I have tried to fly three times now with Avelo. Each flight has been significantly delayed (3+ hours) or outright cancelled due to weather (understandable) or mechanical issues (we like a fully functional plane). This review is for the absolutely abysmal and terrible customer support and online experience. There is no excuse in 2024 for a call queue of 180+ people and 220+ minutes of waiting for a phone call when my flight leaves in an hour. That is unacceptable. Each time I did get a call back (after waiting hours) and spoke with representatives, they only regurgitate the same information available on the Avelo website. So what's the point? Why hire humans to simply read the web page? Also, your mobile application is a crippled dumpster fire of a web browser. Shame on you. Whatever "app" developers you hired to create this awful mess should be thrown out a window of one of your airplanes. And I don't mean that in a harmful way, they wouldn't get hurt because all the planes I was supposed to be on are still on the ground and never took off. There is clearly not a single user experience expert on your team, and no one has done any quality control. Terrible company. I will never recommend Avelo to anyone I care about. read more

I woke up today to an email that they canceled my flights and rebooked me on flights on two different days to my initial trip. This does not work for my schedule so I tried to look for different flights and they are no longer flying on the days I need to fly. The company policy is flight credit only so be warned. It also costs $25 to speak to a customer service rep over the phone. I wrote an email but who knows what that will do. The company is a scam and I would not recommend unless you want to give them $500 for service. read more

We flew this airline for the first time last month, from Burbank to Pasco, WA. I had never heard of this airline before, but glad we were turned onto it by my son. The check in, due to having bags, went smoothly, as was the boarding procedures. A lot of people are bitching about the cost of bags, or paying a few bucks more to pick your seat. Whatthefuckever. The cost to fly to the Pasco (Tri-city) airport, including those bags and seat assignments, was HALF the price of any major airlines that were offering to get you there (with a mid-way stop to Seattle AND a 4 to 6 hour layover before bouncing you over to Pasco)! Avelo gets you there on a non-stop flight! Our only inconvenience was the 2 hour drive, to and from, to the Burbank Airport. But that has everything to do with too damn many people living in the L.A. area. We will use Avelo next time we venture up to Pasco, or maybe one of the other areas they service on the west coast for a long weekend getaway. read more

I flew on Avelo from New Haven CT to Knoxville TN during the last week of December. I paid for a checked back both ways and that made the trip about the same as it would have cost me to fly American out of Hartford. The trip to Knoxville was fine. The Avelo plane is nothing remarkable. It was clean and the seat was a regular plane seat. It did seem a bit narrower than the average plane seats, but even with a full row of three it was pretty normal. The flight crew was pleasant and helpful. The flight was smooth except for a jerking stop at landing. Trip to Knoxville was a 4 out of 5 most due to the staff. The trip home was not good. My mother decided to return with me to CT and so we got to the airport about 2 hours ahead of our original departure time of 4:58 with extra time as she walks slowly. We shouldn't have bothered. Throughout the day we received multiple texts about the flight time changing. The first one was at 6:57 am with the delay being about 1 1/2 hours. By the time we boarded I had received 6 texts about flight time changes. The only text that mentioned a reason was the first one stating "heavy fog". Well, that's crap because based on the traffic cams in the area and the friend pickign us up at the airport there was zero fog near the New Haven airport. So we waited in the airport until finally boarding at 8:30 pm. Never once in the five hours that we were at the airport did anyone from Avelo make an announcement about the delay. At one point there were twelve flights from Avelo, Allegient and Frontier scheduled to depart from the four gates near us. Frontier and Allegient staff made announcements but zero from Avelo. I did go to the desk to ask a question when someone showed up. She was from Frontier and did answer my question. The only time I saw anyone from Avelo was about 2 minutes before the boarding process began. Again both ground and flight crews were efficient and pleasant and the plane clean and relatively comfortable. The captain apologized for the delay but there was no mention of weather causing it. We were told weather, "air traffic control", the "busy season" and even a "mechanical issue" but nothing real about what was going on. None of that changes that no one was there to give us real -up-to-date and accurate information. When I got home I emailed Avelo to see when we would receive the compensation required by law for a more than 3 hour delay and I have heard nothing from them. It's been more than a week. If I ever do hear from them I'm sure they will call it a weather delay and say no compensation is needed. But really, Avelo, if you want to keep your customers happy you would do something about your miserable performance. read more

Flying round trip New Haven to Fort Myers. My departing and returning flight were both cancelled due to inclement weather - less than 2 inches of snow in February in CT. I waited a total of 6 hours on hold (3 hours each time) after receiving an easily missable cancellation text 2 days before my first flight and 1 day before my second. Both cancellations came through on Friday evenings, and there were 290+ people ahead of me in queue despite me calling right away. there is no other way to reach customer service other than phone. The first time they couldn't get me on the next flight out, so I opted for one-way refund and paid double the price to get out of LGA. On the way back, I was put on the next flight out and when I asked to be in an aisle or window seat they told me there was nothing they could do unless I paid extra for it. After that horrible experience, I sat back of the plane in a middle seat. I also asked for a refund on the additional cost of my luggage since I had to take a carry-on instead of my originally intended checked bag and they did nothing. Customer service was unfriendly and unhelpful. They don't care at all about the inconvenience or outrageous additional costs to their customers impacted by cancelled flights. They block Uber at Tweed so I had to pay double price for a Lyft home. On the way out, I heard the next flight saying they would not take off until 8+ customers gave up their seats due to weight imbalance on the plan in the rain. They were only offering travel vouchers. Never would fly Avelo again, criminal experience and not worth it. read more

I would give this airline a zero if that was a choice. Customer service hold time is 1 to 2 hours wait time. I made a reservation and cancelled within 24 hours and could not get a refund to my credit card since it was within 7 days of booking. I understand policies but they are just that, policies. By the way, i cancelled my flight due to the exorbitant check in baggage charges. They advertise low flight rates but not only the seat charge, which is fairly common, the baggage charges made the total cost exceed the competing airline. I was impressed with my $19 flight from Burbank Ca to Mesa AZ it was a smooth safe flight only $10 to check a bag up to 50lbs and we also got a snack which was a pleasant surprise. The gate agents and flight attendants were friendly. I will fly Avelo again! read more

It is spring break so the airport was PACKED but Avelo staff were very efficient and got everyone on board quickly. Flight was on time. We had booked a flight a month ago to fly to Florida for Thanksgiving for a family reunion leaving on Wednsday and coming back on Saturday. This morning I received an email and text message from Avelo saying that my flights had been canceled and that I would receive 25.00 for my trouble. Called customer service because I thought it was a scam. After 4 hours they called me back and said yes the flights were canceled and they moved it to the same times just a day later, which means we would be flying on Thanksgiving day and arrive in Florida at 6:30 that evening. So basically my trip will now have to book through another carrier and cost much more. Never again will I fly Avelo. And the customer rep could care less about the inconvenience. read more

I was so excited to have an airline going out of Lakeland to New Hampshire, so booked it right away. Before long, I got an email stating that they no longer fly into New Hampshire, so to try something else. I reluctantly found a flight out of New Haven, Ct., a three hour drive from my home in N.H. Was to leave this morning , but at 5 a.m. recieved an email that the flight had been changed to 9:30 p.m. getting us there after midnight (would have to wait until 8 a.m. in airport to get a car) both in 80's, to drive 3 hours after all that would never do. Disappointed, we called to cancel, and got this "refund" is a credit . since this is their second time to change things, and has cost us a lot on the rental we had already paid for, I asked to receive a full refund to my credit card. Not going to happen. I will not fly this airline, if this is how they do business. At our ages, we don't need this stress, but we sure need our money back. This is to address a significant issue experienced by myself and the 17 passengers who were left behind on Flight 745. I had a booking with Avelo (confirmation 8J967D) for a flight on May 22nd, 2023. My girlfriend and I were prepared to leave our home well in advance of the scheduled departure time when we received an email informing us of a 30-minute delay. Subsequently, we received several more emails indicating further delays, a total of eight times. Unfortunately, none of these emails provided any information or alerts regarding the closure time of the TSA checkpoint. We arrived on time at the airport for our rescheduled flight at 11:45 pm. To my surprise, there was no one present at the Avelo front desk at all. An airport employee approached us and informed us that we had missed our flight because the TSA checkpoint was closed, despite there still being ample time remaining. He stated that the TSA had closed at 9:30 pm, even though there was another flight scheduled for departure. Besides, on the CHO airport, it is clearly states that "The daily closing time is dependent on the airline schedule and delays". More passengers arrived subsequently, with some needing to check in their luggage. However, there was still no one available at the front desk to assist them. After waiting in line for 25 minutes, I managed to reach an Avelo customer service agent over the phone. The lady I spoke with was courteous and assured me that I would be compensated not only for my flight but also for the hotel and any other costs incurred as a result of this incident. She requested that I send my receipts, and I am certain that the conversation was recorded, providing further details. Unfortunately, she informed me that there was no alternative way for us to be accommodated on another flight. Additionally, one of the other passengers was disconnected when she attempted to explain the situation to customer support. To reiterate, a total of 17 passengers were left behind despite arriving at the airport on time. I made an attempt to contact them, but unfortunately, they changed their words. They simply resorted to using a generic template without addressing any of my specific concerns. It appears that they have a tendency to evade taking responsibility and often attribute the issues to external factors rather than acknowledging and addressing their own problems. In some cases, they even go as far as abruptly ending phone calls, as if it is a common occurrence for them. read more

First impression is everything and Avelo Airlines has definitely dropped the ball on impressions. My sister arrived to the airport at 4:10 in the morning for her 9:45 morning flight and when she got to the gate, they closed the door saying the flight is full. They told her that the next available flight will be on Friday, Nov 29 and now my sister has to miss Thanksgiving. Since, I have to leave a star, I rate this Airline with 1 star. I have been an Avelo customer for several years, and before this incident, had no problems. After this, I will NEVER fly Avelo again--I'd rather spend 2 or 3 times as much, drive, or stay home. I volunteered at Avelo's request to deplane and reschedule from Flight 111, Burbank to Medford OR 9/05/24, along with about 12 other nervous passengers, following multiple delays of over 4 hours and earlier deplaning of all passengers, allegedly due to mechanical/engine problems. Our contact info was taken at the boarding lecturn at which time we were promised $1000 Avelo credit plus the opportunity to request reimbursement for any extra expenses incurred by rescheduling our flights. The very nice Avelo employee told us to contact customer service if the concession didn't show on our account within a day or two. We noted a concerned look on her face. I now know why. I waited patiently for several days and finally called CS and spent 40 minutes with an agent (much of it on hold) who told me her supervisor would call me back since she had no access to the volunteer list from that flight. Of course no one ever called me back, so I went online and filled out the form with all my details. Again, no response for days and no Avelo credit on my account. So I put in another form, this time as a complaint. Several days later I received an email from someone named Audrey from the customer service team, saying that my request is declined because my name is not on the volunteer list. WHAT!!?? I replied with "Do you mean to tell me that you can't check your records to see that I generously, at great inconvenience and over $300 extra expense, volunteered to leave Flight 111 and rescheduled, boarded, and was indeed a passenger on Flight 115 the next morning to Eugene?" Sir, this cannot be incompetence, can it? If so, everyone should be too nervous to fly Avelo. I respectfully submit that rather than incompetence, this is flat out DISHONESTY. I am 72 years old and stayed all night sitting up in Burbank AP by myself to catch the next flight to Oregon departing at 7am next morning to an airport that is 350 RT miles from my original destination to Medford! Hence my request for at least $300 for the extra travel miles and the super expensive airport food. I had to do that since the next flight to Medford was 3 days later which would have necessitated another car rental and 3 expensive hotel nights, plus meals. I responded to that email (which I'm happy to send you a copy of) by pointing out that Burbank AP Security has my name on file as staying overnight (very uncomfortable, I might add!). No reply, again. As of this date, 10/16/24, I have written multiple times not only to Customer Svc but also to the CEO Andrew Levy and other officials of the company. No reply in most cases, and total BS from Customer Svc who have all but accused ME of scamming/lying, which is precisely what they are doing. Would offer 0 stars if I could. I booked a flight from Wilmington, De to Fort Meyers Florida several weeks ago online with Avelo directly. At the time of booking, I received my confirmation number along with them presenting the last four digits of my credit card as the acknowledgement for payment. You'd think I was all set to go.....WRONG!!! I went online today to see what their carryon policy was. To my surprise, it showed my trip was cancelled. However, it was just my 2 tickets. We went to Customer service and they told us there was nothing they could do. We emphasized that we had a confirmation number and a message from them stating "You're All Booked". Oh and get this.....Customer service charges a $25 fee if there is a task that you could do online (and they do it for you). What a matchstick and bubblegum airline. Let's start off by saying that if I could give this airline ZERO STARS, I would. My husband and I were flying from Santa Rosa to Las Vegas for a quick 2 night trip. Avelo is one of those airlines where you have to pay for every bag your bring, your seat...even practically to use the bathroom. When I went to check in on the App 24 hours in advance, the reservation did not have any way for your to check and see what you had already paid for. I knew we already had seats because my husband insists I always book a guaranteed seat or get priority boarding if we fly on Southwest. I did not have my original purchase info handy. That is where the wheels fell off the bus. Since I didn't know if I had paid for any bags, I kind of panicked. If you wait to get to the airport you have to pay even MORE to fly with your bags. So in my own haste, I purchased two Carry On Bags BOTH ways to the tune of $240. I figured we could get a refund if I wound up already purchasing the bags. Shortly thereafter, I located my original purchase info and found out that I already purchased one CHECKED BAG for us. Which I then recalled; since we were only going for two nights, that would be fine for us to pack in one bag and bring a small personal item (which is free to bring). I IMMEDIATELY phoned Avelo and spoke to an agent, who was barely even paying attention to what I was trying to explain. I had literally JUST MADE THE PURCHASE and we were flying out the next day. GIVE ME REFUND as I already have the bag situation COVERED! The rude agent then proceeded to tell me that I wouldn't be able to get a refund, that I would only get a "credit"...I MADE THE PURCHASE LIKE FIVE MINUTES AGO IN ERROR LADY!!! She then told me that since it had just happened, she was unable to even give me credit and that the Agent when we checked would have to do it for me. Guess what happened when we went to check in. I explained everything to the Agent, Kaia, as we checked the bag we had paid for when we booked the flight and she could se that we had NO CARRY ON BAGS. She said she didn't think that she could issue us the credit and she had to make a call to her people to see how we could go about doing that. We had to step aside. She then came back to us in about 5 minutes and gave me the Customer service Card for Avelo and said that the Customer Service People would need to issue us a credit. I asked her, "are you going to make sure that they know we DID NOT FLY WITH ANY CARRY ON BAGS?!" She assured me that she would and all would be fine. Even when we flew home from Vegas, I let the woman checking us in know that we had to call Customer Service to get a credit as we were not flying with Carry On Bags and all along I have been assured that we would get a credit SINCE WE CLEARLY DID NOT HAVE CARRY ON BAGS! Well, you guessed it, when I got home, I phoned Avelo Customer Service as I was told to do, and the ALSO seemingly uninterested agent had to put me on hold to "check their notes" to verify that we didn't have checked bags. LOOK LADY...I don't make it a habit of buying Carry On bags and then secretly bring them in the hopes I can scam your loser airline and get a credit. I have a life and I pay my taxes. I was then told that since she couldn't verify it that I had to email the finance department people and they would review it for a credit. I got a reply back that THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE CARRY ON BAGS WERE BROUGHT ON BOARD. WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! Am I living in the Twilight Zone?! How did they "verify" this?!? THEY ARE LIARS AND THIEVES!! A lesson has certainly been learned here - at the price of $240. NEVER EVER FLY AVELO AIRLINES. They are criminals and run the worst Customer Service operation in the airline industry. I have filed a formal complain with the DOT and I will also be going down to the local Santa Rosa Airport to speak with whoever is in charge there to make one last attempt at getting the credit - which now I will never use - it's the principle of the matter at this point. Delayed my flight twice then canceled completely I paid upfront and have called twice no call back and no refund as of yet.

I haven't even traveled with them yet but already I hope to avoid them in the future! There was a great sale to Oregon from Burbank so I bought 2 separate roundtrips impulsively figuring I'll look into hotels and all that within 24 hours since all American airlines have to offer you a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of booking. Anyway I looked into hotels for one of my tickets and naturally the rates were extremely expensive so I wanted to cancel. I go to the website to cancel online. You do not have an option to get a full refund to your credit card online...If you cancel online you only get Avelo points. When I saw that I figured fine, I'll just take the credit and hope they don't go out of business. It wasn't until AFTER I clicked confirmed that they then said you have up to a year to use the credit. They should have said that before I confirmed!!! Total bait and switch. Why on Earth would I buy a credit that expires within a year when I could have gotten a full refund to my credit card? I now have been on hold with them via phone for over 20 minutes. They have a recording that says to press 2 to get a callback but it says no call backs are available!!! I already figure I have to chalk up the fact that I bought a credit that expires. I still have the other roundtrip ticket and now want to cancel that one too due to spite. I think though they charge you $20 to cancel over the phone even though again canceling for a full refund isn't an option online! I have never seen an airline do so much shady crap as Avelo. I'm amazed their lawyers said there was nothing wrong with the info they put out. UPDATE: I emailed the CEO and every email address I could find lol. I got a call from someone at corporate who said the CEO told him to call me. They are giving me 2 refunds and apologized for the phone que and blah blah blah. He was pleasant enough. Will watch my credit card statement. I still cannot say that I would want to travel with them though because they don't have their procedures in place especially since you cannot get a refund online an have to call and hope you can get a call back. It just seems odd that a new company is really out of date with what other airlines do. read more

It was awful at every turn. The employees were not well trained or very nice. The boarding process was disorganized and frustrating. The app crashed when I was getting my boarding pass and I had to call customer service to be able to print the document. The communication in the terminal was terrible. There is no internet onboard. I love how this airlines has no cancellations. It's right on time every time and the people are amazing who work on the airline and for the airline. However, I do have an issue with these people bringing full size suitcases on the plane and treating them as if they are carry on items. I'm in seat 2D and I've been smacked in the head with heavy heavy personal items. I think they need to be stricter as to what a carry-on means. From Burbank to Bozeman, MT and Burbank to Eugene, OR for example. Just because he's never been to those places and the prices were good. Pros: cheap flight, lots of discounts, in Burbank, CA., will pay for Hotel if flight gets canceled(but no food vouchers or other compensation). Cons: often gets delayed. My flight got canceled and they automatically booked us for the next one (they only have flights Sun, Tues, and Thurs). Because I couldn't fly on the next trip, I had to call their customer service to reschedule/cancel and it took hours waiting on the line. They're very hard to reach. read more

I didn't want to believe the reviews as they flew out of a local airport and I felt the convenience would be worth it and how could they mess up a direct flight. Well here were the isssues: 1. We flew with an infant and paid extra to have front row seats. On both our departure and return flight, when I went to check in they moved my 9 month old son back 4 rows. I had to spend 45 min on hold the first time to get him moved and the second time the woman claimed she couldn't do it over the phone..: still on hold 2. You can't get ahold of anyone, ever- this is very problematic as their app and website are decades behind on functionality and almost useless 3. They lost our bags, on a direct flight. Apparently they just "forgot" to offload half the bags", how The actual f*** does that even happen. And once again, couldn't get ahold of anyone, airport couldn't either as half the flight was waiting for their bags. I sent them an email with the issue on January 30th received and automated response saying a crew member would get back to me, that never happened/ I just tried again today February 8th and still not working. I tried 3 times put all of the information in and when it was time to pay it went back to the home page. I called and got no where with customer service.
