I've never worked in a more toxic environment. The students are lovely but the owners and management are abusive. To say the least.

Everything in life costs time or money and here- you pay in time. The students are new and slower than a traditional salon, but I wouldn't expect anything different. They're nervous and these are new skills for them. Every single student I have had was kind, caring, and striving to please. They regularly check in with an instructor if they are unsure of a next step and the instructors have always been polite, knowledgeable, and promptly available. Often the instructor will "fine tune" my cut at the end to fix anything they see and my cut always looks like I went to a high end salon. The prices are fair, the salon is clean and well kept. I will return time and time again. My only wish is for an online apt booking option! (Pics are all after pics over the years....)

Then apparently the stylists are allowed to flaunt their rainbows and the dress code doesn't apply. It seems the rules don't apply to everyone who works and goes to school there. That is the definition of discrimination. I don't care that there are gay people working there. I care that rules seem to be only for some and not for all. You don't get to pick and choose who gets to follow rules of the school and who doesn't.

My then 4 year old wasn't as happy because it took too long to get his hair trimmed. We probably got a less experienced student for him too. That being said, I've been getting my eyebrows waxed for years. I've been all over Anchorage in search of the perfectly arched brow. Not too thin, not too thick. I've had some places that were ok at it. Some, even great at it. However, inevitably the brow starts to become thinner and thinner, or, you get your skin waxed off of your ultra sensitive upper eye lid. (Yes, that happened to me. In Anchorage. Ouch.) That's all different now because I've FINALLY gotten an esthetician who KNOWS her stuff. Not only has this girl gotten her education at a prestigious cosmetology school in the states, but SHE is beautiful herself. Look no further than her brows to see an example of her fabulous work. Diana Dean owns Brow Luau, a cute little beach inspired brow bar located in South Anchorage a little upwards from the Dimond Center mall. No dealing with downtown parking, Diana has super flexible availability, and offers super easy booking online, one of my favorite features. The bar itself is inside Lux - a makeup/beauty/skincare boutique. It is very clean, modern, and decorated like a beach - inspired from the year Diana spent doing brows in Waikiki. This girl KNOWS her stuff. Like knows it. Look no further than my before and after pics below, done yesterday, 06/19/15 before date night with my boyfriend. Thank you for your eye for perfection, Diana.

I graduated college with a degree in IT Management and…read moredecided that software development was what I wanted to do, but struggled to get anywhere with my job search afterward. College doesn't prepare you for employment very well. I'd spend hours tailoring my resume to job postings and sending them out into the void just to get one automated rejection response after another. It became clear that I needed additional training and experience to get where I was hoping to end up. It was either a $20-70K masters' degree and another two years of being poor, or pursue various certifications that may or may not help. After considering different options, I decided to give BoiseCodeWorks a shot. They were extremely reasonably priced and have a surprisingly robust reputation in the valley. They are well respected by the companies in Boise and they, unlike BSU, go the extra mile in helping you get a job with a full week of career preparation from working industry professionals, a rep from the Idaho Dept. of Labor and others who specialize in getting people employed in the field. They provide the opportunity to do some powerful networking with heavy hitters in the valley in just a few days. The quality of the education I got from BoiseCodeWorks was phenomenal. The course is fast paced and definitely requires dedication, but the teachers are very knowledgeable and have a teaching style that makes it fun. Management gives you a voice and listens to your feedback. They also provide plenty of after-hours tutoring at no additional cost if you need help and can adjust or give additional projects to make sure you're challenged even if you're more advanced than the rest of the class. The course provides lots of hands-on training to solidify the new material. The resulting projects give you lots to talk about in interviews afterward. Lastly, they do fun activities to help you have a good time and make some lasting friends and connections. If you're looking to get into software development, especially in the Boise area, BoiseCodeWorks is the way to do it.
