I have had my car for over three years. Until I went to Auto 1 Shop I had no idea that it goes through oil much faster than other cars. I need to replace it more often or the engine sounds TERRIBLE. I was working in an orchard all day, and started to drive home (120 miles away) in my Audi Q7. At 4:30PM on the friday of Labor Day weekend, all of a sudden my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree: many indicator lights flashed on, and the truck could not maintain highway speed (later revealed that cylinder #2 was not firing). We started to drive around Turlock, looking for somebody to help. (The Les Schwab tire center helped; inflating the tires did not change the warning lights.) We called my Audi dealer in Burlingame, 120 miles away; they recommended a used Audi dealer in Modesto, 20 miles away. Their phone said "disconnected". We figured the truck would not make it, even the 20 miles. We called AAA, figuring this would be a 120mile tow job. I arranged with my normal Audi mechanic, to drop the truck late friday night; they'd get to it on Tuesday. As we limped towards Modesto on surface streets, we came across Auto 1 Shop in Turlock. 3 service bays, doors open late friday afternoon, we limped in. Sam Yadegar, service manager, was working there alone. He pulled out a diagnostic tool, to read the engine faults. I was suprised that he could read a Euro car. It identified 22 faults. Sam commented, "I don't like the Euro cars. Sometimes, when one thing goes wrong, it triggers a cascade of engine faults". He suggested that he "clear" all of the faults. If something is truly broke, that fault will return. He suggested we deal with whatever problems showed up after clearing them all. Lo and behold, all the warning lights stayed off. We cycled the car through several on/off cycles, ran up the RPMs, and all of the warning lights stayed off. I asked Sam, "how much do I owe you?" He said "nothing, I didn't repair anything". I gave him some cash anyway. He saved me thousands of dollars on a late friday afternoon of a 3 day weekend. Thank you Sam! read more

Brought in my 91 mustang gt thought they could do some simple back brakes but didn't grease the slide pins that's a pretty common practice when doing brakes as far as I know I would've done them my self but my husband took it in trying to be nice and get them done for me for $400 i jus feel like they could've atleast greased the pins or let us know if there was an issue with one being stuck or not sliding properly read more

This shop is a joke. They have a big ASE certified sign out front but no one in that shop is ASE certified. When questioned why do you advertise that your ASE certified the owner Sam said it came with the building. In that case you need to remove that sign. Your false advertising. read more

But my last service saw a sky rocket in his prices and service. Close to $600 to replace alternator. Being very familiar with automotive, sometimes choose to support local businesses over doing my self. This job was completely doable myself but since Sam had done so well in the past I trusted him and his shop. I didn't ask for an estimate, I should have. So when the bill came was pretty shocked. Unfortunately may be looking for another garage after this. My Ford pick up was having "dead battery" issues and I decided to stop by. Sam looked at my and diagnosed it in 15 minutes. He said there was just a dirty and loose battery cable which he cleaned and fixed for free! He rechecked the diagnosis and confirmed the problem was solved. No charge???? That is a first for me. I used the oil change coupon I found in a local advertising booklet, and I found the place I will be taking all our cars from now on. During his inspection of my car, the mechanic (Sam) pointed out a potentially dangerous situation - There was some type of fluid leaking onto our rear tires. He asked me if I wanted him to take a look at it and I said OK (thinking uh-oh, here's where the bill gets jacked up). After his examination, he asked if we had had any work done on the rear end, which we had just a few months ago. He said I needed to take it back to the mechanic who had done the work because the axle seals were leaking. I know nothing about cars, so Sam could have charged me for the repair and I would have never known. But by taking it back to the original mechanic to have it corrected, it was under warranty so my bill was zero. Sam didn't even charge me for the time it took to determine the cause of the leak. You hear so many stories about mechanics taking advantage of customers. Its very nice to be able to tell a story about one of the honest ones! read more
