Buying tires is something I dread. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it's not like you are going to say to your friends, come over and check out my new tires! Unless you are someone who gets a new vehicle every couple of years, you will need to purchase new tires at some point during the time you own the vehicle. In the past, I would always purchase my tires through a big box store. Since the pandemic, it has been very important to me and my husband to support locally owned small businesses whenever possible. We decided to try Balswick's. We stopped by yesterday to ask about new tires for my vehicle. Unfortunately my vehicle requires a special tire size that is not normally kept in stock. The owner said he would order the tires and they would be delivered the next day around noon. We had previously scheduled plans today and were hoping to be finished with the new tires as early as possible. The owner said he would call us as soon as the tires were delivered. This morning at 6:00am my husband received a text stating our tires were delivered and are ready to be installed! Our new tires were promptly installed and we were able to take care of our plans as scheduled! We took our truck in to have it inspected because we were planning on going on a long road trip. The mechanic looked it over and gave us some suggestions on things to fix and said otherwise we are good to go. We didn't even make it 3 hours down the road when our breaks went out and a tire blew and caused us to crash. We specifically asked about both and they said they would be fine for the trip. I don't know if the guy was new or what but I feel like break life is something they should know being a mechanic shop. Usually get my oil changed here since I bought my car ...no problems until the last time i changed my oil in Jan/feb ... don't usually park in my driveway but noticed oil on the ground... took it right away and without hesitation they checked it it was a quart low thank goodness my check engine light didn't come on. They fixed it cause it was there mess up not doing something with the plug and gasket which they fixed and replaced the gasket .....without cost to me. I'm from out of town and had to get an oil change here. Charging over $100 for a synthetic oil change is absurd, there are places that can do it for $70 where I'm from. They also recommended I change the air filter and cabin filter for an additional $80 but those filters cost $20 combined. These guys are great! I had shocks and struts replaced and a brake job. It was done same day and they gave me a ride home and back. About a week after work was completed I had a noisy shock, drive in, they replaced it on the spot, no questions asked They have earned my business for life! Update as of 4/17 since it won't let me add a new review: I had a not so great experience in March. I ended up meeting with the GM who did right by the situation, but still I was no overly happy with the situation. Today I came in again in a really tough spot. They had their tech work on it before official starting hours, the found the issue quick but the part can't get here till Monday. They are sending a tech to Modesto to pick up a part from the dealership in order to get me back on the road today. That's about as good as it can get. Amazing! read more

I went in for an oil change. Afterwards, My husband and dad checked it the following day. It looked like they didn't change it. It had a dark color to it. It looked the same as before I went in for an oil change. I went back and talk to them about it. Clearly they agreed with me that the oil was dark dirty. They didnt refund me or change it. I've been taking our vehicles to Balswick's for a long time! You would think, after a while, there would be some sort of acknowledgement of that, like a, "Hello, we're glad you're back!" But no. Each time I go in, no Hello, no smile, no how are you. Mr. Balswick sits there, to the left in the corner, staring at a computer. The service writer asks what I want, takes my keys, looks me up and says they'll take a look at it. The only pleasant person is the one that takes your payment. On my most recent experience, I needed tires and they quoted me over $750 for 4 tires on a compact car. I thought that was a bit high. I went to Costco, which I do not like to do, because I like to help the 'local' economy. Their price out the door was just under $500 for name brand tires! So, why do I go where I do not feel welcome or appreciated just to 'buy local'? Well, no longer... They are probably nice enough people, but they have lost their customer service touch. I am needing a brake job again, (even though they did one on my car within the last couple of years) so I'll search for a different provider of automotive services. read more

They used the right quality parts to ensure safety. Recently I needed a full sized spare tire for for a friend's lifted vehicle to perform missionary work. I tried on my own to find one with no results. I called Brett and explained what I needed. He told me he that he's super busy, but had a guy that would set me up with what I needed. Ok - this summer my husband too his vehicle in for a tire rotation. It was completed. As my husband drove onto Lander all was well for a few mins- then- while in traffic, his left tire came off and he watched it roll into oncoming traffic- he managed to gain control of the vehicle and lucky was able to pull to the side. It was 110 degrees that day. He called Balswicks and they came and out and put the tire back on as he waited in the heat. He could of been killed or have caused an accident for the oncoming traffic. I called the business the next day and said "you almost killed my husband". The response was, "I said I was sorry". We used to take all our cars here but no more- I wouldn't let them work on a tricycle. Be safe- drive on- not only could it of been far worse but the customer service was astoundingly poor. I thought they should of at least reimbursed him the cost since they almost killed him. I would not recommend- back when the older gentleman ran it - I felt it was pretty good but stay away if you want to keep all your tires in your car when you drive. read more

First time EVER purchase of a set of 4 brand new tires for my 2005 Tahoe in October of 2012 and I did not get hosed nor taken advantage of either...... Up until this time I had always purchased or been given "gently used" tires for her however it was time due to the amount of driving I had been doing and would be doing in the near future for a new set and so I took the plunge at Balswick's based on a recommendation from my ex husband of all people........ I'm a chic and one that knows very little about the functioning of my beloved rigg even though I've been legally driving since the age of 15 1/2 the thought of having to purchase a big ticket item for my ride always always and always puts the fear of god into me as ignorance is not bliss........ I dealt with Brad from start to finish and explained to him right up front that I knew absolutely nothing about tires, that the thought of being hosed due to my lack of knowledge about them was a real concern for me and that I was looking for the best deal on them that would yield me quality, safety and longevity along with the best bang for my buck...... I read the information via multiple google searches on the tires Brad quoted me on and it appeared that as long as I maintained them well and serviced them as recommended I'd be getting one hell of a deal and so I went for it. HERE'S WHAT I GOT: Set of 4 Fuzion SUV 265/70R16 112T tires brand spankin new AND that included balancing AND an alignment and lifetime tire rotations for free. Although I have moved since then and the drive isn't feasible for the rotations I still loved that addition to my purchase. ALSO I wanted to get a slightly larger size and after telling Brad this he educated me on the differences which would yield less life out of them AND a reduction of my miles per gallon of gas so I passed. Good form Brad! And since I knew my alignment had to be all jacked up as despite my best efforts I curb jump, swipe and mash curbs constantly and after the install Brad confirmed that I had indeed mastered the art of assaulting curbs..... COST, FINAL AND OUT THE DOOR: $575 I know it may sound like alot at least to anyone like me who was clueless before this needed vehicle expense but I learned that there are alot of tire people out there who would price gouge and really stick it to a consumer if they didn't due their due diligence and homework pre purchase as did Les Schwabb in Los Banos who quoted me damn near $1,000.00 for less services provided and only slightly more mileage on the tires.. Pffffffffff! Les you suck it! It's been nearly one year now come next month since I purchased my tires and to date they look damn near brand new even with all the miles I've put on them and I couldn't be happier with my start to finish experience with Brad the man and Balswick..... read more

Well they are quick. Last 2 trips not so pleased. The first time they tore apart the back of my car looking for the tire lock. Couldn't find it but left me with greasy finger prints and everything in a pile. I also looked in the same spot as I cleaned up their mess and the lock was exactly where the manufacture put it. This time I let them sell me windshield wipers along with fixing a tire and an oil change. $40.00 for 3 wipers and the last one wasn't even close to the right size and it looked like crap. Come to find out the front wasn't the right size either. All this after the young man fed me a cock and bull story about being one of the few that carry Toyota wipers and it's the only one my car will take. He didn't even use Toyota wipers! I was disapointed to be lied to and then to not care that you did a crappy job. I won't wait for strike 3. I won't be going back to Balswicks on Golden State and would recommend you think twice before doing so. read more

The name Balswicks has been around for a long time. This is a family owned business run with Christian values. This place was recommended by my father-in-law and I have been pleased with their service. When you go ask for Keith...he knows everything and shoots straight with you as well. This place went from better to even better when they hired Keith. My only issue is the oil change prices seem to have gone up...I noticed this even before need synthetic oil for my new car. I could easily write 5 paragraphs on why you shouldn't go here for an oil change. This is a rundown on what happened on my last oil change with them. Something to note before I start is that this is probably my 3rd or 4th time going to that same shop. So getting back on topic, I go in and ask if I can have my oil changed because as I pulled in they have a two or three cars ahead of me ; they say yes have a seat and I give them my keys. No less than 10 minutes I get my car key back and the guy who did my oil change saying he was done . which is the quickest time I have ever had on an oil change. I was skeptical but was glad it was fast, so I payed and left. The next day my check engine light came on so I go back to the shop and they say I would have to talk to the penzoil people about it because they were not responsible for the job. I talk to them and they say it has nothing to do with the work they did. Which is BS but there's nothing I could do so I end up taking it to another mechanic which repairs foreign cars. Forward to about a moth of going back and forth and the guy doesn't know what code he's seeing on my car but replaces a part anyway and tried to charge me for it saying he repaired it. It takes 3 days and the check engine light comes back on so at this point I'm beyond pissed and I go back to the mechanic and he suggest I leave the car there for a week and a half so he knows what's wrong. I tell him I want my money back to which he responds there is no refunds. I storm off and take my car to a bmw dealership and they tell me the people who did my oil change broke my oil cap as well as putting one O ring on my oil filter they put two. I probably spent so much money and time trying to figure out what was wrong with my car just to find out the same and first people I suspected didn't want to accept the mistakes they made. Beware of this place. Save your money and time and go to people that are actually experienced. read more

I have been purchasing my tires here for the last few years because they never fail to match or beat the best prices I can find online even at Amazon Their price includes professional mounting balancing the warranty and tire rotations As usual my man Scott who always takes great care of me went above and beyond the Call of Duty I went to get a couple new tires for the front and Scott found that the reason my tires were wearing so funny and making so much noise was because Parts in the front end were worn out . I told him I can't afford any more right now. so after going in the office for a minute he came out and told me that they were going to lower the price on the alignment and parts in order to make it so I could afford it I can't say enough good things about Balswicks and Scott for what they did for me today and I'm going to post this on Yelp as well Do yourself a favor and don't go anywhere else for tires and or any car repair. Should've gone to Costco! They couldn't price match, and I had the tires replaced because I love to support local business, what a mistake. I've used Costco for decades and never had a single problem. All 4 tires have gone flat due to the valve stems leaking. When I called after the third one, they said it was because of where I lived. Yesterday, the fourth tire went flat, 100% failure! If it was where I live, why don't all of the vehicles in Kern county get flats from valve stem failure? I've never had a valve stem fail in my life. Why couldn't they own up to maybe a bad batch of valve stems or maybe they pulled them into the rim incorrectly? In the end I paid more and received all 4 tires with problems holding air. read more

Took my classic car in for a wheel alignment. They honored my coupon which was great ($20 off of $99). But after 2 trips back the car still doesn't drive correct and I have to take it somewhere else. All computerized alignment and they don't drive the cars after alignment. Great for modern cars, but not for the older cars. read more
