Where to begin?! We moved to Austin from Arizona, and within about six months of being here, got pregnant with our second child. We had an amazing home birth team in Phoenix, so our expectations were really high for the type of care and knowledge we wanted in our Midwife. Being new to Austin meant we didn't have a large network of people to ask for references, so I researched online, read reviews and looked through credentials. I knew very quickly I wanted to work with Christy and Jenni. I had an extremely difficult pregnancy, although I was also sick the entirety of my first as well. I had hyperemesis gravidarum, meaning I was throwing up constantly, losing weight, and unable to keep down hardly anything. Christy has a huge wealth of knowledge and practices functional medicine alongside traditional options. I was always given information of references for alternative therapies to help my nausea. They were always helping me manage my sickness and we worked closely with a perinatal MD for any tests or services Christy couldn't provide herself. I had incredible care throughout my pregnancy and can't stress enough how great a resource Christy was for every ailment. Our birth experience was awesome! It only lasted an hour and a half (sooo fast!) but it was in the middle of the night with a birth tub. Our baby was born in a state of shock, partially because of how quickly everything progressed, and had a little trouble breathing. Christy knew what to do immediately and got her breathing and feeding perfectly in no time. The postpartum care we received was incredible. I had pelvic floor issues and our baby had some skin issues and Christy and Jenni were always available to answer questions and connect us with a provider that could help if it was outside their realm. Truly, we can't say enough about our experience and this team of women! They are wonderful and you and your baby will be in great hands. read more

Finding Jenni and Christy was like winning the lottery. I literally can't put into words how amazing these two women are...and how positively they have impacted my (and my family's) life. They are just. The best. Jenni and Christy helped my wife and I through two births, and unfortunately a few miscarriages. We first met them while interviewing for a midwife back in 2015. We interviewed a few other people around town, but instantly clicked with Jenni and Christy. They are warm, responsive, realistic and the best part - they really care about you, your pregnancy and your experience. Our meetings were sometimes long - filled with laughter in addition to medical explanations of my changing body. They took a few minutes each time to do the medical stuff, blood pressure/pee test/feel for baby...but then, the rest of the time they just wanted to know how I was feeling. I miss them. When my birth came around, Jenni was my rock. She is kind and gentle - her presence during the chaos of birth was invaluable. She kept me calm, centered and most of all, feeling safe through 8 hours of active labor and a 3 hours of pushing. My kiddo didn't want to come out, but they literally pulled out a bag of tricks: peanut yoga balls, weird positions, ropes to pull on and things to rest my legs on. They kept my spirits up, even when in those moments of wanting to give up. And, with their help I birthed a healthy little girl in the comfort of my home. It was amazing. Women are amazing. Now I'm crying. I can't recommend these MotherBloom midwifery enough. I'm so grateful that I found MotherBloom Midwifery when we did. I was connected with April at the end of my pregnancy and she really saved the day. She supported me in transitioning to a home birth, since it was very important to me that I try to avoid the hospital, especially during COVID. April was kind, responsive and made me feel like the expert of my own body and labor experience. She went above and beyond in her birth and postpartum care- I cannot recommend her enough! April was very thorough and made me feel safe and supported throughout my labor. She regularly checked my blood pressure and the baby's heart rate, and made recommendations on positions and methods to progress labor. After laboring at home for 24 hours, it was clear that baby was stuck in a funky position and we needed to consider the hospital. April explained my options to me and even though I didn't initially want a hospital birth, I felt very supported in my decision and it was clear we had done everything we could at home. April called all the local hospitals to make her recommendation on where to go. We ended up going to St. David's Main and seeing Dr. Davenport. Not only did April make sure that our transfer was seamless, she also came to the hospital with us and attended my surgery when a C-Section was determined as the best delivery method. After birth, April provided in-home postpartum care for the 5 weeks after birth. This was incredibly convenient while recovering from surgery. Her visits were thorough and lasted 45-60 minutes each. She monitored my physical recovery and surgical incision, my emotional well-bring as well as the baby's progress such as breastfeeding and weight gain. She was available by text and came by to take a urine culture when I was having UTI symptoms. Overall, April provided person-centered, compassionate care and I would definitely work with her again if we decide to have another kiddo. read more

Christy and Jenni are so amazing at what they do! We were first time parents and we really wanted to have a natural home birth. After being rejected at Austin area birthing center because we didn't want to do any sonograms, Jenni and Christy took us in. They respected how we wanted to go about it and always gave us info and advice on anything if we needed it. They were never pushy or judged us about any decisions. We loved going their office for check ups because it was very warm and welcoming and looks nothing like a doctors office which always feel sad and depressing. Jenni and Janixia came to our home to deliver our baby boy and we wouldn't have done it any other way if we could. They knew exactly what to do and made us feel safe and secure and the outcome was a beautiful, healthy baby. They took good care of us! Working with April was the best decision I made! I actually worked with April through two pregnancies. My third pregnancy in 2020 ended in a loss at 18 weeks. When I learned at my anatomy scan that I had lost the baby, April immediately met me at my house within 30 minutes and explained my options. She held my hand and was constantly available. She coordinated my care at the hospital and came to my home and helped fold laundry while I cried. She knew all the right things to say and stayed in touch me. When I got pregnant again in 2021, I immediately reached out to April. Before I even paid her deposit, she came to my house to draw labs to make sure everything with the current pregnancy was healthy. She continued to go above and beyond and provide excellent and personalized care throughout my pregnancy. I have two older children, both of whom she consistently included in appointments, even when they were acting like true wild animals . She was always available to answer questions, respond to emails and texts, and always took my concerns to heart. When labor started quite dramatically, she immediately came to my house. She was calm and collected when I was panicky and helped me stay grounded. She was so respectful of my birth wishes and literally made sure I had everything I needed. She perfectly toed the line between professional and personal. I trusted her guidance but she also made it clear that I was in control. She treated my baby gently and kindly, and made it a clear priority to respect our bonding and immediate postpartum. I am a birth worker myself, so I have very high standards for care, both clinically and in terms of personal relationship. For all of these reasons, I can't recommend April enough. She's a wonderful person and her heart for midwifery combined with her skilled hands make her an excellent care provider. You will not be sorry if you go with April for your home birth. read more

I delivered my baby boy at home on March 21st 2016. I have been under the care of MotherBloom midwifery's team during my pregnancy and delivery . I can't say enough good things about Christy, Chandra and Jenny . Their type of care embodies what true midwifery should be : empowering , compassionate , caring while skillful and knowledgable. My experience with Christy and MotherBloom Midwifery was spectacular! Being new to TX and already nearing my 3rd trimester I was nervous about building a bond with a new health professional but Christy was warm and friendly making it a breeze for my family and me to feel at ease. Christy's professionalism is always more than expected and her knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care is very expansive. She was able to include my entire family (Me, My husband, our 8yo, my mother, and our arriving infant) in the birth experience with a calm and loving manner. My son was delivered by Christy at our apartment home within in minutes of her arrival as a surprise breech. Her level-headed nature and swift response allowed my family and I to welcome our new baby into the world safe and serene manner. I am still in awe of how quickly Christy diagnosed the breech and prepared for the baby's super fast birth INCLUDING calling back-up and assembling emergency resuscitation equipment. Although Reign (our baby) was born feet first with no complications I am glad to have had a midwife who can think on her feet in the off chance me or my child would have needed emergency care. Even weeks after reign's birth Christy and her assistant Jenny were still there to check in on us and give my family advice, resources, and sympathy as we struggled with some severe nursing problems. MotherBloom's recommendations for lactation consulting and pediatric care were right on the money for our growing brood. Christy and Jenni are both wonderful midwives, we could not have had a better experience. They were always able to answer my questions in a timely manner, and truly embodied the midwife model of care. They were good at keeping my experience personal and natural, but also were comfortable referring to get a sonogram when we agreed it was best (e.g., to confirm the baby had flipped out of breech). I ended up going into labor on the night of 42 weeks and had a lovely labor and delivery with no complications. Christy was one of my midwives throughout my pregnancy and became my only midwife towards the end. I can't think of enough kind words to say! Seriously, she's great. I'll break my review down a bit. Prenatal care: She is very thorough. She sits down and intently listens to any concerns you may have, and takes time to give you answers. She never brushed anything off as just silly or not important, even if it was! She is very experienced and knowledgeable, which made me feel very safe with her. Her patience is astounding! She will go above and beyond what you expect (she bent over backwards for me on more than one occasion). Labor: Christy came to my house a couple of times when I was insistent I was in labor (even though she knew I wasn't but couldn't convince me otherwise). She NEVER EVER was annoyed or put out by my perceived needs (and the thousands of text messages/late night phone calls throughout my course of care). When I really was in labor she came just as she had before: prepared, alert (even though it was 1:30 a.m.), and smiling. Her belief in me and my body reassured me a few times when I forgot. Christy's knowledge and consideration is truly amazing. Because of complications I hesitantly chose to transfer to a hospital. with Christy's recommendation, several hours later. Because it wasn't an imminent emergency, I was able to put it off just long enough to come to terms with the fact that I was going to have to go. Christy's understanding of my personality and the situation is what made my experience-gone-awry so wonderful. She stayed with me the entire time in the hospital that day. All 14+ hours until my son was born! Technically she didn't have to do that, it was a big inconvenience for many people (she had to reschedule an entire days worth of appointments and the other midwife was out of town, so she was really booked!) But she did, and without hesitation. She cheered me on when I started pushing, and she shoved me further than I ever thought I could go (physically, mentally, and emotionally) by the time I finished pushing-5 hours later! Her words of encouragement and the help she lent when I thought I just couldn't do it any more will be with me forever. Post Partum: Very thorough home visits, with both myself and the baby, every time. She even called a few times in between to check up and make sure everything was going alright, or if I needed anything. As is her usual, she is quick to answer any questions and is wonderful about returning phone calls if she happens to miss one. I literally can't think of a single negative thing about Christy or her practice. Please give her a call if you are shopping for a midwife. You'll know right off the bat if her personality is a clash with yours because she doesn't put up a front of any sort. She is exactly who she appears to be when you meet her. read more

I wrote this and posted it to my personal facebook wall shortly after my youngest was born with Christy and Jenni attending. I am just now getting around to sharing it on their official review sites. I'm having midwife withdrawals. When you see or at least talk with someone almost daily for 9 months...when they pamper you, listen to you, encourage you, watch intently as your belly swells, and genuinely put their effort into making sure you thrive...when you eat with them, laugh with them, cry with them, and expose your emotions and thoughts and yes, ahem, body parts...when they show up to help you bring your baby into the world and they do it with such humor, and style, and love, and gentleness, and expertise...when you lose your mind while birthing a posterior baby because you've never felt anything like it and it scares you and you're not sure at all that you can finish it and they're the ones you look to for authentic reassurance...when you rely on these two beautiful people during your most joyous, most powerful, and most vulnerable moments...when they share in the smallest details and the biggest definitions of your life...when all this happens, you miss them when its all over. Terribly. And you want it back. #midwifewithdrawals. But then you look at your tiny, precious newborn and rejoice in the fact that even though your time with them may have cycled through, they've moved on to making other women feel as strong and as important as they made you feel. That helps. But you still miss it because they made you realize you deserve it. read more

I had the best experience a mother could have when I gave birth to my daughter. Christy attended my birth in my home and I could not have asked for more. I transferred to her service at 20 weeks after I realized my doctor was not going to support me in my decision to have a vaginal birth after two cesareans (VBA2C). I was very nervous about the idea of having my baby at home and I came to my first appointment armed with 1,000 questions about the process. Christy was so helpful, kind, straightforward, and calm about everything. My husband was not totally on board with the home birth idea until after that first appointment. My prenatal care with Christy was completely unlike anything I had experienced before. We always had a full hour to talk about what was going on with me. At one appointment, I just cried for half of it and she massaged my back and tummy for the rest, knowing I needed to calm down and let it out. That is the thing about Christy, she just knows what is going on with you. She picked up on my personality and needs very quickly and was responsive to them. Towards the end of my 42 week pregnancy, I became doubtful and depressed about my prospects of having a baby vaginally. I thought it would never happen. Christy helped me take it one day at a time- until one day it was actually time! Christy came to my house when I was in very early labor to check me out and give me some IV fluids when I was severely dehydrated (stomach bug or hormones). She checked on me throughout the day as my labor progressed very slowly. That evening, she and another midwife came to see me through to the birth of my baby. Christy stayed in my room the whole night as my husband and I labored. She gave me suggestions, checked me when I felt like I wanted to be checked, and gave my husband and I space to labor on our own. She knew what all of my sounds meant and she guided me through a perfect vaginal birth in my bed! She made me a wonderful herb bath, fed me, cleaned and cut up my placenta for me (my request), changed my sheets, and tucked our family in at 4 am after a 25 hour labor! Not to mention this was two days before Christmas. She was just amazing and helped me experience something I have wanted my whole life. The follow up care was great- in my home. I cannot recommend her enough- especially for VBAC- she knows her stuff! read more

Christy and Jenni are incredible. I would strongly recommend them to anyone. They helped me deliver my third child at home at 42 weeks, without any complications or problems. (Right there, that they supported my choice to go to 42 weeks, says a lot. Of course they also checked frequently toward the end to be sure that everything looked okay.) It was my first home birth and I felt empowered and supported through the pregnancy and birth and postpartum. Throughout my pregnancy they were ALWAYS respectful of my choices, they were thorough and never rushed me, and they were thoughtful, caring, and present. They really listened and connected. They are great midwives and great people. They go above and beyond -- checking in on me frequently postpartum -- both in person and by phone, explaining things in detail, presenting all options, educating without ever coming off as patronizing, making blueberry crumble for our group prenatal, listening to me cry when stressed out, giving massages through the birth, being patient and loving with my two kids during prenatal visits, etc. I got to observe them with several other clients as well, and I was amazed by how well they connected with every one of them, meeting them wherever they were at. After having my first child at a hospital with a doctor and my second child at a hospital with midwives, I couldn't help but compare -- and Christy and Jenni's care was 100 times better than either previous experience, and in so many different ways. I thought that I would not be able to have the home birth I wanted because I couldn't afford it and my insurance wouldn't cover a home birth. Christy kindly let me pay in installments and let me work-barter for much of the cost. It was always a treat to go see them and spend time with them at prenatal visits. I hired Christy to be my midwife for my second child three years before she was conceived. My first child was one at the time, and I'd been dissatisfied with my first pregnancy and birth experience. I was specifically looking for someone that would really work with me on my blood sugars (I'd had GD with my first, which risked me out of my planned home birth and sent me to the hospital), and for someone who would be a really calm presence and just allow me to birth my next baby without interference. Y'all--Christy really fits that bill. I cannot rave about her enough--she's the gold standard of midwives in Austin, especially if you're looking for someone hands off (like I was). Being an NP was one of the major things that drew us to her, and I feel like her extra clinical training is a big part of the reason why she's so relaxed and calm--she's seen it all and through everything knows that with birthing babies it really boils down to trusting nature to take it's course (as it almost always does). Christy gave me exactly what I needed during labor and lots of things I had no idea I needed. She trusted me, my body, and my baby to work together to get the job done. I'm writing this form my husband's account since it won't post from mine. I had the pleasure of Christy's midwifery service during my second pregnancy. I knew immediately I wanted her to be my midwife when I interviewed her. Her personality was very laid back yet she is very thorough, and the way she listens and responds is so calming. I am a nurse as well, and I felt like she was very knowledgeable of all my questions. I was still somewhat unsure about having a home birth before I met Christy, but after talking with her, I felt reassured that it was the right decision. My prenatal visits were always something I looked forward to, and were never rushed like I had experienced with my first pregnancy going to an OB. I know she is a very busy lady with two kids, lots of clients, and finishing up her NP clinicals, but she was always quickly responsive to my phone calls and texts. Although she did not make it to my birth (baby came VERY fast), she calmly talked my husband through how to manage a potentially scary situation over the phone until she arrived. Then she took excellent care of me and my baby afterwards. She left town the day after my birth for a conference and although another midwife came for my postpartum visits, Christy called to check on me several times that week. I would recommend Christy as a midwife to anybody, and thanks to her I was able to avoid the hospital scene and had a lovely and very memorable home birth. read more

Best of midwife experience Ever. I just came home from our pre-conception meet up with Christy. She is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!! Super kind, takes her time with her clients, I felt more like a friend there, though. :) Her knowledge is impressive, she takes her time to explain everything and to answer all your questions and has the kind words to suggest you things to check out. She suggested books, classes to me to get better on the areas where I need to be more cautious. She should actually teach in schools about all the great stuff she does! I've never met a woman who I clicked that quickly with. Super kind and caring, again. She took my blood to do some tests. Her touch was gentle and she told me what she's going to do all the time. (Both are super important to me, since I'd like to know what is going around the pregnancy and birth as well and wouldn't really want to have someone with some kind of "touch of Hulk" around me.) I felt 100% safe with her and I am so glad I found her. I already met with many midwives, but she's THE ONE. I already feel huge relief about getting pregnant, since I know we'll be in great hands. Her office is gorgeous, she has 3 dogs at home who are super kind and adorable. On her property, you feel Mother Nature close as well, many trees, swing in the front yard with chairs around. Pretty, really calming and quiet. She keeps her client database online, so it'll be really convenient to check my test results and discuss it with her after that, all from home. :) So, if you happen to look for a midwife, please look further, because I'll need my spot with her!!! :))) Just kidding. If you're that picky with your care provider like I am, Christy is going to be your best choice in the Austin area. Put her right on the top of your interview list. Christy, Jenny and her student at the time, Paula, were just what I needed for my second home birth. Amazingly calm, informed, caring, thoughtful, empowering & kind human beings- during all the prenatal visits, the birth, and all the postpartum care. They go above & beyond in caring for their mamas, families & babies. Christy is also a nurse which brings an extra oomph of knowledge but she is also very aware of herbs, homeopathic remedies, etc. She also has a great "office" where you feel immediately comfortable & away from the busy pace of life. I had some physical challenges at times & I really appreciated Christy & team problem-solving different strategies together with me instead of just telling me what to do, or just leaving it up to me. Christy was my midwife for my 3rd birth and is currently my midwife for my soon to be 4th birth. She was referred to me by the woman we took our birth classes from with our first baby. I had 2 great, all natural hospital births with our first 2 children, but I didn't like being away from my daughter after birthing my second. That, along with a few other things made us start looking at either birth center or home births. We decided on a homebirth for #3 and couldn't have been more blessed by it! Christy was wonderful from the beginning. She was so attentive at each prenatal visit and I really felt like she was interested in what I was going through/dealing with, how it affected my pregnancy and my overall emotional state. When I finally went into labor with our baby 16 days past his due date, she was there for it all. She remained calm and supportive and I completely trusted her with my well being and that of my baby. She always seemed to say and do just what I needed when I needed it. When I found out I was pregnant with #4, my husband and I didn't even have to discuss what we might want.
