MISTAKE. BIG MISTAKE. HUGE. Fast forward 8 months we finally decided turf would be the way to go. We brought in 3 separate turf companies to assess our situation and give us an estimate. Allen at Grassland was hands down the most professional and knowledgable explaining the different product samples, answering our deluge of questions and assuring us the best possible product and plan to defend against the dog! Although the quote wasn't the least expensive of the three - we had all the confidence that Grassland offered a quality product and top notch service. We weren't wrong! Although our job was delayed by a few weeks due to weather when the crew arrived I was totally impressed how thoroughly they cleared the yard of the dreaded wood chips and prepped for turf. I had several questions and even a few changes from the original bid and Darwin (the lead) and Edson (the supervisor) and Allen (by phone) listened to and adjusted the plan with every request! After each days' work the crew swept and cleaned up the yard and walkways leaving everything in tip top shape. We were blessed with a break in the rain on day 4 (they had prepped days 1-3 during wind and rain and just the grossest conditions but to lay the turf they needed a dry day to ensure the best install. I appreciated the attention to detail!) I was again, so impressed watching the crew carefully drive in the nails every few inches and create zippered seams for a flawless finish. They even agreed to dispose of the wood chips (that WE had originally said WE would remove) when we decided to add that service in the 11th hour. They were so accommodating and friendly and really aimed to please. I cannot say enough good things about Grassland's sales reps, supervisors and extremely hard workers. I agree with many of the reviews on here... we wish we would've gotten turf sooner! It looks absolutely beautiful. We are proud of our yard again and... so far so good with the dog! However, once it arrived, the lack of understanding with regards to how to grade the subservice base was bad as the "install team lead" had no idea about allowing for settling of the base. Supervision and leadership was severely lacking. The company promised follow up and fall/spring maintenance which has never occurred and no contact with the Owner/manager of local company has been non-existent. I had asked for assistance with levelling of the base as certain areas had settled. The owner said they would be able to do the work in April, 2026, and have yet to hear a word from him. No surface maintenance, no call-back, not a single word. I have been forced to look for someone else to help me with establishing a smooth playing surface of which I paid over 25,000.00 for with promises that have NEVER been fulfilled. I always want to support local companies but have continued to be bitten in the ass by lack of professionalism and integrity. This whole experience with SYNLawn has forced me to never recommend this company for "Intricate, precise" work that is needed with certain projects. If all you want is an artificial lawn and don't mind substandard work (in and out and on to the next job) then you can have them but don't expect true professional craftsmanship with an eye for detail. When the turf arrived, Tyler and Danielle showed up the following afternoon and wrapped up the next day. I requested new artificial turf in place of a small patch of grass in front of our townhome, and re-leveling of the pathway that had settled poorly since construction. When all was said and done, the turf looked great and the pathway looked like new with everything level across the board. The estimate wasn't the cheapest option, however the explanation provided as part of the estimating process was top notch and I was confident that that level of detail in the estimation process meant that the work would be done with that same attention to detail and this turned out to be true. I've seen a lot of poor turf installations in my neighborhood and I'm confident that the turf will look great for years to come.

I selected Ascent from several quotes because they provided a detailed work order and comprehensive…read moreprice covering labour and materials whereas others provided an estimate based on an hourly rate. Ascent's website copy and arborist credentials sounded like just what my new-to-me property needed, leading me to believe I could trust the professionals to do the job. During the quote process Jake was punctual, knowledgeable, and responsive. After accepting the quote, I was promptly assigned a date and a four-person team. What I got was a three-person team that was personable and reasonably diligent but not skilled. From that point forward, Jake was much less responsive to questions, and I had to email him at least twice to obtain responses (one of which was an additional quote for something that was already in the work order, though that was eventually resolved). He did not attend the site to get the team started on the job nor did he return to the site to evaluate the work done. Overall, the service provided was incomplete and quality disappointingly shoddy (see below for some specifics by work-order line item). All pruning of mature rhodos and camellias was done with a pole saw or chainsaw, leaving an unsightly result that in all cases had to be remediated by me with pruning shears. When I followed up with Jake about just one of the deficiencies, his response was: "With the work that was done in addition to the work order during our time onsite we cannot complete any more work as part of this quote." He has not responded to my request to itemize what this supposed additional work was. I did ask for a several branches to be removed from one large and several small trees, which was not in the work order, but would have been at most 30 additional minutes of work. Thus, I learned that, in fact, the quote was not for completion of the items on the work order but rather for a fixed number of days on site and materials. And because I was given a team with one less person than itemized in the appointment, the work would not be completed. "Debris cleanup in the garden beds beside the house, the rhododendron bed behind the behind the house and from garden bed beside the front entrance": I had to specifically ask that they use the leaf blower to clean up the fallen leaves under the rhodos or they would have been ignored. They also used a wheelbarrow to move materials from the front of the house to the back, through this garden. I had to ask them to rake that area to remove the tire tracks in that bed as they were quite ready to leave it like that. See pictures for "cleanup" of the rhodo bed behind the house. "Cluster of spurge laurel, holly and snowberry removed on the boulevard": Many of the branches of these bushes were left on the ground where they fell. "Large rose bush at the base of the Douglas fir tree reduced by 80%": This work was done with a pole saw or possibly a chainsaw. While it may have been reduced by 80%, it was hack job that left twisted stalks and random remaining stems that I have since tidied up myself with shears. "English ivy severed at the base of trees pulled off where possible": The ivy was severed on one tree but not pulled off. The ivy on several other trees was not even severed. I was told: Well, if we sever it, it'll just die on its own. While that may be true, it's not what I paid for. "Branches in the garden beds and on the forest floor removed": Many branches remain. "Small garden bed beside the driveway cleared, statues and pots relocated, bed covered in landscape fabric, covered in pea gravel": This was done with the thinnest possible layer of pea gravel and the garden bed minimally cleared. At the end of day two, I was told the team was "too tired" to help me move the statues and I had to insist. Again, note that they sent a three-person team and not the four-person team specified in the appointment, so perhaps that's why they were so tired. "Spurge laurel throughout the property removed": Large patch of spurge laurel remains untouched. Pictures available.

Jake answered my call and came out the following day to meet with me. I accepted the quote and the crew came out about 2 weeks later, they were on-time which I really appreciate. When they arrived I pointed out a couple of extra shrubs I wanted trimmed and they did them no problem. They got everything done in one day and cleaned up after themselves. Overall I am pleased with the service.
