65 & over - $10 It's so worth it! As Arnold said, 'I'll be back!' read more

What a lovely space. I had to change plans a little because part of the trail was flooded, but that worked out well - that forest trail to the middle troll was way steeper than I expected it to be (I don't hike, so don't let that stop you, the final destination is worth it). I was able to see one troll from the nature center path, and the volunteer there did a great job helping me plan the visit (and warned me away from some poison ivy patches they were dealing with the next day). And then I drove to the farm area to see the other two trolls in a much less muddy manner. The farm space is also really nice, and comes with goats in desperate need of more pets, so obviously you should go help them out. read more

It's a nice peacefully area. There is a charge but this connects to a farm so I would assume it takes money to feed and care for all the animals. I grew up on a farm so that isn't something I would come to see. the forest and birds and flowers are more my thing. They put in troll statues that are huge and interesting. Its worth the visit but I think the cost is high unless you want to go to the farm. I totally get that all those animals need food and vet care. But lots of farms in Ohio so not sure that is something people are into seeing. Love the trolls ... several troll statues. They are amazing. Great to get in nature. read more

Great place to spend a couple hours, esp on a hot day. The trees envelope the path and keep everything comfortable. Staff at center were welcoming and friendly. I loved that they took the time to explain the layout. As a first time visitor it was much appreciated! We read the story and proceeded down the trail to visit the trolls. It was a perfect day and Thomas Dambo is extraordinary with his craft. We enjoyed the park, the creek, the farm and the centers. read more

I enjoy the Aullwood Audubon, but the cost for a family can be expensive even the family membership is quite pricey. For what you get - The Trolls, the farm, and the hiking trails it honestly isn't worth more than one maybe two visits. Dayton has so many amazing hiking options that are free that this is definitely a once maybe twice visit. The Trolls are awesome and super fun. We loved them and had a blast checking them out the first time and even the second time we went. I do find they need better trail markers and maps. I know they've been doing a lot of work on the trails in the last year so this could have already changed. The Farm area was cute. They had some animals and some fun things the kids could do. One thing to note is the last Troll is over on that side and it's not connected in a way that is easy to see at first. Both times we went it was busy so it was easy to see where to go by the crowds. Definitely worth a visit, but for the price I personally can't justify going more then I have already. read more

It was a rainy Sunday and my husband wanted to surprise me with an adventure. We walked up to the visitors center and the woman at the front desk asked us if we were there to see the trolls. "Trolls?" I thought, "What the hell?" I think it was twelve dollars a person to enter the park but after spending multiple hours walking the trails and exploring, I think it's worth it. The weather was dark & gloomy, damp and a bit rainy. Conditions were not ideal but that usually makes for the best adventures. We entered an open field and that's where we found our first troll. It was this beautiful, tall wooden structure towering over us almost ready to take flight. Finally understanding why my husband brought me here, a childhood excitement to find all the trolls took over me. We spent many hours walking the trails, wandering around the farm and of course, finding trolls. read more

I spent an afternoon here with my stepdaughter celebrating my birthday in July. We had an amazing time exploring the trails looking for the hidden trolls. She's 8 years old but still really enjoyed the atmosphere and adventure of looking for the installations. I couldn't believe how large these were, and it made hiking. Extra exciting! And unexpected surprise was the fairy garden which we both enjoyed a lot. It's a small loop with hidden "fairy" homes themed after animals native to Ohio. They give a worksheet for you to guess the animal each fairy house is representing. If you get them right, you win a prize! This was so much fun and I couldn't believe how creative these little homes were. After we hiked, we made sure to check out the farm as well. This is an inexpensive activity that is great for a whole family. We can't wait to go back next year! read more

I had been looking forward to spending a few hours at this center for awhile now. Today with temps in the 70's, clear blue sky and leaves displaying their beauty turned out to be perfect! The staff was helpful and clearly explained how to get to each troll, we started at the center and walked. Paths are hiking trails but mostly clear and easy to manage. The trolls are a must see. The farm was fun to explore. The map was necessary as not every intersection is clearly marked. Choosing a weekday was a plus. Yes, there is an admission charge but knowing it helps nature makes it more than okay with me. read more

We had a nice, albeit short, visit to this park today. Very nice visitors' center and well-marked trails. Particularly pretty on a beautiful fall day. A little crowded with the great weather, perhaps going to be one of the last pleasantly warm days before winter rolls in, but everyone was in fine spirits. Troll sculptures were the main attraction today and they did not disappoint. We will be back to visit them again in another season. read more

Yes it is doable to see all 3 trolls and a nest in 1.5 hours despite the suggested 3... yes it is doable to do the trails in Birkenstocks. However if I had used my brain tennis shoes would have been better because there were some slippery muddy parts, and I wish I had left more time and not felt rushed and actually enjoyed the nature a bit more. I highly suggest getting the map from the desk when you check in, but honestly it was a bit hard to read so thank goodness the park had a 5k route posted and arrows posted to get to the 3 trolls. Over all a great stop, great nature meets art experience. Dog did great, child did great. Loved this excuse to stop in the middle of Ohio since I usually attempt to pass through without stopping. read more

Went and visited the trolls on a perfect weathery day! I had never heard of this park before and was excited to find out they had the troll sculptures there. So many people I know in other cities were telling me about them and I was curious to see how large they were. The structures didn't disappoint. However, trying to find them was a little challenging. It would have been helpful if there were signs on the pathway that said, "This way to see this troll.." for all the trolls. I think we might have missed one of them. But regardless, they were very cool and the park itself was a good size to get around in less than 2.5hrs. read more

This place is so freaking cool!! They give you a map and you walk the trails to see the "nest" where they are born and then find Baby Bibbi, Dad Bo and Mom Bodil. I'd recommend comfortable shoes and at least 2 hours if you walk the whole trail from start of Center to the Farm and back. Trails are marked and you have a map if you need it. This is through wooded area and not paved so it may be hard for some to walk it. You can start at the Center and see some of it, walk back and drive to the farm to see the rest without walking the 3 miles all at once. read more

EXCELLENT area resource!! Take yourself, your kids, your friends and neighbors... VISIT this very informative, wonderfully set-up nature center, and WANDER the beautiful surrounding trails. We went recently on one of the hottest, most humid days of the summer (they had a free open house) and in spite of the heat, this place just can't be beat!! (Look, I'm a poet now...!!) TONS of great info and hand-on activities for the kids (and adults!!) would make the indoor learning center a great rainy day destination, and the very well-kept up and easily walkable trails, leading to a farm and some other attractions we'll have to wait until next time to see, were great as well. I imagine there are tons of school trips here, and great activities for homeschool kids as well. Plan to spend a full day here... Or more!! Our only disappointment was that they close relatively early at 5pm. We'll be back!! :-) read more

If you like nature, this is pretty cool. They have a live farm you can walk around with animals as well as miles of paths. This is good for any wildlife lover and I suspect is very good for kids. Admission is $4.00 for adults, but I'm not sure they enforce it. read more

Aullwood is a fantastic farm and nature center near the airport in a most beautiful section of the woods. We found out about them through searching for something to do, and seeing an advertisement about an "Apple Fest" they were going to be having. We didn't quite know what to expect, but adventure called, and we were absolutely blown away at what was waiting for us! Aullwood seems off in the country, off the beaten path if I may, and once you're there, you cannot help but feel transported to a better time a place, where the world is at peace and life is good. They have miles of beautiful trails for hiking, an organic garden bursting with fresh fruit, veggies and herbs (oh my!) happy chickens with even happier eggs for sale, and free range meats for sale. They have goats for the kiddos to get up close and friendly with too, plus so much more. This place is a kindergarteners paradise! During Apple Fest, we were able to watch as our son fed apples into the cider press to make fresh cider and then tried a sip, it was absolutely delicious! Just around the corner apple pies were being made out on a grassy hill, their decadent sweet smoke from the open fire beckoning to all within smelling-range! There was a man dressed as Jonny Appleseed handing apples to kids as they walked with their parents, fun kids crafts booths, vendors a'plenty, bushels of apples for sale from local farms, beautiful handmade candles and painted rocks, home made goodies, and more that I am certain my Mommy brain failed to notice amidst all the amusement and merriment! We joined the "Friends of Aullwood" membership that day, and our ticket prices were deducted from our membership fee. The membership allows us free entry into the center and farm during operating hours all throughout the year, including most events. We like to make it a bi-monthly excursion at the least, taking to the trails rain or shine. They are always open, even in storms! It's such a beautiful peaceful place to go. At the center (a different building than the farm) you can find things such as a glass beehive for kids to watch as they go about their business. They have a gift store filled with beautiful and delicious things, kid-friendly exhibits and animals to pet. Seriously, too much to list here! Just know if you are looking for a family fun afternoon, any day at Aullwood promises to be a beautiful entertaining treat for everyone. read more

I attended a wedding here in the convention center area and everything was beautiful. I'm sure a lot of it was the decorations, but the animal exhibits outside in the main area were a nice addition to the celebratory atmosphere. The wedding was held just outside in a unique stone circle, with rocks jutting out here and there. There was a deck overlooking that wedding spot, and it that was attached to the convention center area where the reception was held. What a great venue for a wedding! read more

Aullwood Audubon - Parks Near Me - Dayton, Ohio

I was asked to speak here a few weekends ago and found the place to be very endearing. The Center is located in Dayton near Englewood and smack in the middle of a huge forest with an adjacent praire. Before entering the center's grounds, I drove a huge suspension bridge and got a look at the intact riparian forest. It was beautiful. I was a speaker for the winter lecture series that runs from Jan-Mar on Sundays and there were about 75 people in attendence, mostly birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The center looks like an old farm house which it originally was before its remodeling a few years ago. Inside you will find exhibits about the habitat and animals of the grounds, a nature store, three classrooms, and a large conference room. It is a little hokey but the sentiment grows on you as you walk through the space. I had a little time to walk the trails and even though it was cold did a little creeking in search of early salamanders. No luck. I took the trail to the organic farm and saw a few cows but not much else was going on this time of year. Admission is just a few bucks and worth it. The center staff is very kinowledgeable and offers classes in nature study and trips to places like the Everglades and other national parks. Tomorrow is the annual pancake breakfast which also features a hike out to tap some maples. Good clean fun. read more

We went to the Farm Babies Fest today. All was great until the Wagon ride people decided to close early while we were in line. You can imagine the unhappy children. I hope that in the future they will consider using another tractor to shorten the lines and so they don't have to turn people away. read more

I went to the nearby Aullwood Gardens as the Audubon Center was closed. (They actually touch each other if you go far enough into either one.) Unlike the center, the gardens are free to visit and don't close until dusk. I had a great time exploring as the gardens are much larger than you might expect from a first impression. read more
