Ok I'm being irritatingly cynical and pedantic but describing the ins and outs of a car park is a bit like trying to write a thesis on polishing your coffee table - you're going to run out of things to say. After that little preamble I will say that this is a long running underground car park which has served my folks well when they've been parking in the city. Although not cheap it's considerably cheaper than the nearby Victoria Square park where only those wearing Breitling watches with their accompanying Bentleys can afford to stay.

Its usually not as busy as the other car parks in the city centre and it's worth remembering when there's big events on as getting a space elsewhere is hard.

The car park is, as mentioned, pay and display but there's also a function to pay by text or on an app you can download. Price wise it's £1.50 for up to an hour and then a £1 an hour thereafter. The good thing is it's a 24 hour car park. Word of warning though, don't think that just because it's late night or early morning you won't have to pay - The Belfast harbour police will enforce car parking 24/7. This car park is a one minute walk from Titanic Belfast, a stones throw from H&W and a short 5 minute stroll from the SSE Arena. It's a wee bit of a hidden one too so if you're going to a popular gig give the SSE Arena car park a miss and go up to this one. Not only will you save a few quid but you'll also be able to get out of it a bit quicker.

I was pleasantly surprised that the place is still going strong as I'd read news stories about how it was supposed to be forced to shut by the environment agency who didn't like the number of satellite airport car parks there were. As part of the same investigation I believe the airport was told to it had to be more competitive with its own long stay, which must be why I noticed when I was booking for them that the price there had dropped a good bit. All in all the next time I go away and need to park at the airport I'll be looking to Karl first, but I'll have to keep an eye on the airports own long stay too, just to be sure before booking!

Church Road Car Park may solve all your parking quandaries. Set just off Holywood High Street this car park boasts 82 spaces as well as 2 disabled spaces. This is a pay and display car park although you can park here for 5 hours for £1! Yep, you read that correctly. £1 for 5 hours! This is an absolute steal considering how close it is to local coffee shops and businesses. Also if you don't have any change you can call the automated parking line and pay with card over the phone - all you have to do is quote the car park reference which is plastered all over the place. It's a reasonably secure car park - it is accessible to the public but you're unlikely to have many issues in leafy Holywood. One other point to note is it is free parking after 6pm so this is the place to park if you're having an evening meal in Holywood.

Dunelm Mill is the hot pot for everything frilly and fancy for furniture and clothing. I recently purchased material to create my own unique range of scarves which I attached to bags, items of clothing and bedroom furniture. The material was quite inexpensive and easily saved me money if I had of went and bought the items from a shop. The store on Boucher Road is pretty large so if you have an idea of what you're looking for hold onto it, as you could easily get distracted you look for it among satin and cotton . Staff at the store are very helpful and can give you advice on what material to choose for different purposes, what measurements you will need as well as what colour schemes work the best.

This retail park doesn't have as many clothing shops as others on the Boucher Road (see my review…read moreon Boucher crescent retail park), and has more sort of practical/big item shops. Here you'll find a few expensive furniture shops, such as Harvey's. It also has a Smyth's toy store, Homebase, Carpetright, Dunelm Mill,... you get the idea. Shane retail park is just a few minutes' drive from Boucher Crescent retail park and has a lot of parking.

One thing to note is this car park is charged so if you are making a journey make sure you have money to pay for parking. This is not a free service. Here's a wee insider tip, this car park only charges Monday to Saturday between 7:30am and 6:30pm so it's free in the evenings - If you're going for a meal in the City this would be an ideal place to park - it's in walking distance across Albert Bridge from most Belfast eateries. Also you might consider this car park if you're attending anything at the SSE, it'll be less crammed than the SSE Car Park and won't charge for evening events - don't say I'm not good to you!

Used park and fly for the first time on the holiday to Croatia we've just returned from. I had…read morechecked out some of the other airport car parks for the same dates and times a good while in advance online (always the best way to find the most competitive prices) and found that this airport owned and run facility was offering the best prices. The main long stay car park was much more expensive for the same times and so that was ruled out (I've parked there quite a few times but this was our first peak season trip in years and it was much more expensive than off peak). We flew out on the 2nd of July and arrived at the car park shortly after 4am. When you book you input your car reg which a scanner detects and automatically opens the entry and exit barriers as you drive up to them which is a great touch. The bus was there promptly and the friendly and courteous driver had us over to the front door very quickly. The car park was very near to capacity and I had to drive some distance from the shuttle bus drop off/pick to find a space. This could cause problems for anyone for whom walking a long distance, especially with baggage and in the rain/early hours, may be difficult. To compound this the parking spots themselves where not well marked, just a white white line on the road marking the entry to each space, so many cars didn't leave much space between them. The spaces themselves are loose stones that have not been maintained for some time and had become sunken in places which filled up with water and mud, meaning some may have to walk the full length of a parking row without being able to take a short cut between cars. The loose stones are also spread across the driving surface which may increase the chances of cars driving passed and stones being flicked up and causing some damage. All in all this would have been a 5* service if they just did some surfacing work and perhaps the bus could take you closer to your car instead of one pick up/drop off potentially quite a distance from your car.

The Hi Park might not be too well known in Belfast but it is on the site of the old Inn Shops opposite the entrance of Waring Street. I parked here whilst setting up my event at Alley Cat and that gives an idea of just how central this car park is. The tariff is pretty cheap too, it cost me £7 to park from 5pm - 10:30pm (The car park closes at 11pm on weeknights and is well manned by security guards.) On entrance you're given a wee card and have to feed this card in to the machines on your return. Luckily these machines accept credit card and coins so you won't be left stranded.
