I've truly enjoyed working with Kristine and Michael at Markon Brand Designs. Building a brand is…read moremore than just picking a name, it's about defining my business in print. Although I can creatively design a wedding or party, I have no graphic design background so I went on the hunt for a marketing company that could help. Doing my due diligence, I contacted several local companies, but really liked Kristine right from the initial meeting! After talking to a couple of her current clients about the service they provided, I was sold and our partnership began! The only thing I knew for certain was there needed to be the color Orange represented in my branding somewhere. Markon delivered a group of logos featuring birch trees, branches, origami cranes and a wonderful color palette of grays and, yes, ORANGE! I've really become attached to one of them in particular, the round logo with the large orange crane, for its simplicity and ease of use in different mediums. My next favorite is the forest graphic with 1000 STORIES printed boldly and a smaller, yet very present, orange crane. But having an entire brand suite available ensures the brand identity will remain strong. Kristine and Michael have continued to deliver projects, as promised, on time and I am looking forward to working with them on the next task of a store-front sign and then whatever else I find I need, I know I have a partner that will bring it to life and continue to strengthen the 1000 STORIES brand.

I originally chose Markon because Jennifer sounded very knowledgable and professional in the short five minute initial inquiry I had about a flag/banner I was hoping to have printed. I had the design and asked various questions about how we could get to my end goal. Email communication was their preferred method and I was ok with that since it saved me travel time and it was convenient. I emailed her my hand sketch and the computer graphic version. It was then passed to their graphic designer. She made her copy that would allow the image to be blown up without loss of detail. At this point I noticed several areas that I was not happy with in the image. We emailed back and forth, every time if a problem was corrected another problem would come up. This ranged from white spots on solid color areas, not centered, wrong base color, lettering not looking uniform and white outlines/shadows that looked like computer glitches. I worked with them over the course of a week trying to come to a compromise. I had pretty much given up on the final product being everything I was hoping for. As the deadline for final approval was approaching I decided to visit their location for in person interaction, hoping to clear up whatever was causing the miscommunication. A paper print was made and I indicated the issues I had with the image. The following image they sent me was the wrong back ground color again, it had been correct for a few proofs, and there were whited out patches in a different area. The email indicated this was the final attempt they would be making. I wasn't satisfied with a wrong color banner with white spots so I called them. Jennifer was the opposite of our initial communication. She wouldn't let me finish sentences, kept insisting I just email my changes and put me on hold twice without telling me why. The second hold Sabrina answered and while she didn't interrupt me or cut me off she also insisted that email was the way to solve my dissatisfaction. I finally agreed. Before I could email them they emailed me saying they could no longer work with my project because it was too detailed and my deposit was refunded. I'm blown away by this sudden change. One day before finalizing to print. Meaning I have no opportunity to find an alternate company. If the project was too difficult I feel that stating this openly in the beginning would have been a much preferred. As it is, I leave Markon feeling they lack integrity and professionalism. Their sudden about face caught me completely by surprise but they at least returned my deposit and are not thieves.

This company really f'd me, twice--hard…read more Gravitate designed my original website, or really my first professional website, at a cost of $12,000 back in 2014. They did a great job, however, they did not make the site responsive. Just a few years after this, we were being pressured to upgrade the site to a responsive site by Google--or risk our SEO rankings. I asked them for a responsive site upgrade, but instead was talked into a site that was based on our explainer video--which is simply a cartoon. They took the cartoonish imagery and designed the site around that. They changed our company colors from red and black to orange and red. They changed our logo to orange from red, and then promptly lost the original logo--I still don't have the original logo. They quoted me $19,000 for this upgrade. Once the site was done and paid for, we launched it live. Our SEO was TRASHED. Leads were about 20% of normal. We went back to the old site after a week. My business was dying. Leads returned to old levels immediately. I'm not sure what went wrong with that site, but I believe it had something to do with the design. My customers are all baby-booming Trump supporters who probably didn't like the cartoonish nature of my new site and were turned away. Either that, or the site wasn't set up properly to keep my SEO in place. Gravitate would not help. They would not provide a refund. So, I lost the 19 grand. Poof, gone. No apology, nothing. I ended up finding a different company to complete the upgrade, and they did a great job. Unfortunately, this new company required a $3000/mo retainer AFTER completion, and did not inform me of this prior to the site build. So, I ended up leaving this company and was left WITHOUT a web designer. Eventually the site needed help with a plug in. I had nowhere to turn. I went to them, hat in hand, and asked them to help, but I was turned away. I reminded them about a referral I had given them that resulted in literally HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars in revenue. They went ahead and helped me out with this issue, and a few other small issues over time. They built a pricing page for me for $1200 as well. Well time passed and eventually they stopped responding to my emails and phone calls. Literally ignoring them. They won't reply to me anymore. I had two major issues I needed help with. The first, any tiny change to my website would result in problems--HTML showing up on the page and other structural problems. Also, the form company plugin they had installed no longer worked when updated, which was a serious security flaw. I was told (when they were still replying to me) that the plug-in issue could not be solved, that an entirely new form would have to be set up. They did not offer a solution for either problem, basically saying it would be too expensive to fix. Well, I recently happened to find a new web designer through my Zoho consultant. He fixed both problems in less than 30 minutes, and didn't even charge me. Also, if you are considering a project with this company, check out their reviews on Glassdoor. The way a company treats its employees should tell you all you need to know about them.

I needed to find a firm that was going to be constantly changing and evolving along with Google. I was pretty desperate for a solution when I found Webfor. They gave me no promises for instant success and said it would take time (I appreciated the honesty). The proposal they gave me was only slightly higher than what I was paying at the other firm so I was happy with the price. It has been almost a year and I have number 1 ranking under my key term and other terms have also seen great improvement. I also have them manage my ad words account and they have done a great job making some cost saving changes to it. I also have them doing a redesign of my website which will launch this week. A got one other bid but only as an exercise because at this point I would not trust my web presence with anyone else. I meet with my rep in person once a month to review our progress. I know some will see this as an advantage. I don't know if it matters, but I like keeping my money local. I am currently experiencing a problem with my Google places listing. This is normally something that would have caused me great stress, but now I don't have to even worry about because I know they are on top of it.
