Shawn is an excellent mechanic who diagnosed my starter problem and was a bulldog getting it rebuilt and back on the road. His shop is in a very nice area of Cabo. He is honest and very hard working. I would trust him again.

After driving my 2005 BMW X5 down to its new home in San Jose it started to make horrible squealing noises which I thought was a bad alternator bearing or the tensor belt bearings (I wish) after replacing these the noise continued along with blowing smoke on startups. I was able to google the likely cause to a plugged PCV valve. After finding out that this was actually an 'ugly' job requiring the removal of the intake manifold I really needed a good mechanic - with good English. I found out that most of the local automotive shops don't have mechanics trained for engine work. I had seen Shawn's ad in the Gringo Gazette and found this site on yelp with the great reviews. I was able to get ahold of Shawn right away and he understood what was involved as he had done this job previously. He ordered the parts right away and got to work. Shawn updated me on the progress of the work and sent pictures as well. I picked it up today and I think Shawn was just as happy as me that this complicated repair turned out so well. BTW he has a new engine analyzer and cleared all of my engine check codes. He also got my AC working properly and rotated my tires. The work was fairly priced (less than I had expected for this job) I will definitely use Shawn's services again! Larry - San Jose Del Cabo

I have used Shawn to repair a couple of my vehicles and I am very pleased with his results. I have recommended him to many friends and they have been pleased with him also. I think his business is officially called "Shawn's Automotive". Here are a couple of my experiences. About a year and a half ago my son and I drove down to Cabo. In Loreto the check engine light came on and our van started running rough. It was sputtering and lacked power. If we kept it rolling at 55mph it was ok, but when we slowed down it stalled. It was a nightmare. I don't speak enough Spanish to get my car fixed in a smaller town so we just forced the van the seven hours to Cabo. I was able to get it to our place and it sat there for three months while I called mechanics and tried different things. We had no success. Finally, my wife found a listing for Shawn and I gave him a call. He was great. We got the van to him and he got right to work on it. He called or texted almost every day that he worked on it. He diagnosed the problem and he fixed my van. It was major (broken valve spring). He had to take the heads off the motor. I am very happy to say that he successfully fixed my van. It has no check engine lights or codes and it is running great. I am very pleased. Three months ago I drove Baja again and my truck flashed a huge warning that I had no oil pressure. I was able to milk it down to Cabo but took it to Shawn the next day. He got right on it. After we got him the right parts my truck is running better than before I brought it to him. Once again, I am very pleased with Shawn's results.

Shawn is a great resource for Americans and Canadians in the Los Cabos area. Whether it's diagnostic, mechanical or maintenance, Shawn can fix it... and if it's a specialty he's better off referring you to someone else, he's honest enough to do so. Great guy, fair pricing, knowledgeable and has a great network of amigos in the trade Highly recommended!. read more

In my experience, it isn't easy to find a trustworthy, competent mechanic in any country, so finding Shawn was a Baja miracle. My 2000 Jeep Cherokee seemed like it might be on its last legs, so I asked Shawn to check it out to see if it was worth fixing. He assured me it was, and I now have what feels like a brand new vehicle. His prices are fair, and his communication is straightforward, just the facts, ma'am. As an aside, he's also friendly and has a great sense of humor. Your vehicle and your wallet would be in safe hands with Shawn! read more

Shawn is great! Several unrelated issues started happening with my US VW car around the same time and Shawn was the only mechanic that actually investigated and resolved the variety of issues (transmission, engine, spark plugs, gas consumption). He resolved each one as it came up and always tried to help get it done in a fair and economical way. I appreciate that he is fair and straightforward and if it was something that required more specialized parts/repair (VW transmissions) he took it to the appropriate specialist so that issue could be fixed correctly without wasting anyone's time or money. I appreciate those qualities in a person and mechanic and hands down recommend Shawn over any other mechanic shop (big, small, dealership, etc) that I have come across in my 9 years in Los Cabos. read more

Shawn was great! He came out to my house and drove my car off to his shop. My car had bottomed out and needed some significant repairs. Shawn located someone to help do the welding and was extremely helpful and honest in telling me what was happening and charged a very fair price. I felt really safe working with him and I feel lucky to have found him in Baja. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family and hope that you have as great an experience as I have!! read more

The best number for Shawn is his cell: +52 624 175 8750 The address on this page is not accurate. I needed a new exhaust. Shawn took a look and escorted me to another business he recommended. Shawn introduced me, helped negotiate and went on his merry way. I got a full brand new exhaust system for my truck for $150 in 1.5 hours. Vey happy as I thought I would pay a lot more for this and it would be a painful experience. read more

Shawn is incredible. We were two women who drove to Cabo from Loreto when the car started making noise. Shawn was busy but took care of our problem right away. It was the muffler, which he does not repair at his shop. He took us to the muffler repair that he knows, stayed the whole time for the replacement of the muffler and then checked to make sure all was well with the car. He was our savior of the day. Now we can breathe easy for our trip back to Loreto. read more

Our Check Engine Light came on while driving back from Cabo San Jose. We nursed the car back home and after searching Yelp, contacted Shawn the next morning. Shawn drove over to our house that morning, ran a couple of diagnostic programs, picked up some parts and had the car up and running by mid afternoon. While he was here he checked the car over for any potential issues and gave us a rundown on some recommended repairs. This was a used car that we picked up cheap in Cabo couple of years ago and we didn't have a good feel for what might be leerking out there repair wise. Shawn was able to do the additional maintenance repairs and get our car back to us in two days. I have a lot more confidence driving this car around southern Baja now. read more

I was in a world of hurt when the "check engine" light came on while driving from La Paz to Cabo. Uh oh. And this was on a Sunday. I did a quick Google search and found Shawn's Automotive. I sent Shawn a Whatsapp message early Monday morning explaining my situation, that I was on the road and I was requesting immediate attention. Shawn's response was to come on in and he included an electronic map, which I found extremely useful because there was no way I would have been able to locate his shop on my own. Shawn ran a diagnostic program and immediately determined the source of my woes - a loose vacuum hose. And although Shawn could have told me I needed a new transmission or an engine rebuild, he instead he showed me where the vacuum hose had come loose and the position it should be in. Total time, in and out, about 10 minutes. Before departing, Shawn also inspected my gas cap, which I learned sometimes results in a "check engine" warning. He recommended replacing the gas cap because the seal was beginning to wear. Have no fear, Shawn is very, very ethical, extremely responsive and knowledgeable. A + Here is Shawn's number: 624 175 8750 Here is Shawn's address: Calle Bahía Magdalena S/N 23453 Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur Mexico This is the navigation app (WAZE) that I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waze&hl=es_MX&gl=US read more

We drove our GMC truck to Cabo from Los Angeles believing reports that all diesel fuel in Baja was ULSD (ultra low sulfur). Upon arriving, our truck set codes for bad fuel, and entered reduced power mode. Faced with having the truck towed back to Los Angeles, we contacted several local mechanics, including the Chevy dealer in Los Cabos. None could or would provide the technical skills to replace the fuel and reset the truck's computer. Spotted Shawn's Automotive on Yelp, and gave him a call. He saved the day, and our vacation! Came to our resort, picked up the truck, and returned it with proper fuel and all of the codes cleared and settings restored. He found the correct fuel, secured for us containers, had them and the truck filled up, and saw us in our way. We cannot say enough about Shawn's knowledge and quality customer service. He kept us informed, and allowed us to enjoy our vacation while he took care of the problem. We would recommend him to anyone needing help with their vehicle, be it an emergency or for normal service while in Los Cabos. read more

It couldn't have been any simpler. Saw the other Yelp review that had Shawn,s mobile (624) 175-8750. Our 1990 RV had a leaky fuel pump and I called Shawn. An hour later he was at our hotel in Cabo San Lucas, confirmed the diagnosis, had his helper pull off the pump. It took a day to get the part and poof next day we were back and running. Thanks Shawn! Job well done. read more

Don't be dissuaded by the appearance of the shop, noting the dirt floor and "stuff". In January, just before we were leaving CSL after our annual three week holiday visit, my vehicle (1999 Ford Expedition) began running very rough. Since I am a "car guy" keeping my vehicle clean including the engine compartment is mandatory. My first thought was that water might have gotten into the plugs when I cleaned the engine compartment. I looked on Yelp for a mechanic and found Shawn. After taking the vehicle to him and having him go through it overnight (to clean or replace plugs) he determined that the problem was the injectors at the least and not a plug problem We were leaving that day, and against my wife's sceptic thoughts, I left the vehicle with Shawn for repair. I keep the vehicle in a garage adjacent to the airport in San Jose del Cabo. After completing the repairs, Shawn returned the vehicle to my garage. Nine months later (October 14th) I returned and went to my garage. While I needed to replace the battery, the vehicle started up immediately and is running perfectly smooth. I am very pleased with Shawn's work and his honesty. read more
