From the start, I had trouble with breastfeeding and Mala helped me right away. She gave me breastfeeding and pumping tips that I didn't even get from a lactation consultant. It really made a difference and gave me hope that things would get better with her advice. She also periodically checked it to monitor my progress, and as a new mother it was very reassuring and helpful to discuss my problems and concerns with her. My son was sleeping all day and not at night. Mala gave me advice about how to teach him the difference between the two and even provided me materials that would help him. She even made the extra effort to bring me the items since I couldn't leave the house with the baby. Mala is very knowledgeable about baby products on the market, especially organic products and their importance. She gave us helpful hints (such as using coconut oil to help soothe my baby) and great advice about different brands and which would be best for my baby. My wife first heard of the birthing center after talking to some friends who are not happy with…read moretheir traditional experiences with the birth of their childs, after looking up a lot of things and considering using a midwife practice, we decided that we wanted to check out the Mary O'Shea birth center because it was located in St. Peter's and my concerns were if something happened we were literally inside a hospital already. Over the course of my wife's visits leading up to the birth we met with fairies midwives who were all very kind and knowledgeable. They really put forth the patient's wishes first and try to honor them to the best of their ability while protecting both mom and the baby. My wife and I had our first child last week and the team there was very helpful and did everything they could to make wife's experience as good as possible and took great care of her and our newborn son. The nurse's came in regularly to check in on us while still giving some privacy. They were very helpful and helping her with the first latch and when we had some trouble had offered solutions as well as some tools for us, and they were also very happy to have two different lactation consultants come and work with us that really made a huge difference in the first day. I find it a little hard compared to other experiences as this is our first child, but I can say that when I've heard some other stories it sounds like we had a very blessed experience, and if you were thinking of having children or are already pregnant and looking for a place, I would highly recommend checking out this practice as all of the people here were amazing and went above and beyond.

Her counseling and presence before and during birth provided me with so much comfort and confidence and allowed me to enjoy the birthing process (as much as you can enjoy labor). Cristina provided us with emotional and educational support throughout pregnancy and birth. She did this by being available at any time to answer questions and by providing classes, one on one sessions, and constant communication during the process. We learned everything we needed to know about birth and about newborn infant care and we both felt prepared for what was in store. She helped me become prepared on a broad level, such as practicing comfort measure strategies for labor, and on a micro level, such as providing us lists of what to pack in our hospital bags. She arrived the day I went into labor, went to the hospital with us, and stayed with me until my baby was born providing emotional and physical support and was she also great company! Many people think, I have a fantastic doctor so what would a doula help for? I also had a fantastic doctor who I would recommend to any birthing person, but even the most attentive doctors and nurses are busy with multiple patients and responsibilities. Having Cristina with us the whole time dedicated solely to our experience was priceless. Her presence allowed me to have a minimal stress birthing experience and I 100% recommend her services.

I have an 8-week beginner class for kids, all supplies are included. I can teach up to 3 students at a time, that is all I have room for. Each class is 2 hours and $40. Kids learn how to use the sewing machine, we have Singer Confidence models, they make a pillow, apron, tote with 2 pockets, and a pair of elastic-waist pants. After the 8-week beginner class, the kids can make a dress and learn new sewing skills. For adults, they start with 4 classes and make a pair of elastic-waist pants, then move on to making a dress. Students can keep sewing as long as they are able, some have been coming here for 5 years. We have fashion shows, free learning events, and we are in the Memorial Day Parade. Learn to sew, it's an empowering life time skill. It's lots of fun, too. It has meditative qualities.
