The owner, Sandy, was quick with communication when I had questions about what to expect. Her home is very large with several guest rooms, some with private restrooms. The common areas have large TVs with cable and several dvds to choose from. There's a pool table, a grand piano, and a pond with a doc and kayaks for guest use. Everything you'd want in a BnB with a lovely host that made us feel very welcome!

Words cannot truly express how awesome this venue is. First, it is picturesque with two old…read morefarmhouses, a carriage house (both for lodging), a small indoor event space (lodging on the first floor), a pavilion housing a large event space, a church/chapel and a one-room schoolhouse. Second, Deb, the manager/innkeeper, is an angel! She never batted an eye at the fact that we are a same-sex couple which meant the world to us and she helped us plan for weeks ahead to make our stay and our wedding reception perfect. She and her family worked so hard to make everything just right and to make sure we had everything we wanted. Her daughter even made our cake! This is the perfect place for a wedding and would also be great for a family reunion or even just a small group getaway. You don't have to rent out the entire property if you don't need it. The only criticism I would give is that the whole place needs a little maintenance and a coat of paint, but even that couldn't mar the beauty.

Traveling here on business, this is a wonderful alternative to the several local hotels. With a motto of "Come here as a guest, and leave as family." -- it's more than true after my 3-day stay. Super comfy bed, and very quiet -- I slept just great! Lots of extra blankets and pillows if needed. Each room has the comforts of your own TV with cable, but I felt more than welcome to be downstairs in the main room with the big-screen TV, a large fireplace, and lots of seating/recliner choices. Free wifi/internet is provided. For breakfast, Carol and Ron both chip-in and provide an excellent breakfast. There are 4 or more choices to choose from, and the night before - just place your order and time - and it'll be ready. I recommend Carol's special scrambled eggs (bacon, cheese, peppers, onions) - awesome! Because of the time of year, it didn't happened to have many other guests. The one downside - it has a shared bathroom. There are several bathrooms within the lodge, so I guess it wouldn't be too much of a problem. The highlight of the time spent here was getting to know the very sweet people of Ron and Carol. They are warm, open, kind, and generous people who are in the right business of serving others and sharing their home.

The room was well decorated and so clean that we were convinced we were the first to stay in the rooms. Upon talking to the owner we learned that she just loves what she does. There were also some sweet touches like Odwalla juices and popcorn and a yummy breakfast. I highly recommend this place for couples, friends or anyone looking to stay in a sweet charming town....especially if you are a Bridges of Madison County fan.

We stayed in rooms #3 and #4. Loved the decor in both rooms and it was nice to have a small kitchenette in each room as well. Breakfast was excellent during our stay and delivered promptly to our room. They had treats for snacking as well as a refrigerator filled with a variety of drinks. The hospitality was outstanding. Winterset is the town where the movie "The Bridges of Madison County" with Meryl Strep and Clint Eastwood was filmed. The B and B was also in the movie as the motel where Francesca's children stayed when they come back for her funeral. Neat experience to stay there as we are big fans of the movie. Also, Winterset is the birthplace of John Wayne and a nice museum is also in town honoring him and his acting achievements. Thanks to our excellent hosts, Justin and Johna for a wonderful stay!

Called and Roger was able to accommodate us for our anniversary dinner at the last minute. There was one other patron, a regular, who was super fun to talk and share some stories with. He stated that Roger had the best steak ever, but he was out of them for the evening so we intend to come back and give it a try another time. Our chicken Alfredo and baked salmon were fantastic. We honestly could not recommend a better experience and were so glad we chose to take a chance and not go to the steakhouse 20 miles down the road as recommended by our hostess.
