I am happy to say that the nice folks at Gerber Collison in Brunswick recommended Bob and his staff at Barnes Auto, in Brunswick. Years ago I had an older car towed to Bob. It needed a new fuel pump. I wasn't going to drop the gas tank on a gravel driveway. Bob called me up prior to replacing the pump. He informed me that the PCM (power control module, the main computer) was bad. And since that part wasn't available he suggested scraping the car. A Saturn station wagon with approximately 295,000 miles had served me well. Lots of other places would have been happy to charge me hundreds of dollars to replace the fuel pump and then call me with the bad news. I recommend Bob and his staff at Barnes Auto to anyone looking for an honest shop where INTEGRITY is more important than a making a quick dollar. Thank you very much Bob, Tammy and the techs in back. I took my Audi in for a routine oil change before driving to Jacksonville, FL. On the drive to Jacksonville, the low-oil annunciator came on due to the low oil level. I stopped and purchased four quarts of oil and added two. The time I killed finding a place to purchase oil almost caused me to miss my trip flying out of JAX. As I arrived at the airport, the engine required adding approximately another quart of oil. I returned my Audi 2 times to address the excessive oil leak issues at the oil plug, and I showed them pictures of where it was leaking. This should have been a no-brainer issue to repair. Twice after returning the vehicle and keeping the car for several days, they found no issue! I took the SUV to another shop on the South end of the island to have the repair done correctly within 30 minutes. We quickly discovered not only was an oil plug gasket was not installed but the oil-drained plug was stripped out from being over tightened. If a shop can not perform a routine oil change correctly, how can you be trusted to perform complex repairs correctly? Making a mistake is understandable, but not correcting the mistake after two additional times back to the shop is unacceptable.

I missed the small "No Trespassing" sign, and the gate was wide open. While I understand I should have noticed the sign, I was also a paying customer and had no intention of doing anything inappropriate. Instead of being approached with understanding, I was met with intense hostility, sarcasm, and even a threat that a gun could be pulled out. That was incredibly alarming and completely unnecessary. I apologized multiple times and explained that I had simply missed the sign, but there was no grace or professionalism shown throughout the interaction. Everyone has bad days, but the way I was treated was unacceptable. Because of this experience, I will never return to this shop.

These guys shouldn't be trusted. They fail to take responsibility for botched repairs…read more In my case after we spent over $1,500 fixing an oil leak and replacing the timing belt/water pump. We repeatedly asked them to give the car a once over. It is a new used purchase and we were needing to decide how much to invest in the car for repairs. They failed to give the car a proper once over and told us that the car was decent and just needed a replacement of cam seals, timing belt and water pump. $1,300 dollars later the car was still leaking oil! The repairs did nothing to fix the problem, which was the oil leak. I presume they made an assumption of where the oil was coming from and that they did not check the variable valve timing...which is where the car was leaking oil. It ended up costing us another $1k to fix the repairs because of their, I presume, negligence. On top of replacing the variable valve timing we had to replace the timing belt again because it was covered in oil, which cause the belt to breakdown. Just to be safe we replaced all of the seals they said they replaced. My experience with them is not unique. I know of one other person who ended up with a dead car after Dixie Dan's replaced this persons timing belt. The belt busted. And, like usual, they failed to take responsibility. Over the phone in discussion about the situation with one of the Dan's he said something like "you can't blame the doctor if they don't catch what's wrong." But, you can.
