1 week post surgery
Tiffany T.

I previously had the radioactive iodine treatment done in 2019 in hopes that I would be able to avoid having my thyroid surgically removed. Unfortunately that treatment did not work on my stubborn thyroid so my endocrinologist suggested another round of RAI or a thyroidectomy. I decided to have a consultation with Dr. Brady to discuss my options and within 10 minutes of meeting her, I knew that surgery was the better route for me to take. Her confidence and the fact that she only performs thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, made me feel at ease immediately. I also liked the fact that her partner, Dr. Sabra, would be present during the operation. Friends and family were asking me if I was nervous about the procedure but I really wasn't thanks to Dr. Brady. She answered all of my concerns and reassured me I'd be feeling better soon after the procedure. I was able to schedule the surgery for five weeks out after meeting with Dr. Brady. Leading up to the surgery, I researched thyroidectomies and post op care stories. I mentally prepared myself for a large scar across my neck. Dr. Brady mentioned that she strives to have minimal scarring post surgery but WOWWW I would have never imagined how small and faint the incision would be. So many of my friends and family members were impressed that Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra were able to remove my enlarged thyroid from such a small incision (Dr. Brady allowed my husband to take a photo of a photo of my thyroid...so cool!). I'm almost one month post-op and my incision looks like I should be six months post-op. Still in shock every time I look at my scar. It barely looks like I had a procedure done. If you're considering having a thyroidectomy done, I would highly recommend Dr. Brady and Dr. Sabra! Also another plus...they have an office in north and south Austin which makes it much more convenient to schedule appointments with them. I appreciated not having to fight through 45 minutes of traffic to get to my appointment.

2 day post-surgical scar.

From the moment I walked into Bluebonnet Diabetes & Endocrinology, I felt seen and respected--not rushed or reduced to numbers on a chart. Dr. Lalani took the time to truly listen to my health concerns and history. She asked thoughtful questions, reviewed my labs in detail, and created a personalized treatment plan that was both clear and manageable. What stood out most is how collaborative she is. Dr. Lalani explains complex medical issues in a way that's easy to understand, works seamlessly with my PCP, and doesn't make me feel judged--only supported. Whether we're adjusting medications, exploring lifestyle changes, or planning for long-term goals, she makes me feel like an active partner in my own care. Another plus: Dr. Lalani's appointments run on time and she even offers virtual visits, which is a huge help with my busy schedule. If you're struggling to get real answers or tired of feeling like just another case number, Dr. Lalani will be a breath of fresh air. She's not only a brilliant physician but a genuinely kind human being. Highly, highly recommended.

Our initial visit was exactly what my wife and I needed - comprehensive explanation of my wife's condition, complete review of what would be done (including pictures and drawings!), answered all our concerns. We were not hurried through the process. And, the staff was very helpful and friendly. So far, so good. Then, came the surgery. Dr Kroeker came into the pre-op prep room and reviewed what would be done and any risks associated with the surgery. Including a chance for a condition called "hungry bone syndrome." The surgery was perfect and so was recovery. Only one overnight stay. And back home. The next day, my wife developed symptoms of hypocalcemia and Dr Kroeker immediately had us return to the hospital. My wife had hungry bone syndrome. The remedy is constant monitoring and IV calcium and other minerals. My wife's thyroid issue had depleted her bones and they were now sucking up all they found. For the next eight days, Dr Kroeker was in constant contact with the hospital. And, she visited my wife all the time. Throughout this condition and after my wife left the hospital, Dr Kroeker continued to stay in touch via phone, email and text. Today, 6 months or so later, my wife's incision isn't noticeable (unless you look hard). I can't be happier. And my wife is thankful for the care and attention by Dr Kroeker.

Be aware the lady who answered the phone diagnosed me on the phone and refused me an appointment.read more

My depression got so bad that I would tell my husband and kids not to include me in their weekend plans anymore. And I live that way for many years (I'm only 34)....until I met McCall. My TSH levels were at a 19! No wonder why I was suicidal and tired 24/7. I tried to control my Bipolar symptoms for years without success. I tried medication and therapy but nothing seemed to help. I was stuck. Now, a year later on Armour medication, I look forward to the future. I make plans for the future. My kids look happy since I'm always around cooking their favorite foods and we even planted a vegetable garden that has some weird shaped cucumbers growing. And I'm happy my husband didn't divorce me lol, he stayed with me even in this crazy rollercoaster. I'm so thankful for McCall. She listened to me even at my lowest point. She offered help and hope and that is something that not every doctor gives you. She cared and I was able to trust her and her judgement. Life is still hard. Some days are not perfect but I just look back at my progress and I do Thank God for finding McCall. She's amazing!

My employer recently changed insurance carriers and, as you can probably guess, the new carrier refused to cover one of my needed medications. A couple of years ago I started having issues with my throat, hand tremors, my bone density went down, and I felt like a lump in my throat. I brought it up to Dr. Sunny, who dismissed me twice. I ended up going to my GP who ordered an ultrasound, that revealed two larger masses in my thyroid. I ended up having to have my thyroid removed due to chronic thyroiditis. It had gotten so bad that the gland had started destroying itself and was stuck to nerves and neck muscles. I might still have had my thyroid if Dr. Sunny had listened when I voiced my concerns. Good luck if you pick her as your endocrinologist.

I do my research to find the best, especially if…read moreinsurance is paying for it anyway... :-) She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. She is also the Chief of Endocrinology for UT Southwestern Austin programs...as well as a Professor. With this being the case, she normally has 1 or 2 medical students following her, which isn't a big deal, at least for me... It's not like my visits are invasive (if you know what I mean), so I welcome those that are needing to learn. The only down-side to this though is the appointment runs a little longer than usual, because you're first seen by the nurses, then the medical student(s), then the doctor. So far so good - I've only had 1 appointment so far, and my follow-up is to come in a few weeks. Both the med students and Dr. Kulkarni asked lots of questions and tried best to understand what symptoms and problems I was having. They weren't in a rush to make a diagnosis, or move on to the next patient. She is very nice, outgoing, and makes you feel comfortable. Making my initial appointment was a 3 week wait - I found out later because she only sees patients on Tues and Thurs. However, my follow-up was quicker to schedule - she could've seen me next week but I had blood-tests that had to be done, so to make sure they were back in-time, they scheduled me in 2 weeks. You also must have all your medical records transferred there prior to your first appointment - which I found very helpful because she had a more accurate outlook on what was going on, including prior lab work. The parking is on the SW corner of 12th and Trinity...don't be fooled by the online maps that put you at 12th and San Jacinto. That is the correct block, but parking is in a small garage, and the entrance is on Trinity...and it's free, unless you choose to do valet.
