Mookie's ultimate bowl with mojo pork, chicken and beef. Wonderful.
    Aaron H.

This food was beyond incredible! BEST dinner I've had in a long time! Their tent was stationed last weekend in Ivanhoe Village, right outside of the Lucky Lure bar... and boy, am I happy to have discovered them. My wife and I had the spicy beef and spicy chicken empanadas and the Mookie's Ultimate Bowl, which contains roast pork, chicken, and seasoned black beans over white rice. These amazingly delicious flavors took me back three decades to my youth in Aruba, where I have enjoyed my fair share of great Latin cuisine. The spices, the tostones (nice and salty with a hint of lime!!!), the meats... so well balanced... everything was top-notch. Maury was super friendly and his wife Tanya did a bang-up job... So much so that we cancelled our dinner reservations! I cannot wait for them to set up their brick-and-mortar shop!!

Spicy cheese and beef empanadas, our favorite.

Am I really the first to review this food truck? Wow ... well, here goes!…read more I tried a hamburger from this truck at least a few months ago. It was my first and only time at it, so the experience isn't quite fresh in my mind. I haven't seen the truck out much recently and only just now began to follow it on Facebook (www.facebook.com/bistrobabescafe). The truck also has a Twitter account, too (@bistrobabescafe). Maybe now that I'm monitoring it, I'll see it out again soon and can try some more of its food. The hamburger I tried was excellent, though I can't exactly recall what was on it. I've added a picture here on Yelp so you can at least see its presentation. I do remember that some of the ingredients/toppings were very unique, so if you're into hamburgers then you may want to try the one served at Bistro Babe's. I hope to again soon. For now, I'm giving this four stars since the hamburger was delicious, the service was great and, from what I remember, the rest of the menu consisted of some other seemingly delicious offerings. (I recall that there were at least three things I wanted to try; I couldn't find an online menu at this time, though, so I don't remember exactly what they were.) Trying food at this truck again is at or near the top of my list, though, and once I do that I will post an updated review that has a little more, uh, certainty to it instead of my hazy memories. Check out the truck's FB/Twitter pages for the latest and see if you can give it a shot if you happen to see it in person. EDIT: After I posted this review, I found some pictures from my visit. The burger I had is called the Bleu Bayou Burger (see the picture I've added) ... it had bleu or blue cheese crumbles, hickory-smoked bacon and perhaps a fried onion ring (the picture I've added of the menu is a little bit blurry, but it's looks like that's what it says). It was awesome!

I really hate when I get so disappointed with a dish that I had high hopes for. Quite a few things…read morewent wrong with it. I ordered a shrimp taco for 4 dollars as did my buddy ahead of me. He had to wait a good while to get his. I had to wait even longer 10 or more minutes after him. Other friends I know had gone to a few other food trucks and got food a lot quicker with a longer line. While waiting one of the works stepped out of the truck and started smoking a cigarette. I don't care if you smoke but can you go behind the truck, or out of the way of the customers. The workers were not super nice, nor rude just not very quick at making 1 shrimp taco. When I got the taco it looked nothing like a picture I had seen online which featured plump juicy succulent shrimp. My taco had the tiniest shrimp I have seen about nickel sized. They looked like the little frozen ones I used to feed my pet turtle when I was a kid. Not only that but there were only 3 of them. Because the shrimp element was barely there it caused the pineapple papaya salsa with mango BBQ Sauce to be way overwhelming and for some reason there wasn't much flavor but more heat from the jalapenos that were there. The whole thing was really off balance. So much off balance that I only ate half and threw the other half away. If anyone is reading this and thinking "Why the heck did she give them 2 stars for such an awful experience?" Well because maybe I think the idea is there, maybe the components to something great is there but the balance was extremely off. Maybe something was just off that night, maybe the slow service was just someone on the first day of the job, and after seeing some if the images of the food on places like foodspotting, facebook, etc. Those dishes look pretty darn good. So I gave a little, mistakes happen but for now I can't give them any more of a nudge.

The trucks change out pretty frequently, so check out the participant listing, too!! This is a great way to get a taste of Orlando all in one place. There are about 15 - 20 trucks on average, at each event. Personal faves include La Empanda and pretty much any truck that has sweets. We just tried the Cake truck (I'm drawing a complete blank on the name - I'll circle back with an update on that) and the Hot Fudge Sundae cupcake was ridiculously good! They block off a good section of parking lot for this event, so there is plenty of space to bring folding chairs and a small table (recommend this actually). At the very least, bring some sports chairs with cup holders. The lines can get pretty hefty on some of the days, so try to arrive early and hop in line at your faves to ensure you get what you are looking for to eat. We like to divide and concur. He'll go to one truck and I'll wait at another, and we'll regroup at a chosen place. This works well on busy days. Overall: A A fun event, family / pet friendly, and plenty o' food to nom on!

Initially, I thought that it would be a bust due to the rain, however, the rain only lasted about 20-30 minutes and then it was back to sunshine time. Once the sun was shining again, the streets began to quickly fill up with people out to enjoy the Holiday. The various vendors were lined up along Avalon Lake Drive and Avalon Park E. Blvd. The Avalon Town Park hosted live music in the amphitheater. In Founder's Square there was a split between a DJ and live music along with the excitement of the Gyro-x-treme ride. There was a decent number of food trucks and food stands to select from. Many of the prices ranged from $3-12. Also, there were plenty of samples and flyers being handed out. I tried a pineapple-mango smoothie, beef skirt steak with seasoned fried (Lahteeno), a cheese steak empanada, kettle corn and cake (Sweeter Than The Rest). All of it was pretty good, although if I ventured out for Lahteeno again, I would try something different. About 5 minutes to 9 pm. a short show of fireworks started at Avalon Lake and then promptly at 9 pm the main fireworks show began in the field (on Avalon Park W Blvd between Tanja King Blvd and Avalon Lake Dr). The show lasted about 20 minutes and ended with a great sparkling finale. Afterwards, all who were either not ready to go home or didn't want to be involved in the out-rushing traffic jam continued on with vendors that decided not to close up at 9 pm or headed over the the Mulberry Street Bar and Grill. Overall, it was a pretty cool experience and I would attend again.

The extra impressive action was that he wore standards PPE while handling the food due to a good allergy. That mattered soo much to me. I can't wait to order with you again Chef. The rub had helped to brown the turkey skin to a rich raw umber color as well as season the turkey. The turkey received a lot of ooh's and ah's (and yums). (The smoked lamb chops are being saved for another day, however, I can vouch for their excellence!) Thank you so much Chef JP. Family and friends asked how I found you (you also inquired).
