I found Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra after I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The diagnosis was shock and I did not know where to begin in handling it. I was originally referred to another surgeon who was very nice but my husband and I did not walk away confident in his approach to my situation. The radiologist who performed the biopsy recommended Dr. Brady and before I committed to going to see her, I did my research. I went to her website and it was professionally done. It tells you about her experience and reputation. It educates you on what kind of questions to ask and what are the criteria to consider to choose your thyroid surgeon. It's EXTREMELY informative. I was diagnosed at 11 years old with having thyroid disorder. Over 25 years later, I was sent for an ultrasound, which turned into a biopsy, which turned into a genetic test, which turned into my favorite part of the story- a referral to see the wonderful Team of Dr Brady and Dr Sabra. Dr Brady discussed my options with me thoroughly and with so much patience and kindness. It was the first time I felt like a patient and not a number. Due to numerous nodules on my thyroid, a couple of which remained suspicious, we decided upon a Complete Thyroidectomy. I had been going through pain and misery for two years and had seen two specialists! The first one didn't want to follow up with me for a year, never mind the misery I was in, and the other put me on 18 Ibuprofen a day, reduced to 12 a day after a month after my complaints about my insides burning. I had a cyst on my nodule to begin with which grew to almost 2" and had 4 more later on. They were almost choking me, couldn't swallow, couldn't take deep breaths without choking and coughing non stop, sleeping sitting up. I was in despair and then I was referred to Dr Sabra. My name is Rick. One morning while driving a rideshare service called Ride Austin, I picked up a young doctor at the Texas Heart Hospital with a nametag of Dr. Brady. I'm prone to talk to the people I pick up for a ride, and I told him I occasionally drive more out of boredom, than any single reason. This young doctor said he could relate because when his wife was doing an internship in Germany, he too had idle time on his hands. He said, my wife Bridget.... and I suddenly put two and two together and realized that his nametag said Brady, and with his wife's first name. I turned and said, "I LOVE YOUR WIFE!" He looked somewhat startled, so I told him my wife went to see Dr. Bridget Brady with a thyroid problem. Dr. Brady viewed my wife's x-ray and said, there's a problem with your thyroid, but I won't do the surgery unless you have this small spot on your lungs checked out first by a pulmonologist to make sure you won't have problems with anesthesiology during surgery. We followed her instructions and the spot turned out to be the onset of lung cancer. We contacted Dr. Stephen Brown, an oncologist and friend, and he said he seldom was able to treat lung cancer so early. After successful treatment with Austin Cyberknife, my wife's cancer is in remission. My PCP found a thyroid nodule during a routine physical. She sent me to an endocrinologist who sent me for an ultrasound, where they found two nodules. The biopsy came back negative, but it was discovered on follow-up that they had performed the biopsy on the less suspicious nodule accidently. A nurse in the office then nonchalantly told me that I could consider a second opinion and perhaps I might want to see Dr. Brady. I was able to see Dr. Brady much sooner than I anticipated, which was wonderful. After she examined me, she did another ultrasound and biopsy on the spot. Both nodules had grown, so I was very surprised when Dr. Brady called to tell me they were negative. One of the nodules was starting to interfere with my ability to swallow and I was having issues with my voice. I was given the option of having surgery or RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation). After Dr. Brady explained RFA and I read the booklet, I opted for that option. It was done right in the office and Dr. Saba was there to offer suggestions as Dr. Brady expertly performed the procedure on both of the nodules. The discomfort was not any worse than a biopsy and lasted less than 15 minutes. I took an analgesic once or twice later that day. After that, I truly did not have any discomfort. At my follow-up visit less than a month later, the ultrasound showed that both nodules had shrunk dramatically. I am so excited and happy with the results. For the past year, I have suffered from severe bladder infections! My doctor was very concerned that, in order to cure these, he had to give me extremely powerful antibiotics. He sent me to a urologist first to eliminate the possibility of kidney stones. Tests revealed none. Following that, my doctor, Dr. Sidney Robin, asked me to take a test on my thyroid and parathyroid since recent blood tests revealed an elevated calcium level in my blood! I was given a drink and then asked to be perfectly still as I entered a tube for one hour! (I have never been still for an hour in my life!!!!) This test showed a tumor on my right parathyroid. Dr. Brady was my next visit and she suggested that this tumor be removed and, with this, my calcium levels would lower because the hyper-thyroid would be able to direct the calcium to parts of my body that needed it. This high calcium level in my blood was the root cause of my bladder infections! Dr. Brady performed a simple surgery resulting in a scar about the size of a dime, sent me home and assured me that the calcium would now go to my bones and perhaps reverse my osteopenia!!!!! One never wants to have thyroid surgery, but I was so fortunate that when that need arose I found myself in the care of experts in thyroid surgery Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra. From the ultrasound, biopsy to the surgical procedure, Dr. Brady kept me comprehensively invormed every step of the way. I had two appointmets with Dr. Brady before making the decision to move forward with surgery. So glad my endo referred me to Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra! I had been seeing my endo for a couple of months after being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Grave's Disease from a family dr. When I developed a severe allergic reaction to the medicine - after being on it for two months - my endo basically said that my next option was to have a total thyroidectomy and referred me to Dr. Brady and Sabra. All this information happened right before Christmas - it was a whirlwind of emotions for me! But the surgeon's office was able to get me in for a consultation right away and scheduled the surgery right after Christmas. All I can say is Dr. Brady was amazing! I found out that I had a mass on my thyroid and was seeing a different ENT at the time. That doctor wanted to remove all my thyroid, have me stay over night in the hospital, and be out of work for two weeks. I was so unsure about this because on top of everything he never looked me in the eyes when he spoke. I decided to get a second opinion from Austin Thyroid Surgeons where I met Dr. Brady. From the start it was a much better experience, she not only took her time giving me a quick physical of my neck, but she took her own ultrasound for herself whereas the other doctor went off what ARA had sent. Her approach would allow me to keep half my thyroid, be out only one week from work, and I'd be out back in my home the same day!! I had a parathyroid problem and the surgeon I had consulted wanted to rush me to surgery. He told me that it was possible that all four glands had to be removed, although ultrasounds and other tests only showed one gland only a few millimeters long. He said that it was going to be a multi-hours surgery, and that I would have a scar two inches long across my neck. After discussing with my family doctor, he sent me to consult with Dr Bridget Brady who did an outstanding job at considering what were the best options for me. She did not push for immediate surgery at all, opting for alternative approaches. Furthermore, if in the future surgery would become necessary, the scar would only be the size of a dime. When searching for a surgeon to perform a total thyroidectomy to remove my thyroid cancer it didn't take long to realize Dr. Brady was the right choice. I had read so many reviews about her techniques being less invasive and leaving less scarring and they couldn't be more true. She is WONDERFUL to work with and is a master at her craft. Just 10 days after surgery I was back to the gym (doing modified movements/CrossFit). My scar is already barely noticeable and it feels great. She also was very attentive to what was going on inside my body. I should have written this a long time ago, since I had surgery over a year ago. Dr. Brady is one of the handful of best doctors I've ever had. She is sharp, caring and committed. She operated on my neck to remove a growth a bit larger than a golf ball (yes!) that 4 doctors completely missed and I had not seen myself due to its sneaky placement. I had doctors tell me I had sleep apnea and a host of other problems, none of which were the problem. Dr. Brady made a careful incision in the folds of my neck such that the scar is not noticeable at all. She had two people monitoring my vocal chords to be sure she did not accidentally damage my voice during the surgery. I can talk normally, but my singing voice is not as strong as before. She had a very warm personality with compassion and took the time to explain to me what I needed to have done to include illustrations.
