I cannot speak highly enough about Austin Doula Care, I'm so grateful my physician recommended their practice. But more specifically I am so grateful to my doula, Leanna. I cannot imagine my journey into motherhood without her! She has been an integral part of my experience, bringing a calming presence, knowledge, and endless support and validation. I had time with Leanna for prenatal care, labor, delivery and postpartum care. Being pregnant with my first baby, there were so many questions that came up at each of these phases and having Leanna in my corner was invaluable. She was especially helpful during labor/delivery and documented everything, making a forever memory for me! Leanna supported me emotionally and physically, especially on delivery day -- popsicles, sips of juice, and the blessed PEPPERMINT OIL (for that labor nausea). She made sure I had everything I needed and even put things in the hospital room to make me feel at home. All of this allowed me to be in the moment, which in turn helped my support person to also be in the moment, being assured that I was being taken care of. I can't thank Austin doula care enough! Anne Marie was my doula and she was AMAZING! I honestly don't know how anyone delivers a baby without a doula support. She was crucial on my birth experience and I am so glad we hired her. She understood and respected all my wishes and made sure things went as planned as much as possible. Couldn't have done it without my doula! This was my second birth and first hospital birth (Seton Main). I planned for an unmedicated, vaginal birth with a focus on preventing the severe tearing I experienced with my first birth (I didn't have a doula for my first). Even though our original doula was sick for the birth, she did an excellent job preparing us ahead of time, helped us create our birth plan and attended a birth prep class with us. The doula that came in her place was amazing. She met us in the drop off area at the hospital and helped us with parking, was with me as we entered the hospital and fielded questions from medical staff (I was already fully dilated and could not fully communicate), was by my side and comforting me through the entire delivery and professionally advocated for my preferences all of which were honored. My delivery was everything I hoped it would be and I know having a doula played a huge role in that. She stayed with us for a few hours after the birth, helped us with my placenta, and stayed in contact in the days that followed. I cannot recommend Austin Doula Care more. Both doulas I worked with were amazing and in general doula care is so incredibly helpful, it should be included in standard care. Do yourself a favor and get a doula. read more

Austin Doula Care is wonderful! They were thorough and attentive when it came to both my and my husbands needs... and our many many questions. At the last moment, the doula I partnered with had a family emergency and ACD was quick to not only find me a replacement, but to make sure I felt cared for and confident as I made my way to the hospital in the coming days. My partner and I had Leanna and Ann Marie as our doulas, and we couldn't have been happier! They were both conscientious, knowledgeable, supportive, and warm. This has taken me incredibly too long to write but that's what life is like after having kids! I had a phobia of everything pregnancy and delivery related, even though I've wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. Sarah was a blessing in the months leading up to my labor, during, and afterwards in the postpartum period. She was crucial in validating the many moods of my pregnancy journey. Sarah was my advocate during my child's birth at the hospital with the nurses and doctor. Most importantly, Sarah remembered my birth preferences and encouraged me to take steps towards my own goals when labor became increasingly challenging. She helped me stay the course by providing resources other than epidural during my 13 hour labor into a vaginal birth. She was also an important resource for my husband by aiding in normalizing the process of labor. I could not imagine my experience going any other way than it did. We hired Kim and Chelsea in my 2nd trimester to help us though the process of delivering our first baby girl.   We contacted Austin Doula Care after one of our friends recommended them, and it was one the best decisions we made! We brought them on to help with my prenatal and postpartum care, and also to conduct a multi-week private training on Hypnobirthing.  In addition to Hypnobirthing, this included a ton of great information about the birthing process in general.  My husband and I both learned a lot.   One of their most important contributions came in the recommendation of Joan Smith at Abundance Midwifery. We switched from OBGYN North to Joan Smith at 34wks and we could not have been in better hands. We had the one on one indepth prenatal visits at home and her office, with a delivery at Seton Main. The doulas continuous help was also imperative leading up to and during labor.  After my water broke, we were in constant contact with Kim, as well as our midwife.  They had a solid working relationship and had delivered many babies together before ours.  The midwife provided critical medical evaluations, and Kim was on hand to help with massage, advice on how to move the labor along, encouragement, and expert opinions for maybe 36 straight hours leading up to and through delivery.   We had several home visits, and constant companionship in the delivery room.  Kim was in the trenches with us and sent Katie(another Doula in the practice) to support me while she had a class to teach. Katie came to my house with nothing but loving arms and a sweet determination to support my laboring process. My husband and I clearly acknowledge he could not have given me the amount of support I needed alone.  After our little one arrived Kim came to the house to read me all the notes she had taken during my labor, a gift beyond words :) We will be forever grateful for the love and support everyone at ADC provided when we needed it the most. read more

Choosing Austin Doula Care and Kim and Chelsea was the best decision! I really enjoyed the groups at their Hancock location and learned a lot despite it being my second pregnancy and working in healthcare. I felt the two prenatal visits, to discuss the birth and postpartum plans, were very helpful and healing. Both of these doulas are so positive, compassionate and direct. I loved the access by text and email. When I went into labor, Kim was there before the midwife. What a relief to feel her providing back massage so my husband could be in front and focusing on me! I had my dream birth in large part because of the confidence I gained from hiring them and the support Kim provided in labor. The pictures and notes Kim gave me after the birth will give me joy for the rest of my life. Even without in-person visits (pandemic), I really felt their support after the birth as well. I've known Chelsea and Kim for just over a year and utilized a lot of their services. We've been through 2 births, prenatal classes, pumping support, and loss support. They are each such powerful and strong women and that influence definitely spreads to the mama-to-be. They each bring an unique perspective to birth and life that make them compassionate and ready for any situation that arises. They are my "mama role models". Before birth, they have a wealth of knowledge to help prepare you for labor and parenting. From answering every "is this normal" question, different techniques to use during labor, and even how to strengthen your bond with your partner. During labor, Chelsea was available 24/7 in anyway we needed her. She only came to the hospital when we needed her, and as soon as she got there she jumped straight into action. She was able to communicate with the nurses and other hospital staff in such a way that was respectful but put my needs first. She offered laboring techniques, had essential oils, and gave me a massage. I had a very quick progressing labor and she was the one to alert to nurses/doctors that I was ready to push (since my husband was wrapped in my grip and I wasn't going to let go anytime soon!). She realized I was progressing so fast that my birth photographer wouldn't make it in time and began taking photos on her phone-so priceless! Kim is such a sweet soul. She truly made an impact on me and a lifelong connection. She exudes compassion, healing, and confidence. Her smile and laugh can instantly make a room a bit brighter. We were fortunate enough to work with Kim for the delivery of our first kiddo. As the pregnancy progressed we knew we were likely going to have to do a C section because our daughter was breech (and stubbornly so). We did have one scheduled but ended up doing it a few day earlier than planned and it was so very helpful to have Kim there. My daughter was stunned at birth so needed some additional TLC and while my husband left the room to be with her, Kim stayed with me and rubbed my head and helped me stay calm and distracted while they stitched me back up again. Then after she was critically important in helping us get Maya latched the first time. I would HIGHLY recommend working with a doula even if your birth plan changes and you will need to do a c section. Their non-anxious presence in the room and help establishing breastfeeding is KEY. read more

Chelsea and Kim have supported me for both of my births and I can't say enough about them and their practice. Chelsea was present for both of my births, and Kim was such a great educator when it came to helping me prepare. A doula is truly a gift to mothers and both these ladies have been the ultimate gift for me. Emily performed exceptional in her doula role during my delivery. She held my leg and did the counting when one of the nurses left her shift about 5 minutes before I gave birth. She helped me and my husband on when to eat, what to do, what to expect. She always reached out via text beforehand and helped me with family visiting issues. She also did little things that meant so much like dimming the lights and bringing candles and the essential oil diffuser. I felt like things would not have gone as smoothly if she was not present. read more

These ladies are amazing! I knew that Kim and Chelsea would be very supportive for me and my husband during our attempt at a vbac birth and they were, no doubt about it! However what I didn't anticipate was how incredibly valuable their presence would be when things didn't go as planned. I had 'issues' with my physicians and they documented the whole event. So now when I'm ready to make a complaint I'm not relying on my hazy labored memory. These are things you never anticipate nor want during a birth but I'm glad they were there. There is so much to say about how great Kim and Chelsea are that a simple review can't do them justice. However if you're reading this it's more likely you're reading reviews to better understand their services so I am going to list all the reasons that make them an amazing support team. Wealth of experience and knowledge- for me hiring a doula wasn't just about having someone by my side during the birthing process, it was about helping me navigate all the information that doctors bombard you with before, during and after birth. My desire was to give birth at the hospital with minimal interventions, however because I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes there were a lot of odds against me and doctors were pushing me to not only induce early but potentially prepare for a c-section (something I deeply wanted to avoid). Both Kim and Chelsea were able to provide me with a lot of evidence based research that allowed me to have a more confident conversation with the doctors vs. being confused and feeling like I had no say in the experience. I am happy to say that with their support we had a very successful birth. Save you a lot of time researching- because they have a wealth of experience and knowledge with all types of different births and situations they were able to help me understand what is normal and what is not as well as provide tips and recommendations on everything from pre-birth exercises that will help open up the pelvis and situate the baby into position, laboring techniques to help ride out those contractions as much as possible, all the way to post birth tips such as how to avoid sore nipples during breast feeding or the difference between foremilk and hindmilk and how you feed your baby on the breast affects the ability for your baby to gain weight post birth. Both Kim and Chelsea brought up so many different aspects that I was not even aware of and am so grateful I had them by my side as a resource. Amazing communicators, and very organized - Kim and Chelsea are very transparent in what they can and can't do so you never feel like your expectations are not being met. For instance my due date was around Thanksgiving and my concern was being able to find a support team that would be potentially available during this big family holiday. Both of the doulas were always in contact with me and we had a coverage plan. They're extremely supportive and always available via text, phone or email, so even amidst their personal lives (they have kids, husbands outside of just their client's lives) they always get back to you and always take their time with you. Additionally during the actual labor process Chelsea kept a note log of the entire experience on Google Docs so Kim could access it later should our labor run over and they needed to shift change. We were also able to access the note log as a momento of our birthing experience which is pretty special. Extremely thoughtful- post birth Chelsea kept checking up on me and the baby, coming to visit several times as well as brining wonderful restorative herbs as well as brining me dinner one night. These ladies are seriously amazing and I highly recommend their support and services. read more

We had the pleasure of stumbling across one of the best doulas in all of Austin! I'm not joking. My husband I had interviewed quite a lot of people and just hadn't found someone who we felt was knowledgable, confident, soothing nor someone we really had a connection with. Enter, CHELSEA. I'm actually kicking myself as I write this. I don't want people to know how fabulous she is.... I'd like her to be available to us the next time we are having a child... But alas, everyone does need to know her and deserves the same incredible birthing experience. She was so useful during this birth that we felt like we had taken advantage of her somehow with all that we received with having her by our side. We felt like she was our best friend, like we'd known her all our lives... She became family instantly. She brought out some many different types of tools (rebozo, squats, breathing, etc.), tricks of the trade and her lovely sense of humor to keep us going during the rough patches. There were times when I didn't know what to do next- she asked for us to have time to discuss without the doctors present so we could stick to our plan or find a way to veer back to it. I needed that. I needed her knowledge and strength too. We went in to labor late Monday evening and delivered on Thursday morning. Thanks to CHELSEA my first birth experience was amazing; I might even say magical. She's checked in on us so many times afterwards. We are so very thankful for her. Lucky to have met her. Having had subpar doula experience in a previous birth, I was skeptical that hiring a doula would be of much added benefit; however, the support I received from Kim and Chelsea made the world of difference for me. I had the opportunity to participate in the Birthing From Within childbirth course led by Kim, and I benefited greatly in holistic preparation (mind, body, and soul) for my birth experience. When I was still pregnant well past my due date, Kim sent me articles of encouragement and ultimately was a listening ear. And when my birth plan morphed into a medically-necessary induction, I felt educated about my options and confident in my decisions. My husband and I didn't decide to hire a doula until I was about 34 weeks pregnant but we are so glad we did! Katie was amazing before, during, and after our daughter's birth. She met with us beforehand to talk over the details and what kind of birth we were hoping for. She was very informative and supportive of the decisions we made and provided us with information and resources to help us prepare. During the labor at Seton, Katie was indispensable - she helped me advocate for myself, knew what to ask for to make things go as smoothly as possible, she was so encouraging and supportive, and she does the best hip squeezes to make the contractions somewhat bearable! She stuck with us till the end and I am so grateful for her calm and supportive presence through the whole experience. Afterward, she provided so much support when I had questions about breastfeeding, nanny sharing, baby wearing, dealing with lack of sleep, and the various other concerns that new moms have. Katie always responded to my concerns with helpful information and genuine care for my well being.
