I consider myself to be better than most at applying my own makeup, doing my own hair, etc., by no means am I a professional, nor am I good at doing it to other people, however, beauty and makeup is something that has always interested me and I enjoy doing. That being said, I've been getting my eyebrows waxed for years. I've been all over Anchorage in search of the perfectly arched brow. Not too thin, not too thick. I've had some places that were ok at it. Some, even great at it. However, inevitably the brow starts to become thinner and thinner, or, you get your skin waxed off of your ultra sensitive upper eye lid. (Yes, that happened to me. In Anchorage. Ouch.) That's all different now because I've FINALLY gotten an esthetician who KNOWS her stuff. Not only has this girl gotten her education at a prestigious cosmetology school in the states, but SHE is beautiful herself. Look no further than her brows to see an example of her fabulous work. Diana Dean owns Brow Luau, a cute little beach inspired brow bar located in South Anchorage a little upwards from the Dimond Center mall. No dealing with downtown parking, Diana has super flexible availability, and offers super easy booking online, one of my favorite features. First things first, GPS sends you into the residential neighborhood across the street. Lux (and Brow Luau) are on the right hand side in the shopping center if you're exiting the highway on Scooter Ave. Now, onto the review. I moved to Anchorage from California last year and I had been very apprehensive about getting my eyebrows done up here, so much so that I actually didn't get my eyebrows done until this visit to Brow Luau. I have to be threaded not waxed because I have very sensitive skin so Brow Luau was my only option since threading doesn't seem super popular in Alaska yet. It's $25 for eyebrow threading and it's by appointment only. That's about double what I normally pay for a walk-in place at home, but it is a full spa so I can see why they need an appointment. Again, didn't help my nerves thinking about how expensive it is and what not. HOWEVER, this was the most pleasant threading experience I have ever had and with the best results. Diana is the one who threaded my eyebrows. She was nice, calm, quiet, and she took her time. I felt that she was thorough (she even measured my brows for where they should start, end, and arch based on my eye/face shape!!) and very detail oriented. I wish I had come here sooner!! I was very disappointed this morning to walk into my "full face" threading appointment to find out that it does not in fact include hair removal from the entire face... it's everything except eyebrows. Definitely need to specify that on the Web site. Clearly there had been confusion about this before because as soon as I sat in the chair, she asked me if I knew that eyebrows were not included in the full face price. I moved to Anchorage at the beginning of February. I spent about an hour looking for an eyebrow place that did threading, but all places came up as waxing only. I decided to go to one place to get them waxed, but I just wasn't satisfied. I like getting them threaded way more, so I continued my search. After looking through some more places, I read the reviews on Brow Luau and realized they did threading! I went about 2 weeks ago and had just my lip done, it was a normal experience and decided I would go back at a later time to get my eyebrows done. I went back yesterday for my eyebrows and I was so impressed. Diana took her time to measure out all aspects of how the eyebrow should fall and was very precise on my eyebrows. She took her time and didn't just rush through to get them done quickly. I would highly recommend her if you're looking for a place that does eyebrow threading! read more

Having just moved to Anchorage I looked high and low for a place that does threading. Didn't have luck until I found Brow Luau using Google! And I was excited to see that they offer all kinds of face threading plus wax services. Making an appointment was very easy I simply texted Diana and we scheduled the appt. She has a room within Lux Studio and I love how cute, clean and quaint it is--its got a beachy Hawaiian feel to it. Made me feel comfortable and happy right away. Getting to the actual services, Diana really impressed me with her threading skills! I've been going to Indian aunties for years and have never had such attentive and detailed, but fast and effective, threading done before. She even measured my eyebrows so they were as symmetrical as possible! Result--eyebrows were perfectly done just like I walked out of Devon Ave in Chicago or Patel plaza in Atlanta. The waxing was great too--I got it on my legs and she even tweeted the extras and meticulously got out some in-growns. She listened exactly to what I needed and generously used great-smelling waxing lotions. Being at Brow Luau was a mini-retreat and I look forward to going back! read more

Brow Luau is by far the best place in town for a brow wax! I have been to numerous places around town and will now never never go anywhere else. Diana has a very flexible schedule that is all operated online. My favorite thing about Brow Luau (besides the killer brows) is that she offers a punch card!! How awesome is that?! Diana is an excellent esthetician. I was visiting her for 2-3 months for eyebrow threading and she does a great job. Unfortunately, during my last visit I had a bad experience. I had an appointment for threading and arrived 10 minutes sooner. The appointment prior to mine ran a 10 minutes longer (which is OK), so I waited my turn. But, Diana decided to accept a walk-in client instead of acknowledging my appointment. Not once did she even acknowledge my presence or asked if I didn't mind waiting. Once I confronted her, she did apologize. I'm not sure if I'll be going back. read more

I was a new client. She arrived late and seemed in such a rush. She did not even introduce herself to me or ask what I wanted to do with my brows. She abruptly had me sit in the chair and started waxing, she did not even clean/prep my brows (they were filled in and had clear gel on them) she just immediately started to wax them. My brows are now UNEVEN, one is thicker than the other AND one has a slight arch while the other is curved. They are also way too thin for my liking. She also was not welcoming whatsoever. Not worth $25, I should not have even paid for this terrible service. Needless to say I am very upset and hope that my brows grow back fast because they look absolutely horrible. read more
