This was a potential location to live with Boo Boo. Overall, its very expensive for our budget but if you have the money I don't see why not. It's right next to Bloomfield train station, There's a amenities fee for gym that you can use of not use, car parking fee, and if you have pet(s) there's a fee for that. Not every unit have a balcony. I like to have an outdoor space. I don't want to pay up for it. Another downside is that Bloomfield downtown does not have the downtown feel like a Hoboken the Avalon is trying to sell with their fancy depiction on their brochure or poster. You are pretty much living in an apartment that is a stone throw away from your commute to NYC. read more

Do not rent here, other than the wonderful people at the front desk and maintenance , this place is absolutely awful. We lived 10 months constantly being woken up all hours of the night by garbage trucks that come for the restaurants and shops around. They come at 1:30 am, 3 am, 4:45. Nothing the avalon can do. We lived on 4th floor, can hear the 5th floor resident's every move. Customer service does everything they can when its their favor but never in yours, always keeping your money and not doing the right thing when you move out. Stay away! read more

I'll start by saying the apartment itself is great. No complaints. Super cheap utilities and good maintenance team. NYC commute cannot be beat. Do be aware you are getting an apartment in a municipal parking garage complex. Apartment management has little if any control of anything outside the door of the building. If you have a nervous dog - stay away. Very loud and chaotic area especially during rush hour. Dog walking is limited to right around building or a nearby park (nice, but not after dark.) Building has businesses - the bars at the far end tend to have outside partiers on weekends. One of the businesses is a hooters-like restaurant, FYI. No judgement but I will say I am not fan. Disappointing as it is super expensive and I have endured months of construction, fire alarms and noise. read more

I am a current resident at Avalon Bloomfield with nothing but high remarks regarding the location, management,the amenities and maintenance here. My apartment is beautiful. Rent is reasonable. The location is only thirty minutes away from NYC. NJ transit is across the street from the complex. Very convenient . There are several restaurants that are nearby and convenient to go to. We have a fresh coffee spot within our grocery store which is located downstairs. Management here at avalon are very accommodating. They are available and approachable. They will help you as much as they can to make sure you are satisfied. Maintenance are here to help you as well within minutes. They are super supportive and reliable when it comes to fixing or checking anything out. The amenities at avalon are sweet. Summer 16 will be here soon and I can't wait to start on grilling outside of the community lounge area. Which the grill has been provided to the residence for their own convenient. Overall my decision to live here was a choice and a smart choice at that. read more

I am a current resident and I really can appreciate it. Here are the pros: - It's close to the train station. I mean it's literally across the street. Can't get much closer than that. The train goes right to NYC so it's quick access to the city. - There's a washer and dryer in your apartment. That's really nice. Definitely beats having to drag your laundry to a laundromat to wash it. - There's a lot of restaurants near by. While the Chinese restaurants aren't exactly the best in the world, the fact they're steps from your door is nice if you don't want to into the city. - You're right near Glenn Ridge and Montclair so there's plenty of food there if you don't want the food in Bloomfield too. - Delivery notices. Man do I love this feature. When I get deliveries to the front office they send me an email letting me know so I can come pick it up during their business hours. Plus they remember who I am so they go get it right away. - Food delivery. Honestly, using GrubHub and UberEats, I'm addicted. I can get a lot of food delivery. I suppose it's because of NJ in general, but because they are centrally located, it makes it super easy. Now for the cons: - Noise. They are right near bars and the fire department/police department so it's unfortunately pretty noisy and having your windows open isn't always possible. read more

So I been living here for 10 months. I received my renewal notice on the 26th and have 10 days to respond, feel like they are rushing me. Then they want to increase my rent by just under 12%. Which I guess I been out of the renewal game because I was expecting 5%. My apt is on Washington and Lackawanna, over Essex junction and tilted kilt. I wish I new about the noise problem when I moved in, might have thought twice. So I called the police about 5 Times not including all the other times I thought calling them, because of the noise coming from downstairs. Essex junction likes to throw parties till about 1 or 2 am and have the music and bass blaring. You can feel the bass drops from the 5th floor. And both restaurants have patrons and employees who like to hang out I. The street and yell after closing(. Again closing is at 1am. Pros: across the street from the train to nyc. Clean and friendly staff. Cons: the unknown rent increase, when I moved in I was told fair market value. The restaurant noise, and parking is starting to suck. Nothing has been done for me, to rectify the noise issue though they told me their is litigation again the a restaurant because of noise. But that does me no good. And basically Avalon doesn't warrant an increase, I deserve a decrease if I want to be truthful, but this is reality, so I guess I move on and find a place that quiet but comparable. I have been a resident here for 8 months, and I have had nothing but a positive experience here. The apartment is beautiful, our amenities are lovely and so well maintained. Our gym is great, and who doesn't love being able to save money not purchasing a gym membership. The commute to the city is great as well. The maintenance team is always available to help with any apt concerns or mishaps. Their response time is extremely speedy, and they go the extra mile to assist you in other things, even things that are not exactly within their job description. For example, If you needed help hanging a painting or a light fixture in your apt they would help you in a heartbeat. The leasing office staff is a dream. They are so kind and caring and dedicated to making everyone's experience here better than what we all even expected it could be. In my past experiences with leasing office staff, I've never been so comfortable just walking into the office and talking to the staff about anything and everything, but at Avalon Bloomfield Station, I am. There has even been a tenant forum set up so that tenants could voice their concerns about the apt, and the leasing team and management have done their best to fix and assess every tenant's concern. I am so grateful for them. They are also concerned with every tenant getting to know one another, and have set up a few community events to get the tenants together. My boyfriend and I lived in Avalon for almost two years now and have really no complaints. Yes the price is a bit expensive but you're literally in walking distance to the NJT train and/or bus stops with plenty stores surrounding you. Convenience is what you're paying for. Also, whenever issues arise within our apartment, it's always resolved quickly by maintenance. Luis is one of the best Avalon maintenance workers we know and super helpful in explaining what the issue is. Christian and Octavia were always helpful in any of our inquiries from the very start. With New Jersey Transit trains at our backdoor taking frequent trips into the city for museums, plays, and concerts was seamless. Our apartment was beautiful and if any issues arose for maintenance Anthony, Andy and Luis addressed things quickly and efficiently. We especially appreciated the care and support from the licensing office. Christen and Nav answered our questions with friendliness and professionalism. ****Do not move in this building, it is not worth it. I wished I was warned before. Avalon is desperate for money. First off, you should not expect to get any portion of your security deposit back. They will also charge you additional fees which you cannot protest. Instead of clarifing said fees they will send your account to collections. I have made numerous account to rectify fees charged to my account but no one ever got back to me . I will fight these people to the very end even if it ends up costing me because they should not get away with doing this to residents ********* If you are still interested in the building, there are additional pros and cons below. 1) This building is situated right across from the New Jersey Transit train, which makes for an easy commute to NYC. 2) The building is very new, so the apartments are in decent condition -Although the materials used to build the cabinet are very cheap. My kitchen cabinets fell apart a few times, but maintenance did come by to fix it. 3) The people in the leasing office are very helpful, but the turnover rate is high. There is always someone new, so I am thinking that they don't treat their employees fair. 4) The building can be very noisy. Depending on where your apartment is located, you will have noise coming in from the trains outside, from the businesses downstairs and even noise coming from your neighbors above you ( The floors are very thin and the carpet does not help with the noise). This is particularly painful if you have a baby and live below a "late nighter". 5) If you decide that you can deal with the noise, make sure they show you the exact apartment that you will live in and not just a model, as the location of the apartment makes a huge difference. 6) The elevators are often broken, so I am constantly trying to find creative ways to get upstairs to my apartment. 7) Parking spots are not assigned (although there is a monthly parking fee), you will have to compete with commuters for parking spot if you follow regular business hours. The parking structure belongs to Bloomfield and is shared with the public. * Your guests also pay the hourly rate for parking. 8) Package delivery is a hit and misses, as they sometimes go missing. 9) It is a pet friendly building, but you will have to pay $500 non-refundable deposit, plus $50 a month per pet. 10) Advice, don't give the lady often outside the building any money. She is a con artist and come up with creative stories to get your money. read more

ok let me start by saying that we REALLY, REALLY wanted to like it here. We moved from Brooklyn to the "burbs" because I am pregnant and were looking for an easy commute into the city and a good apartment layout. We had to leave after 6 weeks due to the below issues. PROS -- apartment layouts. A+. we looked at almost a dozen new buildings and this was by far the best layouts. Hallways, full size laundry machines, large bathrooms and bedrooms. Compared to the usually 900q ft square layout of most new construction of 2br's it was a massive improvement. Again we really wanted to stay and live here - we thought the space and flow and light was terrific. -- commute - train across the street and grocery store below. Very good for working professionals. -- management office was vey accommodating and easy going. My only caveat is below regarding being told about where certain apartments are in the complex. CONS -- The Tilted Kilt. I can't even begin to tell how much of a problem this "pub" is. It's basically a Hooters with girls is tartans. To each their own right? Well that would be fine except if you live on the side with them you get to begin every day with their outdoor speakers gearing up from 10am - 11pm BLASTING their music into your apartment. You also get the girls outside all day and patrons sitting smoking into your apartment being loud. There are signs asking for no outside seating after 10pm - but we aware they DO NOT enforce it. Also there is "biker night". Which basically means you have dozens of motorcycles encircling the streets till 1am. I can't stress how bad this was. I have lived over bars before in NYC and this was just another level o of noise pollution. To make it worse the bar just DOES NOT CARE. please I can't stress this enough. Our breaking point (besides biker night) was when they were blasting the acoustic cover band in the INSIDE thru the outdoor speakers. It was like being held hostage at a really bad Oasis outdoor concert - again at 1030pm at night, on a Wednesday. Oh and did I mention the randoms that will just sit at the outdoor tables at all hours of the night? There is a bouncer there but they must not tell him to enforce any of the rules because he doesn't care either. Also on the weekends they have games all day like throw the beanbag or something. It's loud. We were really let down by management because i wanted to make sure the apartment we got was NOT over the Tilted Kilt. I was reassured several times but alas - when we came to move in we were DIRECTLY over the bar. BEWARE. Because of this we knew we could use our avalon 30 day guarantee to leave if it was that bad. Well let me tell you - moving again and paying for movers a second time in 6 weeks and having to find another apartment (we changed towns to South Orange, much better) was not in my agenda but there was NO WAY I could see ourselves with a baby there and my husband not going downstairs to yell at people when they are still going at it outside at midnight/1am (yes this happens often). -- Packages. This is the fourth "luxury" building we've lived in from Jersey City to Long Island City to Brooklyn and they really shouldn't call themselves that at all. I have never been in a building with so many units where there as no centralized packaging system. The issue lies in that there are actually 3 different addresses for the building so depending where you live in the complex your package is left in that lobby. There is no real security and packages are just left for anyone to peruse. Because there is no virtual mailbox or any type of screen everyone just looks at all the labels looking for their things so essentially if you were getting something delivered from somewhere nice it may walk. Sometimes the packages are collected and left in the leasing office - which is great except they open at 10 and close by 6 and we are never home during those hours since we work in the city. and they are closed sun/mon. So If you get a package friday and you don't get home by 6 or you're out of town on saturday you're waiting till tuesday after work. annoying. again I don't get why this wasn't planned out. -- Neighborhood. Meh. There is a great mexican place and a 24 hour diner a few blocks away but that's about it. lots of dollar stores and nail salons. again if you're ok with driving/parking in montclair to go out then it's ok. no real trees or green space and I'm not too sure about Watessing park after dark. The Essex Junction place is ok but overpriced food wise. -- Common areas. The outdoor space is way TOO SMALL for a building of this size. Also the main party room that can be rented out is basically all the common space avail (we've lived places where the rentable space was separate and that works). We never once got a BBQ or played pool because on the weekends it was always full of people that had "rented it out". There is no way to prove this so you just had to leave. read more

Edit: Thank you for the canned response Avalon. Since posting this review there have been several more noise issues from the patio even on Sunday nights. Changing this to a 1-star until some actual progress is made towards fixing the noise problem. Pros: * Beautiful building, all new furnishings and a nicely modern style. * Very nice gym included as a small fee. * Very close to Bloomfield station. Great for commuting to NYC and elsewhere in NJ. Though note that the train only comes once every two hours on weekends. * Close to Montclair and far from Newark. * Stores below the complex (same triangle block) are very nice, with the possible exception of the Tilted Kilt. * Good maintenance team Cons: * Do not rent a unit ANYWHERE near the patio. Despite management's policies and assurances, it will be noisy well past the time when the patio is closed. If a former fraternity member tells you it's too loud, it's too freaking loud. Audible noise in every room of the apartment, bass so strong that it shakes the plates, and of course smoking on a non-smoking patio. * Extremely pricey for the sub-par area. Might as well move to Montclair at this point. God knows I'm looking. No wonder there is an advertisement for OTHER apartment complexes at said NJ Transit station right across the street from this complex. P.S.: * Fellow yelp junkie who kept reading this far? We are not residents here, nor will we ever be. We scheduled an appointment for an apartment tour at 5pm (which is apparently their last tour of the day- the appointment was given by the central avalon office and given a choice he wouldn't have given a 5pm time to us- words of the guy in the leasing office).. we reached at 5.06pm, roamed around for parking-since the property is on the main road-walked from the car to the office at 5.15! The guy refused us the tour citing "NJ LAWS"- dude, we have had property tours at a later time and this wasn't the first tour of our life! Thorough disappointment since it took us an hour of driving to get here. We won't go back again and I shudder to think of the staff, management and their accessibility if their representative in the leasing office was so rude, care a damn and non courteous. P.S. Leasing office guy-a kind word and attitude goes a long way. VERY GLAD WE DIDN'T END UP LEASING HERE. ZERO stars for this place. read more

Pros -Beautiful brand new building -Easy access to trains into Hoboken & NYC -Awesome gym with bikes, treadmills, a yoga room, free weights, and some machines -Shared grills, patio, and lounge area with a pool table & TVs -In suite laundry -Friendly staff & maintenance team who are very accommodating -Grocery store, liquor store, and bars underneath the building -Cheap utilities -Packages are signed for and held in the office by the staff Cons -Very noisy with the constant buses, trains, and bar/restaurant patrons. This made it impossible to sleep with the windows opens. Not ideal if you are a light sleeper. -There is no guest parking. If anyone is visiting you they are subject to metered street parking, or the parking deck fees ($1 an hour). -Aside from whats directly under the building the shops and stores near by don't really fit the elevated vibe of Avalon (dollar stores, cheap clothing stores, smoke shops, rent-a-centers). -This is a luxury building in a non-luxury area. Not sure the rent really makes sense for the area, it's very overpriced. -It seems as if they cut corners during construction. After 4 months in our brand new apartment the soap dish fell off our shower. The finishes in the bathroom are also very cheap (toilet seat, shower rod, towel racks). -After only 8 months they raised the rent $140. -If you work late the office hours can be tough (if you need to speak to someone or pick up a package). Closed Sunday & Monday. Open until 6:30pm Tuesday-Thursday. Open until 5:30pm on Friday. Open until 5:30pm on Saturday. read more

We were residents for 2 years and had to deal with their entire incompetent back office including finance, customer service, leasing office and recovery. The first time we downgraded from a two bed room to one after one year lease and they tried so hard to steal your deposit by charging you non existing charges and things that were normal wear and tear. We made a stink and fought with them so they returned some. It was because they made us pay another new deposit for the new apartment. Now a year past forward, it was time for us to end our lease and we decided not to extend it, they again came up with fictitious charges on our final bill and instead of owing us some money, they demanded more money from us. We have been sending all the proofs and documentation where were all the charges supposed to but noone gave a damn. We contacted leasing office and they ignored the issue and tried to push it to recovery dept. now this incompetent department does not know how to do their job and threaten to send us to collection. We will fight this and bring them to court if need be so that they can't do this to the residents. We will tell everyone we know about our experience. Last words. If you are prospect residents, they will make you feel like they are responsive and professional, wait until you are moving out and forget about your deposit. read more

This place is quickly deteriorating (physically and customer service). I was away on a business trip and while away the office sent out an email stating that in 36 hours they would be throwing away any items in the hallway. Nearly every apartment has a doormat. After two years of living here, out of no where they decide to enforce some rule that had never been mentioned or warned residents of. So I come home after being away for a week at midnight to find they threw my stuff away. What is wrong with these people?!? A perfect example of how any semblance of customer service has dissipated. Very disappointed in this building. Are they going to start throwing away boxes left in the hallway by delivery service?? read more

The Avalon by station is perfect Building for leaving. If you want to live in a modern style come to Avalon Bay Station. We chose the Avalon by station because the building is simply beautiful consist of 3 building easy connection with each other. Everyone in leasing office was wonderful to deal with specifically Christine he was tremendous help, providing great recommendations and solid advice. He was always quick to respond to questions on email even if we were a year out. The staffs were polite and gracious; always ready to lend a hand. The amendment, gum center and parking are wonderful. The Avalon by station Building is a beautiful venue! Nice floor plan tremendous light and decoration. The apartment looks just perfect. I am very sure i will strongly nominee to anyone in my country want to live in New Jersey. read more

Beware Moving Into Avalon Bloomfield Station. I moved into the first building to open up June 2015. I stayed for just a year. While there, things seem to go well. A big problem was the garbage room. It was not cleaned often. Under the garbage chute wall would be streaks of other peoples garbage and other food garbage against the wall and floor. It would stay there for at least 4-6 weeks. Now, when it's time to move out, DO NOT EXPECT any of your security to be returned. They will try to find a reason to take your security away. The maintenance workers warned me after moving in that they, Avalon, use the cheapest paint so that we can't wipe the walls with just water & gentle soap (the paint will come off). The maintenance workers even gave me some paint to touch-up when I was leaving. I requested a walk-through and brought witnesses, took video and pictures and they still found reasons to not return my money. During the walk-through the management said that they apartment was very well kept. That it looked as if no one had lived there. I never walked on the carpet with shoes and had runners, carpet and mats covering their carpet so that my feet never touched their carpet. I vacuumed weekly. Thirty days later, I received a itemized letter stating they had to repaint, not a mark on those walls, and would not be returning my deposit. I just wanted to get away from Avalon. The woman handling my exit was as rude as she could be. It was as if my leaving was a personal affront to her and she was going to make me pay. read more

Out of 5 apartments I've lived in this apartment is hands-down the worst. Pros: -New units -Decent apartment layouts -Adjacent to the train station Cons: -Noise, noise, and more noise. Despite being a new apartment complex, the building was extremely poorly constructed. Many times it seems like the walls were made from tissues and spit. You can hear everything going on in adjacent units, the halls, and the common spaces. Children running around upstairs? Check. Neighbors having loud amorous relations at 1am? Check. Noise in the common area at 5am? Check. Loud people out on the street at any hour? Check. Management cares not for your troubles, but more on that later. There is really no way to block out the ambient noise. Despite assurances that noise would not be an issue, it has been a near-constant problem. -Management. Office hours for the management office are extremely limited. They open around 9:30am and close by 6:30pm, so unless you are home during the day it is extremely difficult to get a hold of them. Complaints about noise are flat-out ignored. We were told that several people on the management team live in the building and would be available via email to address concerns should they arise. Wrong. Noise concerns extending to midnight on week days and very early in the morning were not addressed. There is no one to call to complain about noise within the complex other than police. Email response is slow and never addresses underlying problems. -The outside common area, particularly near the fire pit, is littered with cigarette butts. The complex (including the outdoor area) is advertised as non-smoking but management doesn't deal with the situation at all. If none of the issues above or posted by any other reviewers are deal breakers, go for it. Personally I can't wait for my lease to end so I can leave this horrible apartment complex. read more

I have been an Avalon Bloomfield station resident for 8 months now. It was one of the best decisions I made in regards to moving here. Every apartment building, especially when new, will have their ups and downs, their growing pains, a few things here and there. But I can honestly say my experience has been more ups than downs. The feel safe here, I feel comfort here, I love the accessibility to NYC from here. There is a lot going for this large square block radius apartment building. The only thing i honestly struggle a bit with is the noises from builders of stores and restaurants below, but given that the majority of the things being built will be finished soon- a month to two months tops I'm thinking-, newcomers to the area should not be discouraged because of that. And you will be happy about all the wonderful, restaurants, supermarket/convenient stores in the vicinity. The area is bustling with convenient attractions. You will never find a better leasing, superintendent/maintenance, cleaning, and apartment fixing staff than here! The leasing staff are thoughtful, considerate of your needs as a tenant, and available and approachable concerning apartment concerns. They go above and beyond delivering packages, and have a most outstanding memories are of many of the tenants names! That to me is truly are amazing! The maintenance staff are exceptionally responsive for much needed apartment fixes, (they come within 2 hours of you making requests online). And the cleaning staff are sweet, and quick about cleaning up anything that is need whether that is spills in the trash rooms, vacuuming hallway messes, or any apartment amenities-related places. Next, the amenities are just what I need! I am an avid gym goer, not only are the gym amenities great, they are clean, and make the workout experience wonderful! Anything that needs to be fixed is done quickly and you are welcome to even use your own gym accessories (jump ropes kettle bells and steps etc) if need be. There is even a nice interactive yoga/exercise video room for your own personal use. Another two amenities that I enjoy are the game/lounge room and the outdoor patio with functional and new grill stations. The couches and chairs are comfortable and cleaned regularly and the games are all age friendly! With that all I can honestly say is I am grateful I made the decision to move and look forward to another year spent here, cheers! read more
