When there is a storm, this place will stay open. I found out a few weeks ago when there was a Tornado warning and Galveston Shrimp Company closed for the day. I get about 15 jumbo, deveined shrimp here for $5-$6. You can taste the freshness. I passed by many times but never stopped 'til my usual was closed. The staff is nice. Usually a guy around 50 or a teenager will wait on you. The customers I have run into were nice also. There is a food truck that sells fried shrimp outside. The food there has no seasoning so just buy it fresh and cook it at home from Aunt Margie's. I think the food trailer is called Darlene's. Not sure. Been a while since I tasted it but it wasn't worth the money. This place also has live bait if you are going fishing and a few tourist items like hats and so forth. The shrimp are healthy, and move like Jagger when they see the net coming. Put shrimp on hook about a foot under the water surface under a popping cork, and wait for the pop sound, which to guys, means drink, eat, repeat, and later perhaps take a nap. Naps can be longer if you let the bait stealer fish take the shrimp. Don't worry about the nap secret, guys. After the previous paragraphs, the wives probably stopped reading. 6. Keep enough big bait shrimp in case you don't catch any fish, and then you can come home and say "great treat tonight, Honey ... boiled shrimp for dinner"! TERRIBLE SERVICE! nothing but prick kids being assholes, as soon as we walk in they tell us "we don't have any live bait rn" not even a hello, good afternoon, nothing. We went in and they didn't have a lot of dead shrimp it looked to be the last of it and I was telling my bf and my dad they didn't have a lot of dead shrimp left and they were all small and the heads were already falling off. Well apparently they had another cooler in the back but instead of stopping their conversation he interrupted mine saying what do you mean we we don't have dead shrimp we have a whole cooler in the back and him and his co worker proceeded to laugh about it and not in a joke way it was more of a "are you dumb" laugh. Like I get it man you work at the bait shop it doesn't mean you are the god of fishing bro. I then look at my bf and my dad and say "let's go, we aren't buying bait here" and proceeded to walk out. We then went to bayou tackle. How dare y'all treat yalls locals like that? We keep y'all in business YEAR ROUND! the boat captain goes out of his way to make sure that the bait he supplies is good, if that means going up to the Houston ship channel's then that's what he does but when he's out working hard his team in his shop are representing him poorly we will not be returning to aunt Margie's nor will I recommend it to customers at 91st pier. GO TO BUYO TACKLE at least there, they give you the respect and courtesy you deserve! read more

I called Margies after passing it (didn't turn in because there were no flags flying) and asked if they had live shrimp; which they did so I turned around and went to get a pint or two. The staff was absolutely amazing and being the inexperienced young fishers we are, we're more than happy to receive the many tips the guy was giving us. very impressed with the hospitality & kindness of this place. the shrimp they gave us caught many fish! definitely stop by if you want good service & good bait!!! read more

We went in for fresh Gulf shrimp. The lady who works there slipped in some shrimp from Florida. She said she was going to do it and we asked her not to. We said we want local only. Well she did it anyway and they were awful. The Florida shrimp were a different color so they were easy to tell from the local shrimp. Also, they were squishy and just seemed like they were on the verge of going bad. Next time we will go a few doors down where the owner is a little more honest. read more

Where to start with this place? I've been to Aunt Margie's on several occasions, and I will not be going back for the following reasons: 1) The staff. I've encountered two individuals working at this place in my three trips. One guy, a bit younger, I saw twice and he was about as personable as a foot. No help, no tips, no advice for someone new to the area. The other guy looked like Santa Claus and wouldn't stop telling us about how drunk he was going to get once he got off work, with every 6 or so words an f-bomb. Specifically, at one point he said "f*** this place if they think they'll keep me from drinking". I understand this is a bait shop, but I've seen better employees at gas stations and adult novelty shops. 2) The staff, again. Twice now, when getting shrimp for live bait, my bucket has included sea robins and crabs. I haven't had this problem at other baitshops. I'm concerned because crabs and sea robins are both capable of inflicting some damage on some unsuspecting fingers. 3) Reliability. Today, I drove 2-1/2 hours to Galveston from my hometown, leaving at 4:00 am in the hopes to have my line in the water before sunrise. I was counting on Aunt Margie's for live bait. Called their location while at Bucees around 6 to confirm that they were open; their voicemail indicated that their hours Sunday - Thurs had changed so that they now opened at 5 a.m. The voicemail ended with a reassuring "We'll be here!" "Great!" I thought, and headed that way only to find the lights off, no cars present in the lot, and doors locked. Thank you, Aunt Margie, for throwing my carefully planned trip into a hectic "wtf do I do now for live bait" scenario. I won't be visiting this place again, ever.
