Have you ever been new in town? And you get a recommendation for something because you do not know…read moreropes. The recommendation comes from a friend so you trust it. Right? So we go to this place for a new bumper. We get up-sold a full service for the motor of our car. We don't know the ropes so we trust. Life is always a bit of trial and error when you don't know. Its actually one of the beauties of stepping into the unknown. You get shaken up from the familiar. No more stagnation. Everything feels more. Anyway we learnt some valuable lessons from agreeing to the upsell of this full service: 1. Don't ever get a service from a body shop 2. Don't agree to cash - we paid $500US and did not receive an invoice ( see point number 1) 3. Shop around even if you are new and do not speak the language well. There are super honest, hard working and knowledgeable people everywhere in Mexico. We needed to find out that the going rate at the high end is $300 BEFORE we agreed to anything ( see point number 1) 4. Don't go to a body shop frequented by expats and gringos. 5. There are two economies in Mexico - expats and locals. While expats help fuel the economy, resentments run high and its all about the money not the love. If you are stuck between a rock and a hard place no one wins. 6.if you plan to live in a place , learn to speak the language, learn to decode the place. Make local friends. They can give you better recommendations 7. You can be right and you can still lose. If the lesson is not an expensive one, say your piece and walk away and learn the lesson ( see point number 1) 8. Dont go Humaya unless you are very clear or someone else is paying for it . Thats my recommendation.
