Not only did he grab a bunch of maps and brochures for our huge crowd, once he realized what we were looking to do, he grabbed a bunch of flashlights and joined us. He was very informative, not only about the events that took place here, but also about the land itself. Everything from edible mushrooms to salamanders, all sorts of wildlife and plants. And lots of fun stories! He joked around with us and the 16 kiddos we brought along, had fun conversations, and we even made sure to snap a photo or two of and with him. As for the mountain, it's very historical for the civil war period. Every family vacation we go on we find a place that's not only historical but also dubbed as being haunted. A little two for one deal. Caught lots of fun things on pic and recording. Had a nice hike around. Went through the trenches, explored a cave, looked out over the landscape, found the horse burial grounds, toured the tiny little museum, found lots of little critters. It was a fun day for our group that ranged from ages 2 to 40. After our hike we did drive up to the lookout as well, and let the little one play on the playground. They do have bathrooms there. Well, a hole in the ground, but it does the job! Everyone had a good time! Would love to go back again one day!

I love to go here and hike with my own kids. The area is so quiet and so lovely, extremely peaceful. I always leave feeling refreshed and alive. I love to walk calmly through the forest and think. When I was a kid, I would pretend to be an indian or a pioneer, sometimes an escaping captive fleeing through the woods. I have always had an overwhelming creative imagination. The park is lovely to camp in and great locations for fishing. No huge waterfalls but still nice small ones. If you are like me, you just enjoy being outside!!!

Company store had a plethora of items for all ages; hubby had a field day!! Beautiful area and very remote . Bus tours came daily, but not excessive as seating on the trains is limited, so good crowd control lol These trips book up months in advance; my husband booked it a year ago so don't drive up thinking you can get a seat. Three trips: ( different Shay locomotives too, but I am not the expert with this). 1. Bald Knob : a 4.5 hour train ride up the mountain. It was an open car, and it was pretty cold, even for those prepared. The scenery was pretty but I saw zero wildlife. We were going to have a hot cocoa, but after waiting on line for over 10 minutes, they ran out. There was a guy reading over the P.A., giving some history. They give you a " hobo lunch" : bun, turkey and ham, pasta salad, applesauce, chips, water bottle, 2 cookies and mustard and mayo. Bring additional snacks/ drinks as it's a long trip...and gloves and hats if during fall trips. 2. Greenbriar River: a more pleasant ride, 2.5-3 hours, enclosed car with table seating. Narrated as well at parts, but P.A. was terrible. Lunch was at a restaurant ( make your own sandwiches) in Durbin, our stop, and there were three choices which they determined. Saw 2 turtles and one bird. Highlight was meeting the people who Sartre across from us. 3. Whittaker Station: about a 2.5 hour trip, also on an open car. This trip had the most informative and interesting narration of the three. Got my hot cocoa lol and some pretty photos. Interesting town history. A cool experience for train buffs and company houses are available to stay in. Beautiful area.

Honestly our ride was awful. What was supposed to be a 4.5 hour trip ended up being 6 hours. When we were stopped with what I assume was some breakdown, no one said anything or told us what was going on. Instead we sit there looking at woods for what seemed like forever. Then on the way back we stopped at the Whitaker overlook, why I have no idea. No one told us we were stopping, we had no idea how long we were stopping for. The only reason I can gather is so you all could make more money at your concessions and most of us were cold and wanted to get back and instead we're left waiting for idiots too selfish for their nachos or hot chocolate and wouldn't come back to the train when the whistle was blown. They should've left without them. We had reservations at a bed and breakfast and were charged extra because we weren't able to get back before check in hours. It was honestly a miserable trip. I hope that they improve the way they conduct trips in the future as this could've been such an enjoyable trip. Also, we visited the general store the next day (had to make the 45 minute trip back to Cass since there was no time to visit the shops after getting in so late the day before) and made a significantly large purchase after being told that yes they give military discounts but after the clerk processed our sale she said "oops, I forgot to give you your discount", with no suggestion that she rering the sale to include the discount. Just the cherry on the top of a disappointing visit to Cass. The only good thing about the whole trip was a nice man named Danny who let us see the informative video in the theater earlier than the official next showing which wasn't for another hour.

Both my sons were campers at Twin Creeks and my oldest son went many years and then became a…read morecounselor because he loved it so much. The camp directors are warm and welcoming people. My son has made long-lasting friendships there. It is a rustic setting in a lovely spot and there are lots an activities, including an overnight camping trip. Lots of kids come there from the Washington, DC area and Richmond area but there are also kids and counselors who come from overseas. I'd highly recommend it as a true summer camp experience in a beautiful natural setting.

What a wonderful place and great staff We visited this…read morelocation in the offseason. It is situated at the intersection of WV 39 and WV 150. Driving through the intersection off of WV 150 takes you into the entrance of the park. The street is called Cranberry Vista and winds up the hill and into a couple of fair-sized parking lots. The challenge with visiting on the off-season is that it may be closed. Please check your dates and whether it is open when you visit. We were very lucky because after we parked and tried the door, we saw the sign that it was closed but a very nice lady who happened to be working inside came to the door and explained about the nearby parks and gave us suggestions as to places to visit like the Glades (just down the road). There are many places to see from this location that are not very far by car. It is a great place to start your exploration of the area. I plan to return during the season just to visit the shop and center but I would still recommend this place due to our wonderful experience with their excellent staff who cared enough to open up and talk to us even though they were closed.

The counselors are really nice and supportive. They are there if you need anything and help make you feel at home. I made friends with the other campers there, and we can't wait to go back next year. I liked the cabins - they're cozy and the beds are comfortable. If you have any food allergies, like you're gluten-free, dairy-free, or sugar-free, they accommodate that and will have food options for you. They have dance parties on Friday nights, movies on Saturday nights, and the other nights are just as fun with other activities, like sing-alongs or they'll have "Cabin Nights" where you do fun stuff with your cabin, like baking or making bracelets. It's a good idea to stay for at least two weeks for your first summer. I highly recommend it!

Massive disappointment. I have gone to this camp for many years, and the way camp was managed this…read moreyear was unacceptable. People were refused Covid tests unless they had 3 or more symptoms, EVEN WITH HIGH FEVERS. My friend got sick with what they called the "camp cold." They had a high fever and were coughing, but they were refused Covid tests or basic medication beyond a very limited supply of cough drops, as they camp somehow only had one bag. One bag. For a camp of over 150. They were then left in the cabin, which had heavy insulation and a non-functional fan. Because of this, the cabin got very hot during the day and they were left to melt inside. After camp, I learned that their parents had received NOTHING informing them that their child was sick and miserable. Their were also many cases of Covid (though their were most likely more that had not been tested) . This camp costs several thousand dollars to go to and I cannot comprehend how they were lacking so many basic necessities. I will not be returning next year, and I do not recommend sending your kids here.
