My p/u was arranged by an actual telephone call with an actual person who was courteous and…read morecompetent. The p/u was on time and the route made sense.,The driver/trainer had a student on board and they seemed to have a good working relationship. Forget uberlyft bs. "Here, taxi."

Dealing with the dispatch person and the cab showing up were fine. The driver was also okay except…read morehe only put on his seatbelt when we were passing a LEO in a school zone and only signaled turns half of the time. The very bad parts were the price and the cab, itself. The dispatcher told me there was a $35.50 minimum price, which is ridiculous. But I was desperate and didn't have Internet access so I could use Uber or Lyft, which I did on my first ride of the day, from my home to a medical appointment for less than $15.00. It was only 6.8 miles! The $25+ difference in the rides was outrageous! What upset me more was how disgustingly filthy the car was. There were suspicious stains all over the seats and the headliner. I could just imagine someone projectile vomiting from the seats to the headliner. Then the door was also extremely dirty! The car was smelly (you could smell old cigarette smoke) and the A/C didn't work...at least not in the hellish back seat. I asked the driver if he could make it cooler but, I guess, he couldn't. When I got home, I took off my clothes and told my daughter to burn them. And then I wiped myself down with Lysol disinfectant wipes. I honestly felt subhuman sitting in that nasty car. I will NEVER use Checker Cab of Lakeland, again. NEVER!

The Ledger is the only newspaper in Lakeland-Winter Haven so you're stuck if you want to read a…read moredaily paper. They have some excellent reporters & photographers. They do a decent job on their "do gooder" stories and have sponsored some excellent causes. They are doing better at featuring the east side of the district. They take up a lot of space for giant photos. Sometimes ads seem to make up more of the paper than the news. Business is hidden in the back of the sports section. Sadly, they are biased in general due to decisions 'at the top'. They lead "left" politically. They favor certain organizations and shun others. They make it a personal mission to put the local police and city commissioners in a bad light to stir up "news". They used to have a fabulous food critic regular piece-long gone. They have a section called "Insider" where they give tidbits of new businesses in the area but they reflect few when there are many--someone isn't thorough in their homework! Their online Ledger is pitiful probably the worst online "read" I know. You pay for it if not a newspaper print subscriber. It's so full of ads that shift the page or send you to another page in the middle of scrolling, it's hard to stay on and read an article. The scroll bar fades in and out rendering it useless half the time. It is often not up to date nor complete compared with the newsprint version. Reading obituaries on line is ridiculously complicated. The program also times out frequently. Wondering if they have ANY happy online subscribers. Online deserves ZERO stars. $85 for 3 months daily delivery is outrageous!

Nothing. Subscription cost $1 first month then $35/mo for…read moredelivery Sunday and Wednesday. That is not what I am being billed. I have ez pay and am charged $51.12 up to $56.12. When I called to ask why I am billed so much I am told that $48 is the fee for the paper. They had no reason they charge more than subscription rate on website.

Rent-A Wreck

The absolute worst rental car experience I've ever had…read more I arrived at the airport and shortly after realized their shuttles do not actually go to their location. According to the Expedia description, you're supposed to call them for pickup. Sounds simple enough, right? I called their number ten times in a row -- no answer. After getting nowhere, I gave up and paid for an Uber to their location, which is about 4 miles from the airport. When I walked into the office, it was a complete ghost town. I waited about five minutes before someone finally came to the front -- and they had a smug, unprofessional attitude from the start. My rental was already prepaid through Expedia, but then I was told I needed to pay nearly $700 just for insurance for four days. I have Progressive insurance, I'm in my 40s with a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and major credit cards -- and somehow that still wasn't enough. Between the lack of shuttle service, no one answering the phone, the surprise insurance charges, and the terrible customer service, this was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had with any company -- especially in Florida. I would absolutely not recommend renting from here.

I would strongly recommend avoiding this rental location…read more I booked a rental through Expedia with Rent-A-Wreck based on the advertised price. When I arrived, I discovered the rental was actually being handled by APM Rentals. Instead of paying the remaining balance I was expecting, I was presented with numerous additional fees that were never disclosed during booking. I also paid for the unlimited toll package and a $500 security deposit. We returned the vehicle exactly as required, on time, with a full tank of gas, clean, and without any damage. We even took photos of the vehicle before returning it. A few days later, our $500 security deposit was released, confirming there were no issues with the vehicle. Then, six days after returning the car, APM Rentals charged my credit card an additional $467.15 without any explanation. I immediately contacted the company and was told no one could explain the charge over the phone. I was instructed to communicate by email instead. Despite multiple written requests, I have not received an explanation, an itemized invoice, or any documentation showing why I was charged. The most concerning part of this experience was not just the unexpected fees at pickup. It was being charged hundreds of dollars after the rental was complete with no explanation and no response from the company. If you choose to rent here, read every document carefully, take photos of everything, monitor your credit card after you return the vehicle, and keep copies of all your paperwork. Based on my experience, I would not rent from this location again.
