We really debated on whether to stay in one of the hill towns or in an agriturismo, and we're really glad we made the decision to stay here. It's centrally located within Tuscany and it was fairly easy to get around to all of the hill towns (whereas if you stay in the hill towns, there are parking issues and it can take a while to get in/out of the congestion). The hospitality at Fonte Bertusi can't be beat -- everyone is extremely nice, helpful and prompt in addressing any questions or concerns. The breakfast is great, but would advise that you come on the earlier side, as we were the last ones in a few times and some of the items were gone. Also be sure to try the cappuccino with the egg foam -- my husband is now an addict. The apartments also come with enough kitchen supplies to be able to make light meals. We made pici three out of our four nights at home without a problem of missing any key utensils or dinnerware. The only downside is that it was raining a lot while we were there and it was somewhat chilly (not the fault of the hosts, obviously), so we weren't able to enjoy the outside areas as much as we were hoping to. It would be heavenly to be there during warmer weather and read in the back area and share a bottle of wine during a sunset. And with the rain, there was a bit of a damp smell in the apartment sometimes, but fortunately opening the windows usually aired it out.

We stayed here four nights and used this location as a base to visit other small quaint towns in the Tuscany region. Cortona is old with very narrow cobblestone streets and great views. Our room was spacious and quiet and everything worked to perfection. Housekeeping kept our room well stocked with supplies. A scrumptious breakfast was offered each morning which did not disappoint. Plenty of options with hot drinks. The staff was very friendly and helpful and assisted on a few occasions in making dinner reservations for us. The price of the hotel was very reasonable. I'm not sure where you would park a car if you drove a car here. Staying in a hotel that is hundreds of years old is truly amazing.

Often truffle is either too subtle or overpowering, but this was perfect! Best focaccia I've had, amazing wines, and some truly scrumptious desserts. I cannot describe this experience without mentioning the amazing staff and Chef Paola. They were fun and thoughtful, and especially accommodating of one of our party's celiac allergy. Paola came out a number of times bringing freshly baked GF bread, GF pasta, and even prepared a custom GF almond cake with custard. She was engaging and supportive, and made them feel comfortable, safe, and uninhibited by the allergy. At the end of the meal they offered us the staff's homemade amaro for free which was delicious and we toasted with them to end the night! Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I have never written a review before but this experience made me want to become a food blogger and write 3 pages on this place! Please go! This is a can't miss in Cortona. The scenery is absolutely stunning, the apartments had good facilities (small kitchen, nice clean bathroom) and there was a nice big swimming pool shared by the apartments. For the wedding a dinner was organised in the castle courtyard with superb food and wine made from the castle vineyards and afterwards we had a big party in the courtyard at first and later between the buildings housing the apartments. For a wedding this is a real idyllic location. For a normal holiday it is also very nice as your pretty close to Sienna, Florence and all kinds of nice Tuscan towns, however you really need a car to get to places. Even if you only want to stay at the castle then you still need to get groceries and since the closest store is at least a few miles away you can't really get there without a car.

Total bill came to 170Euros. ***Please note they take CASH ONLY for payment, they do NOT accept credit cards...we didn't have enough euros and ended up paying what we had in euros and the rest in US dollars. I almost had to drive into town to find nearest ATM. When we sat down complimentary fresh bread and salami plate came out. Also after dessert, complimentary dessert wines (3 different ones) with shot glasses put on table. Some notes 1. All pasta are handmade there. Definitely get Pici because it is special to the Tuscany region of Italy. 2. Pasta dishes are HUGE, you definitely could share. 3. The tomatoes in the caprese dish were like candy, so sweet. 4. The plain tomato sauce was ridiculous....the whole table voted that as best dish. It was so simple yet so good. The quality of the ingredients made a huge difference too. 5. Outside they had apricot and cherry tree and we were allowed to pick to take some home (our kids picked and ate apricots right in the garden). 6. All of us left completely stuffed...the food was so good we didn't want to leave anything but sadly had to. Highly highly recommend.
