Review Visit: August 18th, 2014…read more Play ball! First and foremost, I am not a baseball fan. I don't dislike the game. I just find it too slow for my attention span. Now, if you put me in a situation where I am watching a game in person, then we can talk. Which is what happened on this very night. My job was giving away free Peoria Chiefs baseball tickets. I snagged some for a friend but they ended up not being able to go. So, what was I going to do with 4 free tickets to a baseball game? Why not use them myself? It did take some convincing and bugging of my friends to get them to go as none of us are sports fans. We may not be in to sports but we are in to adventures. This was my first time at Dozer Park but I had been to this stadium once or twice as a kid to watch a baseball game. I remember sitting here for a baseball game in 5th grade, I think, while wearing black shorts in the summer sun. My legs did not appreciate that one bit. Luckily there was no repeat of that as the sun was setting as the game got started. Actually, now that I am looking at the Wikipedia page, this stadium was not the same one I visited as a kid. It appears this was a new one built around 2002 (I would've been in high school at this point). I'll leave this in as a small anecdote. The baseball game was baseball-y. But the stadium itself was actually really nice. Since it was built fairly recently, everything still had an updated and modern feeling to it. There were concession stands located throughout the area where you can purchase your overpriced pretzels and waters. The only real negative I have to say about Dozer Park is the parking situation. From what I could gather, you either take a chance of parking along the street or find a parking spot somewhere else and walk to the stadium. I believe there is a small parking lot nearby but do not quote me on that as I've only ever parked along the road when I've been here. (Only other time I was here was for beerfest, so I was more a passenger, but still took notice.) Honestly, the ticket prices are cheap enough that incorporating a baseball game or two during the summer is a good way to get out and enjoy life. Who knows, maybe you'll catch a ball, win a t-shirt from a t-shirt cannon or meet the mascot.

We went up there 2x's and everyone was so nice, please and thank you's every time! The prices were average prices. Food, prices and employees were all great! Thirsty Thursday drafts were $2, just mentioning this even though my husband and I don't drink. Just noting it since I seen other comments saying how expensive everything was. We had a completely different experience! Parking was free! Concession stands and bathrooms were so close to everything. Shopping was easy and fun too! I highly recommend this place!

We chose this game specifically for the drone show. I really liked where we sat behind home plate in the MM section, row 19, seats 1-3. Choosing the aisle was perfect for moving around easily, and the seats in that section have backrests and are fully covered, which is a lifesaver on hot days or days that it rains. It was especially nice when it hit 85°F and eventually started raining during our game. The seats in the cheaper section are just bench seats. You also don't pick your seat in advance. It's a don't pick your seat in advance. It's mostly first come first serve. The seats at the very end of the horseshoe seating did not have safety nets extend to that area. So when falls flew off from the stadium, you are at a great risk of being hit by one. At our game, since there weren't very many people, the kids were out there with their baseball gloves catching all the balls that flew over. However, on a day that the stadium is full, I do not think I would choose those areas to sit. The seats in our section were OK and a lot better than other stadium seating that I've been to. Next time I plan to bring a seat cushion. Aftersitting on a hard surface for about 2.5 hours game can be a little uncomfortable. I'd also bring a personal battery fan for the heat. One thing I was least impressed by was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. We arrived early before game time and were some of the first people there and they were already disgusting. If you're like me and hate spending money on bottled water. You can bring one per person factory sealed bottle. The one I ended up buying their cost of about$4.50. Food prices have gone up overall, they do still have quite a bit of items under five dollars. Some of their hot food items that are under five dollars were hot dogs and corn dogs. One the plus side, parking was completely free and incredibly easy compared to a major league stadium. It's definitely a wonderful, fun local thing to do right here in Springfield!

The game itself was okay (though the players did have issues with the whole "giving up runs" thing). But it took two hours for the game to start due to a rain delay. Really? That long? It was about 8:45 by the time the game starts. But overall, okay. That being said, the Sliders do have a cool mascot, so yay for that! He's a turtle. I like turtles.

The length of time we spend waiting in line to purchase a drink is RIDICULOUS. Last night for Snoop Dogg I spent OVER 45 minutes in line for a beer. Unacceptable. And all the people waiting in line for a beverage creates massive congestion in the concourse.

Security has no experience and any little thing will hold up the lines for a long time. Since it's so small, it's hard to get around without bump into others and spilling drinks. The bar staff is probably the worst part. You will be waiting for 15-30 minutes in line at a bar for $20 drinks that are nothing but soda (2 oz liquor 15 oz soda), if they get that right. I ordered a vodka tonic that the bartender asked about 4 times and each time it was wrong! You are guaranteed to miss 20-30 minutes of any performance if you decide to leave to get a drink. Seat is like being on a small plane, extremely tight and narrow. If you move suddenly you are bound to hit the people next to you. If you stand up, you'll be blocking everyone. And being seated will make your knees and back cramp. The only reason they get 2 stars is due to cleanliness of the building, $15 parking and the view from our seats which is due to the size. Otherwise expect Chicago prices and attitude.

Everyone is friendly and willing to assist players, coaches, and fans with whatever they need. This is one complex that definitely put kids first. They have batting cages available for teams to use for hitting. Plus I have seen non-players taking advantage of the cages. They also have netting over some of the fields so fans do not have to worry about foul balls. They also have picnic tables, both covered and uncovered and a sheltered area near the playground where people can sit to get out of the sun. The umpires treat all players and coaches with respect and expect the same back. They know the rules and their expectations and do everything in their power to keep the games on time. The umps are also very fair and reasonable whether it be calling balls/strikes or plays on the bases. The fields are all well maintained and are playable during inclement weather. Lenz Complex has several different sized fields for the different age groups. Their fields are used for both baseball and softball. They keep water coolers in each dugout during tournaments and make sure all coolers have fresh water for the players and coaches. Lenz Field has one of the best concession stand hands down. The food is delicious and you get a lot when asking for chicken salad or bar-be-que. In fact you need a fork to eat either sandwich. Anything from their grill is top notch and again delicious. They have a variety of snacks and drinks and all are reasonably priced. The Lenz Complex is located within a mile of shopping and eating, but I would highly suggest you eat at the concession stand because as stated before the food/drinks is awesome and reasonably priced. The complex also has a hospital across the street which is good in case of an injury. Plus there is a medic on site for all tournaments. I would suggest you get your ball team signed up to play at the Lenz Complex. You won't be disappointed! I definitely give Lenz Complex 5+ stars!
