I took my truck in to have cooling system flushed and new motorcraft antifreeze(provided by me) put in. I was hesitant to allow them to do the work after finding out that they use tap water instead of distilled or better yet de-ionized water(automobile industry recommended). The problem with tap water is it will induce corrosion throughout the entire engine cooling system. I wasted $200 bucks between labor and antifreeze. I will now go to Tri-cities to a business that will drain/flush and replace antifreeze with distilled water(2 weeks after Autokool did their inferior work) another couple hundred bucks but peace of mind. Also the person that was bothered to get away from his newspaper to work on my truck, used a worm screw clamp where the reusable clamp that applies equal pressure to the hose had been(charged me for the inferior clamp he put on) either he's not smart enough to remove the new style clamps and reuse or? Anyway he completed his hack job in about 40 minutes and got right back to his newspaper. Must of been a good article because he couldn't be unconvinced to discuss the work he performed. These guys did good work for me. I was on the road from Portland when my radiator sprung a leak. After I got towed to this place, they fixed me up with a new radiator near the end of the day and got me back on the road in about an hour. While I was waiting, I had a great conversation with the owner about the town and everything. He was obviously super-connected to everything going on there. After replacing the majority of the parts in my A/C system for my Jeep I brought it to this place to get leak tested and charged. 20 min later the guy calls and says I need to stop back by. He tells me that the line is blocked and there is a "filter" in the line and that all needs to be replaced (line and filter), he says I also need to replace my fan clutch because it's not cooling the engine enough. After talking with him he makes it sound like he can do it all for 300-400$ (replace everything and recharge the system) Which is a decent price for the work to be done and I schedule an appt for the following week. When I walk in the door for my appt they hand me the bill for 600$ saying that they couldn't get the parts for as low as they quoted me. After checking around for prices I found that they were trying to charge me a 50% + mark up on parts and they wanted to charge me for over 2 hours of work at 80$ an hour. To start with the work shouldn't have taken more than an hour (they tried to tell me that it took all that time because of the fittings which really aren't that hard to disconnect) second - I am a skilled craftsman and I don't get paid 80$ an hour. After stopping at a local parts store I found out that this place has a history of trying to gouge their customers. So I called a recommended mechanic who said that the filter in the line is the only part that needed to be replaced not the whole line and if my Jeep has not had any issues with overheating I did not need the fan clutch. Which could easily be replaced at a later time if I had trouble overheating with the a/c in operation. After its all said and done the total cost of parts is 2.20$ His labor is 50$ an hour and it won't take him an hour to replace the part and charge the system. This place has lost my business not only will I never stop there again I will do my best to make sure others are aware of his dishonest business. read more

I go here specifically because it is a friend of the family's business. Our A/C pump blew out on our drive home from Nebraska. I called auto kool and Rhonda got me in right away the next day. Everything seemed fine. 4 days later my husband drove to Oregon to go hunting. After 3 days of having the truck sit, he fired it up and "BOOM!" The Ac pump blew out again. I called auto kool and once again they got me right in to investigate the problem. They installed a new Ac pump once again and sent me on my way. The next weekend headed off to hunt camp again we smelled something getting hot so we turned off the Ac because we didn't want to blow up another pump or loose any anti freeze. The truck sat for 3 days and we fired it up. The whole way from John day to the tri cities we had no Ac. I called auto kool yet again. They once again got me right in and found that the relay switch needed to be replaced due to burning out.
