I've never been to a rink where they didn't have one or more staff members skating on the rink to ensure safety and enforce rules. They didn't have any staff members anywhere near the rink. And they needed them! I hope they have good insurance! (though they had us sign a waiver before entering, which is the only time I've experienced that at a rink.) It wasn't crowded on the Sunday afternoon that we went, but it was really hard to skate. One kid going the wrong way around the rink, kids and *adults* cutting across the rink instead of going in an oval. One young teen stealing the skate assist device from his younger siblings and then zig-zagging across the rink while they tried to chase him to get it back. One guy doing his dance moves across the path of traffic - dude, go in the middle or a corner! One man standing in the path of traffic doing things on his phone. And then the usual of kids cutting across. The rink also doesn't have a wall around it, which means at any moment someone might decide to cut across as they enter or exit the rink. I'm a good skater, but multiple times I had to skate off of the rink to avoid crashing into someone behaving badly. It made it so not fun. And when people fell down, there was no staff to check they were ok or help them up like at other rinks. I would have given it one star, because I really just didn't want to stay (and I often stay for multiple hours at rinks), but there were some good things. The floor was good, and the price wasn't bad. There were plenty of places to sit. Music was decent though loud. There was a separate little rink for beginner skaters. We were there for the second half of an afternoon session and there were no games or couples skate or anything, and I didn't see any way to request your favorite song. I had to try 3 times to get a decent rental skate (first time they gave me the wrong size, second time one skate had a wheel loose), and the laces were messed up still. There are rinks that are more fun.

After only 5 minutes of being on the floor they call the end to the previous session and say that everyone there for the 8pm-10pm session which was us needed to be wearing their wristbands. No big deal except that the staff working the front door didn't give a single person in our group of 20 people a single wristband. Thank goodness we kept our receipts to prove we were allowed to be in that session. The blonde lady with glasses and straight hair who seemed to be either the owner or manager was clearly on a power trip, micromanaging every single patron both adult and child. The young girl with brown hair & glasses in the DJ booth was quite possibly the worst DJ I've ever heard at any skating facility in my life. Listening to a radio station with commercials would have been better. They played random song clips that were literally about 5 seconds long each before changing to the next 5 second long music clip. This went on for an agonizing 10 minutes. When asked what was going on with the music they said they were waiting for someone to request songs. They went from random clips to what sounded like really bad knock off teeny bopper songs. To top it off, no one in our group could understand what she was saying as her speech was very slurred as if she was drunk but we could clearly see she was NOT drunk... if she has a speech issue she shouldn't be on the microphone as we we're all confused about what she was saying every time she spoke. A child that seemed to be a "regular" there or possibly friends or family of the establishment made a false accusation that a mother in our group cussed at him. The owner or manager lady proceeded to question a child in our group asking her if "she had a problem" due to that false allegation. Then the accuser exclaimed to the owner/manager lady that she had the wrong group member. The mother in our group set the story straight but was not pleased with the way the owner/manager lady handled the situation. There was a ton of debris on the floor tripping skaters. My group alone picked up at least 4 items that were tripping us. We had brand new socks worn for the first time at the skating ring but in the end we threw away all of our socks because they smelled so extremely bad. I don't think they spray the skates with antibacterial spray....and if they do they definitely don't use enough of it or don't use a quality brand- possibly all of the above. She kept telling everyone to slow down like 30 times while we were there which was irritating. They should just tell the faster skaters to stay on the outside and tell the slower skaters to stay closer to the center. The only reason this place is still in business is because there is no other local option.

Nice clean shower house and quiet neighbors. The tent camping spaces even have electricity. Very affordable!! Beautiful scenery. Historical markers, like the old train depot. They have a skating rink and hotel/resort also; but we only stayed in the campground. Firewood is available for purchase. We checked in and payed online so we were able to go straight to our site and set up, never saw anyone. Highly recommend and would stay again. Be sure to follow the direction instructions provided on the website and booking info, to stay on blacktop roads. Otherwise it's a lot of long dirt roads. Nearest town is just a few miles away for groceries.

The campground is beautiful, even if the sites a really cheek by jowl. They cater to children and family groups and have plenty for them to do, including a real life wood floor roller skater rink. They have let their large pool fall into ruin, which is unfortunate. They have a hotel on the site and there are rooms but I would shudder to stay in the place. It sits nearly on top of three mineral springs (the place has been famous since the 1880s for "taking the water." It would be damp and dank. I love the location of course, but would do major refitting and repair of the foundation and the concrete work and stonework. Major gardening would have to be done and the whole structure would need to have some kind of central dehumidification system. It reminded me of Harper's Ferry. So much water everywhere and lots of mold and dankness. I heard many barred owls last night, Pony Creek is right behind me. Lots of large trees and green grass. And some loud, large family parties of course. There is a wedding going on in one of the structures on the property called "the barn." They also had a rail depot moved here and also a white clapboard church. There are no laundry facilities so I had to go into town to use the coin laundry. I think they've figured out who their clientele really is--family groups who will just stay one or two nights, and then go. There is no real effort to entice long-stay or semi-permanent campers, which is what a KOA would very much try to do. Unfortunately a large family group talked loud and vulgar until 1 AM when a rain shower drove them inside. Site #46, you know who you are. One of their group was in a pop up trailer next to me and the man and woman, both drinking about a case of beer between them bawled and smoked and cursed. The cursing and drunken laughter got louder when they went to join the larger group next door to them. How the utterance "Gets smacked in the fuckin' dentures every time" is a punchline to a joke or the high point of a story, I have no idea. I had no cell phone signal and the owners do not live on site. I had no way to call anyone and was not about to take on a large group of drunks on my own. Damned if they didn't start up again at 7:30 AM with my "couple" drinking beers and talking loud. The woman bawled a few unintelligible questions at me and I smiled and said nothing. Got out of there as fast as I could.
