I have always had bad experiences with bulk billing Medical Centres. Generally you need to wait for…read moreages and the doctors always seem to be grumpy and overworked. However, the Norwood Medical Centre seems to be different. This Medical Centre can get busy, especially during flu season. But the Doctors seem to get through the crowds in good time. Depending on when you arrive the wait should not be too long. I guess every day is different. But today I arrived at 8:30am and only waited 5 mins! Crazy! I have waited much longer in a private surgery. The last couple of times that I have been there the staff at reception have been lovely, they smile and are very polite. The Doctor I saw was super sweet and happy to help me. We had a joke and a good chat. He checked through all my records before addressing my needs and updated all my information. That is unusual for a Medical Centre. Usually they just want to know what is going on and get onto the next person. I was very impressed and happy! I have now decided to boycott all other bulk-billing Medical Centres for this one! The open times are great as well if you need a quick appointment before or after work: 7am - 10pm 365 days! Perfect if you need a last minute appointment or prescription. Oh, and there is a Chemist attached to it as well just in case you need something. Note: I think that my short waiting time was due to early morning appointment.

My practitioner was Dr. Emilie Staehr who was nice initially but comes across as a very transactional doctor. Don't go in to an appointment expecting more than a 10 minute discussion. As a last resort, I'm sure there are worse clinics out there- but I would recommend seeking treatment elsewhere for anything ongoing and if you have the time there are plenty of clinics in the area which offer bulk billing. -Michael

I wish I could give this zero stars…read more For a few months I was suffering from mould allergies in a house we were renting in prospect and I was forced to come here quite often. Sometimes the wait was two hours, sometimes almost three PAST the appointment you booked one time finding three other people had been booked for 9 and waiting back after closing to all get served (10.30 was when I finally saw someone from memory). The gps are obviously under some comission based setup because they rush you through without offering any advise, cant communicate very well and with the average time I spent in there five minutes or under they must have been under the pump. Only found one great gp there who reffered me on to how to deal with my rental situation but that was the only shining light in months of going there. I got prescribed the wrong sleeping tablets and was eventually pushed to taking time off of work to go to a much further but better medical centre (trinity). Last resort only!!

While I can't speak for the health facilities here myself, I can let you in on a little secret…read more The Burnside War Memorial Hospital is more than just a health facility - it also is home to some of the loveliest, greenest gardens in the area, which anyone can enjoy. Most people think that the huge, leafy gardens are for patients only, but they're also for members of the general public. Very few people know about it, which means that the gardens are usually very peaceful and quiet. With huge palm trees, lush lawns, flowers aplenty and beautiful covered areas, it's an idyllic spot for a sunny afternoon or picnic - it;s especially beautiful in Autumn. The only downside is that there aren't as many facilities as other parks (no bbq's etc). Keep it quiet you guys!

Last time I had to stay in hospital, I was 4, and I was in to have fake teeth wired into my gums…read morebecause my baby teeth hadn't come through properly. That episode in my life left me with a phobia of the dentist (to this day the smell still gets me), as well as an occasional recurring dream of the dentist holding up the scariest cuddly toy of all time above me whilst I was knocked out by the gas. So, when I recently ruptured my Achilles and had to go in for surgery, I was (hopefully) understandably a little bit nervous, and more than a little hopeful that I wouldn't come away from my second stay in hospital with any lasting psychological scarring. I entered St Andrews at 6.55am, reported to the extremely friendly reception staff and was admitted into the hospital and taken up to my room. Happily my private health insurance warranted me a private very spacey room, where I was prepped up for surgery by more very friendly nurses. After Surgery I woke in recovery and after talking jibberish about Harvest Box nuts to a nurse for a couple moments, passing out, waking up this time slightly more coherently, and being given the all clear I was returned to my room and immediately handed a delicious ham and salad sandwich, but more incredibly - a small Dixie Cup of delcious Golden North ice cream which I think stands as probably the best thing I've ever eaten. The following night and morning passed in a blur of medication, hourly obs, some actually quite tasty hospital food, visits from family and friends - but the enduring memory I have is that of the kindness of the nurses. No matter what hour of day or night they were there, and not just there in a token kind of way. In the end I shouldn't have worried about leaving St Andrews with psychological scarring - all I left with, was a repaired achilles (and a sweet moon boot) and a couple new friends.
